As we are transplants from California we truly had no idea of mechanics reps in the area. I definitely didn't want to take it to the Mazda dealer as I knew that would cost my son's college fund.
So I jumped on trusty Angie's List and came across Woody's. I call them and they acted as if crazy 40 year old women call crying hysterically all of the time! They said they were sure it was fine to drive (I was coming from Rock Hill.) But the thought of breaking down on the 77 with an 8 year old quickly nixed that! So I called AAA and had it towed on over to Woody's.
Now comes the fun part. They receive the car and I call to give Woody's heads up that crazy chicks car is the Mazda on the flatbed. They tell me they will call once they have a diagnosis. So now I wait on pins and needles waiting for the update of doom. I figure I am in for a LONG wait. I mean, I did just have my car towed with little heads up and just ASSUMED that they would fit me in!
Less then an hour later I get the call. IT IS NOT THE HEAD GASKET!!!! Break out the wine and the happy dance!!!!! A valve gasket cover, oil pan gasket, new battery and a few other odds and ends. He said they checked it from stem to stern and it is in great shape!!!! Not only that - but they had it finished by THE END OF THE DAY!!!!!
To say these guys are rock stars is an understatement. They could have told me the cars prostate was bad and I wouldn't have questioned them because I have no clue about cars. And they knew it. Instead, they treated me like I assume they would like their spouses treated by a professional.
On another note, my husband is furious because this was his car and he has been wanting a new one for the past year or two. Now we know we should get another 50 - 60,000 miles out of it!!!! Whoo hoo! So I traded my van for a CPO Lexus and he can drive his Mazda - fair, right?
"Thank you so much for your patronage and your review, please let us know if we can do anything else to help."
They are located in an old car dealership and I think they moved there recently from another location, because their office, waiting area, and bathroom are super clean and everything in them looks brand new. Their spacious waiting area had plenty of different magazines, that day's newspaper, a big TV with remote, lots of chairs, and I think I remember some toys on one side. There was free coffee, soda, and snacks--a great idea since there aren't any restaurants or stores within walking distance. With all these amenities, I was happy to wait. It only took about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes, longer than some places advertise, but totally reasonable.
The oil change cost about twice as much as the discount chains charge, but they were very professional and thorough, checking various other things along with the oil change. They seemed very straightforward in explaining that I need new power steering and transmission fluid soon, but my car wasn't in mortal danger if I didn't do it that day. I appreciated that they gave me enough information to decide how much work to do right then.
Overall everything went smoothly and my experience was excellent.
