I had an awesome experience working with SHS from start to finish. I met with Shawn K. to explain the job and review my requirements. He took the time to answer all of my questions and didn't make me feel rushed, acknowledging that this is a purchase that most people make once in a lifetime. Shawn was punctual, professional, and came prepared with information on licensing, insurance and references. Shawn listened carefully to everything that I requested, took notes along the way, made some good recommendations and generated a complete and thorough proposal during the same visit. I questioned Shawn thoroughly about his team, their experience and how they managed their work on-site. He took the time to explain his team structure which includes a project manager, team leader and team members. Shawn's description matched my experience with his team on-site. The SHS crew showed up on time and ready to work. They were extremely organized and it was immediately obvious the team was experienced and knew what they were doing. No wasted effort. They worked together like a fine-tuned watch. Great team synergy. As a professional project manager I appreciated the organization. On occassion I observed the work from my window and could see Elvis (the team leader) actively delegating work and checking quality of the work. The project manager (Rob) was on-site at key points during the installation and made himself available to answer any of my questions. Rob was also on-site to perform the final walkthrough of the completed job. Ultimately, the roof was installed expertly and efficiently. The job was completed in less than a day and my yard looked like nobody had been there when the team was done. My neighbors have commented on how good the roof looks. During my final walkthrough with Rob (project manager) I identified one minor issue. A rain diverter that was installed on the old roof was removed but not re-installed /replaced with the new roof. When I pointed this out to Rob, he arranged for someone to come to the house and replace the diverter. I would not hesitate using SHS for roofing work in the future and would not hesitate to recommed them to others. I was highly satisfied with the entire process and with the end result.

Owner suggested that we eleminate the dormers rather than repair them. They showed up at 8am, removed the roof and dormers and replaced the roof. They were gone by 3pm. We were very pleased with the work and they way it was completed. They did damage the gutters with thier ladders, but had the damage repaired. One worker also stepped through the bathroom cieling and they had that repaired to our satisfaction within the next week. We were highly satisfied with the work and would use them again.

WOW, AMAZING, BEST SERVICE IN CHARLOTTE: Hopefully that grabbed your attention if you are even considering replacing your roof. When we decided to replace our roof, our journey began with contacting several vendors. Several came to the house to conduct an analysis but SHAWN was the only contractor that came prepared. He provided us with a binder that showed all his credentials/references and recent rewards the company had received (which is a lot). Then he provided us with roof samples. Keep in mind this was his first visit. After conducting our research, there was NO question who we would use. Having challenges with our insurance company, Shawn continued to work with us and our insurance adjuster. He was very professional and knowledgable (which I can same the same for my insurance company). While I kept getting frustrated, Shawn remained calm and helped resolve our issue. On June 14th we had our roof replaced, the roofing team was on time and very professional. I was working from home that day and when I would go outside they ensure my safety was top priority at all times. During this time, Rob - the project manager did an exceptional job to make sure our needs were met and communicated exactly what was going to happen and when. Everyone was unbelievably professional and courteous. The roof was completed in the time estimated and looks AMAZING. The next day our lawn service arrived and was surprised that he didn't find one nail in the yard. The team did a great job at the clean up as well. On Thursday evening my husband and I noticed that our airconditioning unit wasn't working. While we thought this was a coincidence, we proceeded to call an HVAC person. It turns out that during the roof replacement the copper wiring for the unit was pierced. To make matters worse, it was in a location that the repair person couldn't physically get to from the attic. Before we made any repairs I immediately called Shawn, by this time it was Friday night. He was sincerely concerned as it was going to be a hot weekend and told us to do whatever it took to get the airconditioning fixed and he would cover the necessary expense. On Saturday we had another HVAC company come out to see if they could access the unit but they too were unable to do so and it now required that they do the repair the wiring by taking the roof off. Shawn was MORE than accommodating, he worked with the HVAC contractor to schedule a time when both could be present to correct this issue. We asked that the work be completed on Monday. Without a hiccup, the roof was taken off, copper wiring fixed and roof replaced. I have never experienced such amazing service, not to mention the quality of work is exceptional. There were some communication issues causing us to have a one week delay in installation, but it was worth the wait. They did a good job and cleaned up nicely after they were done.

Shawn measured the windows and provided an estimate, along with showing me a sample and a brochure of the Simonette windows which would be installed. When I selected him as my preferred contractor, he came over and performed a lead based paint test and gave me a brochure on remediating lead based paint. My exterior windows tested positive for lead based paint and he explained to me what the process would entail. A few days later, one of his supervisors, Herbert, came over to measure the windows with more than an approximation. The windows arrived two weeks later and were installed the following week. None of the windows with grids lined up exacly on the right side of each window. Herbert called Shawn who met me at the house later that same afternoon. Shawn then called the manufacturer's rep, who was at my house at 9:00 the next morning. He told me that all the windows with grids would be replaced and it would take about two weeks to have them manufactured. The windows actually came in about three weeks later, but it was no problem. Herbert came over and installed the new windows and lined them up. I couldn't have asked for better response and service than I got from SHS. I do plan to use them in the future on another project and can recommend them without any hesitation.

