Our sewing machine was old and jammed. Some years ago, we took it to a repair place in Raleigh, but this time I thought I would look for someone more local. We found Tony's Sewing Machine Repair on Angie's List. He is located just outside Clayton, and he makes house calls! Since our machine is a console type, this was a big plus for us. We called and he came to our house the next day. He did a through job of repairing and cleaning the machine and even gave us some lessons on setting it up. His price was more than reasonable, especially considering he came to us. Great guy that does great work at a reasonable price.

It needed to be cleaned out and they cleaned it out. It is in great working order and works like a charm. It was really reasonable and was done when they said it was going to be done. I recalled them being relatively quick and on time.

I have been meaning to write this review for a LONG time but forgot
until now.  This place was highly recommended to me by other quilters,
but I had nothing but a negative experience with them.  I can't believe
all the A ratings because my experience was nothing but an F.  Ten years
ago, I bought a sewing machine for my daughter who was in elementary
school and just learning to sew.  I bought a used Janome for $400 for her from
this store.  It worked okay, then developed problems after a week.  I
took the machine back and they "fixed" it.  Same problem and went back
twice more.  After the third time the machine broke, I said "forget it!"
and just trashed the machine.  Of course, my husband was very angry
that I spent that much money on a machine that didn't work.  And my poor
daughter was so discouraged.  I think because they saw that the machine
was just for a little kid, they sold me a lemon.  That was VERY mean of them!
Now I am a loyal
Bernina customer and am a client at another sewing machine dealer.

Turnaround was 1 week, ready when promised (I called to confirm before driving there). Friendly service; seemed very familiar with a variety of new and old sewing machines (granted, I don't know much about them). He checked the machine's functionality before I left.
Really thorough driving directions! It's hard to find the store with just a GPS, but I was given specific landmarks to look for.
When I picked it up, he'd replaced my foot pedal and described a problem that I'd been having. The problem isn't fully resolved, but it's not a big deal: the machine is old (1970's, at least), and it just needs an extra nudge to get going. It would have been nice to know about the new pedal (and extra ~$25) when I called to confirm that it was ready, but it's better than buying a brand new machine (and the new pedal is more user-friendly than the old one).
Overall, though, I'd go back if I have issues with my machine or for maintenance. I asked for a recommendation for how often to get it cleaned and was told about every 1-2yrs depending on frequency of use. I feel like I could ask much more complex questions or bring troubleshooting issues here if I needed to.

I took my machine to Tony based on the outstanding reviews on Angie's list.  He certainly did not disappoint.  My sewing machine is 50 years old and recently seemed to be having a bit of reluctance going.  I figured best to have it checked out by someone who knew what it needed.  I  took the machine in on Saturday and was told  I could pick it up the following Saturday.  When I went to pick it up, I was told there was no charge.  I was floored!!!  Tony said he could not repair it to his standards (meaning all the fancy stitches it was supposed to do), so therefore, there was no charge.  It still stitches straight and zig zag just fine, which is all I really need.  He cleaned, oiled and replaced a rubber bobbin winder but still did not accept payment because it was not up to his standards -- they are certainly very high.  He did not try to sell me another machine either.  If I ever buy another sewing machine, it will certainly be at his recommendation.  I can't say enough nice things about this business.  It was certainly worth the "road trip" from Montgomery County to Fairfax. I highly recommend this honest and reliable businessman.

The provider knew exactly the problem I was describing (he actually finished my sentence while describing it to him). He assured me that it only required an adjustment to a part. I picked up my sewing machine (Viking 400 Computer) a week later and it was ready as promised. Machine works great...like new. I would take it in again for cleanings in a heartbeat.

Tony is a really nice and knowledgeable guy, and doesn't patronize you if you don't know much about sewing or sewing machines.

Fairfax sewing Machine serviced a vintage Singer Featherweight 221 sewing machine for me. Their price was reasonable, it works like a charm, and they gave me tips on keeping it running well. The store is clean, modern, well stocked and a pleasant environment. They also sell high end sewing and embroidery ,machines.

Economical and fast service, considering the need to order parts that are no longer being manufactured. The machine works like it did for grandma. The repair still cost less than a new machine and this Singer is now a generational working heirloom.

Owner knew exactly what the problem was.   I was given the cost to repair when I brought the machine in; service also included a cleaning.  Picked up machine a week later.  Accepts cash or cheack as payment, no credit card ,which was fine with me.  Machine works great.

My elderly mother called Tony Whitmore to take a look at her beloved sewing machine from the '60s, which was inoperable. (FSC appears to be one of the few such businesses in this field that does house calls.) He arrived at her retirement community at the appointed day and time to take a look at the machine. It turned out that what she thought were "jammed" (and possibly broken) gears was actually just decades of grime clogging the works.
Tony fixed the machine in her apartment. Not only was the repair expertly done (including Tony vacuuming up the debris from the carpet after he finished the work), but my mother RAVED about his knowledge, warmth and friendliness--he couldn't have been nicer. (Clearly, he has excellent people skills and apparently knows how to talk with older customers.) The sewing machine now runs like it's brand-new, as Tony said it would--my mother can't get over it. He charged her only for the house call, which was $78.50 (he had initially said on the phone that if the gears were indeed broken, it might cost $300 to replace them).
My mother--who had been worried about what she feared would turn out to be an expensive ordeal--was incredibly relieved. She was so thrilled with the service and "customer experience" Tony provided that she asked him to send her business cards so she could distribute them to other friends and neighbors in her community who have sewing machines!
Talk about a perfect transaction!

The owner called within 2 days with a quote and described what needed to be done and said it would be ready for pickup one day after I gave him the go ahead. It was ready on time, at the quoted price and he even carried the machine to my car.

The machine works better than when I first bought it! The cost was exactly what he said it would be and the machine was ready when he said it would be. I am very pleased.

After consulting Angie's List for possible sewing machine repair shops, I took a 60-year-old Pfaff to Fairfax Sewing Center for assessment.  It had been inherited many years ago and left gathering dust on the assumption that it was antiquated and irreparable.  To my surprise, the owner was very familiar with the model.  He told me the likely causes of its operating problems, and warned me of the consequences if certain parts -- no longer available -- were worn out.  He promised completion of the restoration in a week; he called later and asked for more time, and then finished it in just one extra day.  I appreciated his honesty, his craftsmanship, and his deportment.  I would highly recommend Fairfax Sewing Center, even though, as another rater commented, it is hard to find.  Most fine gems are.

When asked what he would recommend, he answered that it would not be worth the $200. So he lost the immediate repair job, but he will get my future business ... my wife and daughter both have machines that need tune-ups.  After talking with him he has earned both my trust and confidence.
