Despite my concern the company planted many plants, very few of them perennials, in August. Now the front yard looked worse than it did when I first called them. The plants died, despite money spent with them to keep the irrigation system in good working order. I complained and was told everything needed the winter and following spring to burst forth into the beautiful yard promised. It should have burst forth last spring and summer, 2013 - it didn't, and it continued to look worse and our relationship continued to deteriorate. Calls were not returned, promises we're made but not kept, plant material was not replaced and the yard looked terrible. I told the crew, who were still employed to mow-blow-go our lawn, as well as fertilize when necessary, that the designer was no longer welcome on our property. In March of this year, 2014, I called another service to get the plant material I needed, and I planted the garden with a friend. It was a huge and frustrating task, to say the least, because I'd already spent so much money and so many conversations with LandArtisans. After many calls I was finally able to get a meeting at my home - at that time I was getting the yard ready for a wedding to take place here on May 3. I spent $1800 on the new plant material mentioned above and was eager to have mulch spread around it. I was about to be away for a week and wanted to ensure the plants would survive. Finally i was able to get a meeting at my house with two members of the LandArtisan team, including Ryan Owens, one of the owners. I expressed again my frustration and said I felt like I got about $8000 worth of work/materials for the $11,000 I'd paid them. I suggested they do $2000 worth of work for me without a charge and we'd go on with them doing the lawn but nothing else. The owner agreed with me and said he and another fellow would be over on the weekend I was leaving town to deliver and spread mulch. He did not do this. He's replied to none of my calls or texts. I've since spent $600 on mulch, schlepped it here in three trips from a local supplier with the help of a friend and his trailer, & paid $200 to a local teenager to help deliver and spread it. The lawn care crew split off into a separate company as of May 1 - or so says a letter I received from LandArtisans in late April. I may keep the lawn crew on because they are nice folks and, despite their association withLandArtisans, I think they're honest and will do the work we agree they'll do for the money I pay them. This is on a wait-and-see basis. Under no circumstances will I ever do business with LandArtisans, and not only will I fail to give them a positive recommendation I will vigorously discourage anyone I know who is considering doing business with them. The straight-up business deal gone awry with LandArtisans was really unpleasant for all the business and financial and timing reasons mentioned above, but added to that is my feeling like I have been duped, taken for a fool. My niece also feels badly about this because her friend was married to one of the principals and she encouraged me to use their service, hopeful of sending work their way when they were just starting out.
