until now. This place was highly recommended to me by other quilters,
but I had nothing but a negative experience with them. I can't believe
all the A ratings because my experience was nothing but an F. Ten years
ago, I bought a sewing machine for my daughter who was in elementary
school and just learning to sew. I bought a used Janome for $400 for her from
this store. It worked okay, then developed problems after a week. I
took the machine back and they "fixed" it. Same problem and went back
twice more. After the third time the machine broke, I said "forget it!"
and just trashed the machine. Of course, my husband was very angry
that I spent that much money on a machine that didn't work. And my poor
daughter was so discouraged. I think because they saw that the machine
was just for a little kid, they sold me a lemon. That was VERY mean of them!
Now I am a loyal
Bernina customer and am a client at another sewing machine dealer.
Really thorough driving directions! It's hard to find the store with just a GPS, but I was given specific landmarks to look for.
When I picked it up, he'd replaced my foot pedal and described a problem that I'd been having. The problem isn't fully resolved, but it's not a big deal: the machine is old (1970's, at least), and it just needs an extra nudge to get going. It would have been nice to know about the new pedal (and extra ~$25) when I called to confirm that it was ready, but it's better than buying a brand new machine (and the new pedal is more user-friendly than the old one).
Overall, though, I'd go back if I have issues with my machine or for maintenance. I asked for a recommendation for how often to get it cleaned and was told about every 1-2yrs depending on frequency of use. I feel like I could ask much more complex questions or bring troubleshooting issues here if I needed to.
Tony fixed the machine in her apartment. Not only was the repair expertly done (including Tony vacuuming up the debris from the carpet after he finished the work), but my mother RAVED about his knowledge, warmth and friendliness--he couldn't have been nicer. (Clearly, he has excellent people skills and apparently knows how to talk with older customers.) The sewing machine now runs like it's brand-new, as Tony said it would--my mother can't get over it. He charged her only for the house call, which was $78.50 (he had initially said on the phone that if the gears were indeed broken, it might cost $300 to replace them).
My mother--who had been worried about what she feared would turn out to be an expensive ordeal--was incredibly relieved. She was so thrilled with the service and "customer experience" Tony provided that she asked him to send her business cards so she could distribute them to other friends and neighbors in her community who have sewing machines!
Talk about a perfect transaction!