Mr. Kalgren arrived and we discussed the work that i needed done. We walked the back of the house so that i could show him the area that needed repair. After we discussed some of the causes of how the siding could have gotten that way Mr.Kalgren got his ladder and went up the side of the house to start assessing the damage. He cleaned everything out from underneath the siding and advised me of the most cost effective way to correct the issue, which would be to place a couple of nail in the siding because it had been cut to short to stay in place. He preformed the work and was done in less than an hour.

I had gotten several quotes from different companies. Some were from Angie's List and some were not. I ultimately selected Shawn and Southren Home Services because of the credibility and their prices were in line. Shawn was very informative and answered all my questions. He was also very responsive and returned phones call right away They did a great job with the initial work as well as post job questions and needs.

Rob Drumm arrived as scheduled for a quote and briefed me on the company and products. After measuring the roof he gave me the estimate and it included the options I wanted as they were standard for SHS. The estimate was in line with a previous estimate that I had from last year. I submitted the estimate to my insurance company and they said the SHS had over estimated the number of "squares" (roofing shingles) and they would have to remeasure before committing to additional compensation.Rob came back and remeasured from scratch and came up with the same numbers. The insurance company met Rob and they went over the numbers and found that Rob was right and the insurance company had errored in their measurements. This is important as the amount of additional compensation to me was huge. SHS knows what they are doing. If your insurance challenges SHS's numbers I would bet on SHS. Anyway, we had the agreed amount of compensation and Rob scheduled my job at my suggested date. On the day of the work, they workmen were at my house and started at 7:00am as promised. They moved quickly to cover plants and even the screen around our porch / deck. The foreman, Elvis, was personable and very knowledgeable. I had some questions and special requests that he took care of. The old roof was off in a few hours. I wantedt to start this day but was worried about afternoon showers. Rob monitored the weather and the work was completed before 5:00pm. Everything was cleaned up and during the final walk thru I saw nothing that need to be taken care of. There is a lot of stress going through a re-roofing job but with SHS it went like clock work, everything I had hoped for and more. After the work was completed, I talked to my neighbors and they said they were watching the work as it progressed (I was inside). Everyone was impressed by the workmanship and the cleanliness of the crew. Highly recommended. Outstanding.

I had one contractor come out & subsequently give me his (lower) bid over the phone -- & another contractor who never even got on the roof (talked on his cell phone, then came to the door w/a ridiculously high bid -- see my review of BTR Construction & Roofing) -- and then I had Southern Home Services come out. Not only was the representative punctual, courteous, professional & personable, but the first thing he did was hand me a notebook containing copies of their licenses, insurance & bond information, and pages & pages of referrals. Being a retired paralegal, I was impressed & very pleased to have this information provided to me up front. I had a list of questions about products, warranties & installation, which he proceeded to answer -- before I even had a chance to ask anything (& no, he did not see the list)! Their bid was very reasonable & their work was stellar. We scheduled it, they were on time w/MANY workers (no subcontractors) & it was done in a day. A large dumpster was dropped off early, as opposed to several visits to the dump w/a pickup truck as some of my neighbors used (obviously, different companies). They protected my landscaping & cleaned up so well that I found only 3 errant nails -- & I really looked for those! I was very pleased to know that they also do construction & I will call them again for that or -- Heaven forbid -- if another hailstorm damages my roof!

The whole process from showing up to give an estimate all the way through to the final walk-through after all was done was very smooth. Sean, the VP of Sales came out to give the estimate and was very friendly, helpful and easy going. The original quote was a little high, I got a couple more estimates and Sean was willing to come down on the price without much haggling. Rob was the supervisor on the installation and he and his team did an awesome job start the finish. It was clear this team had done this a million times, they all showed up on time (8am), starting doing their various duties without much discussion and was done by the end of the day (6pm). They were very careful to ensure our bushes and trees and the house was not damaged. They also cleaned-up really well (in fact our yard and deck was cleaner than when they showed up). There was a little bit of gutter damage which they more than willingly agreed to have fixed. You won't go wrong with these guys.

We had one or two other companies come out to give estimates on the roof. When I called SHS Shawn responded within 48 hours of my message and arranged a time to come out. Another company that came out first stated that we did not need to be home for them to give us an estimate. Shawn insisted on meeting with us during the initial appointment. After meeting with him I was impressed first, that he wanted to meet with me during the initial exam of the roof simply because others did not want to; and second, that he emphasized good customer service first. We were not disappointed with him or the employees that did the work. He was able keep to his initial timeline, the crew cleaned up nicely afterward, and Shawn returned at the end to review the work and answer any questions. He was also very responsive any time I called him and left no question unanswered. I recommended him to a neighbor and friend, and after she received estimates from other companies she did use SHS and has been happy. I highly recommend Shawn and his company.

