The "handyman", David, scarred the deck by using too much pressure and no cleaning solvent. His words: "My 800 psi pressure washer will knock the dirt off any deck". When I asked the "boss", Lowell about the heavily scarred areas of wood, he replied that the sealer would even out the scarred areas and everything would look fine once the sealer was applied. David pressure cleaned the deck (using our water) 10 days before he sealed it, claiming the deck needed that much time to dry before the sealer was applied. I bought Olympia 2 Year Sealer, at $140 for 5 gallons. When I arrived to inspect the progress of the job, David had used 5 gallons of sealer on 10 feet of 4 foot tall shadow box fence (leaving puddles of sealer in the driveway and streaking the fencing) and sealed bird dung on the benches and deck, which fell in the 10 days between cleaning and sealing. "It's not my job to clean bird dung" was his response to my perturbed questioning of his lack of professional care for the deck. 2 years ago, we had the same deck washed and sealed and that crew used 5 gallons of the same sealer for the entire deck. They also did the job in 2 days, allowing 1 day for the deck to dry. David used 5 gallons to seal the fencing, 2 benches and maybe 20 square feet of decking. I fired him on the spot. This man is clueless about the cleaning and sealing of a deck and tries to work the job in between 3 or 4 other "jobs" he does to pay the bills. That explained the 10 day waiting period between cleaning and sealing. Lowell was recommended to me by his insurance agent and the insurance agent will be getting a call and claim from me. "Your Handyman" is a poor choice for deck cleaning and sealing, from my experience.
Description of Work: Lowell sent a relative/sub-contractor to estimate the pressure wash and seal job for our deck.