The team and supervisor arrived at the precise time agreed upon. They began work immediately and continued until the work was completed and thoroughly cleaned up. We are very pleased with the entire process. We would absolutely recomend Southern Home Services for honest and fair estimates and quality work.

When we realized what the problem was we began the process of locating a reputable roofer to repair the problem. We found Southern Home Services, referred by our plumber that we also found on Angie's List, and contacted them for an estimate which they scheduled for the next day. Robert showed up promptly as scheduled and proceeded to confirm our suspicions regarding the problem. He was extremely pleasant and easy to deal with. He said it was a simple problem to resolve and he could have the repair crew here the next day. They too showed up exactly as scheduled and went right to work. They were finished within twenty minutes, having replaced two of the damaged pieces. (Sorry I don't remember the name of the piece.) The process couldn't have gone any more smoothly.

Had our roofed replaced with architectural shingles. Rob and the owner of the company were very responsive. Showed up as promised and did an excellent job. They were also very responsive when I called them back for a couple of very minor issues. Never complained about coming back and met all of my expectations. That all being said, as with any contractor, it is in your best interest to make sure everything is how you want it to be. For example, the distributor delivered the materials the day before and I noticed the ridge vent was different from what I had requested. I simply called Rob and he brought the requested ridge vent with him the day of the install.

Excellent from start to finish! The estimate was scheduled quickly and after the decision was made to hire SHS they were able to come the next week. They completed the whole job including an excellent clean up in less than 7 hours. I was amazed and very pleased with the quality of materials and workmanship. Thank you Shawn, Robert, and all the men who worked so hard!

Best expereince I've had with a contractor in a very long time. Shawn and SHS were superior! Extremely prompt and ALWAY contacted me 1st when issues occurred. I didn't have to chase them. They did the work. They did it promply. Pulled permits , as they should. Quality of workmanship was excellent. No surprises. Just a great organization to work with. I'd absolutley use them again and strongly recommend. We've dealt with a few roofing and vinyl contracts (that were actually well rated here on angie's list)... and SHS was far , far superior.

They were good. They were just very easy to work with and reasonable. I would use them again in the future if needed.

I did a lot of research before coming to Southern Home and Shawn. I found out that having your roof done with hand nailing is a lot more precise because guys with nail guns can get a little sloppy as they are trying to go fast. But with hand nailing... they have to use two hands and place the nail in the right spot. So, I knew that I wanted a company that does hand nailing. Shawn has a great reputation on Angie's list and he deserves it. The estimate was less than his competitor (as there are few that do hand nailing anymore) and the materials that he was using were great. I was impressed by the fact that the reason that he was using Owens Corning was because of the research he put into who was actually manufacturing the roof tiles. He has one team that has been with his group since he started. And they definitely are competent. When we booked the initial date for 6 weeks out... he called me in advance to tell me that a couple of jobs took longer than expected and gave me a new date. We communicated mostly over email, which is my preferred method of communication. Every email I sent was answered by the next day. So, that is huge (if y'all have ever tried to communicate with most contractors!). When the team arrived, I told them which plants I was concerned that they divert around and they made their tarps to be a slide so that everything that was coming off the roof was not flying and landing on all of my plants, but instead, were gathered in their own piles separate from my landscaping. In addition, they had the entire roof off and the new roof on in less than a day. There were 10 men on site with two guys who were obviously in charge. And these guys spoke great English, so I was able to communicate and ask questions as they were working. The other upgrades that I paid for (and would recommend) are the metal pipe covers. Normally, roofers put on a PVC one that has a lifetime guarantee of 10 years. The metal one lasts a lifetime. And it's not expensive. I also had Shawn put on a new synthetic as my liner instead of felt paper as it helps to reflect the sun so that my roof is not baking my house as much. Since I preferred the black color for the roof, this made me feel that I would at least be reflecting back some of the heat that the color invites. I highly recommend Shawn and his crew.

Shawn was very professional. He explained the products they use, their install process and the warranty. He did not try any hard sell tactics or talk bad about his competitors (like several other companies did). After considering several companies and getting numerous quotes, I decided to go with Shawn. I was very happy I did. His crew was GREAT. They installed the roof in just one day. His crew asked me if I wanted them to paint the vent pipes to match the roof. (Nice touch.) They did a phenomenal job of clean up. I couldn't find a single nail when I walked around the house looking for nails after they left. They did break a sidewalk light at some point in the install. Rather than try to hide it, like too many would do these days, they pointed it out to me. I needed a piece of plywood replaced as part of the install. They offered to either replace the plywood for free in exchange for the light or to buy another light. I took the plywood trade. I came out ahead on the deal. I really appreciated the fact that they pointed out the breaking of the light. It was a minor error on their part, but pointing it out shows what kind of character his crrew has. I have recommended them to many coworkers and would recommend them to anyone on Angies List. I am going to use Shawn to replace my windows with energy efficient windows.

Shaun came by to assess a minor leak I was experiencing in my bedroom ceiling. He was punctual and extremely professional. He took a few minutes to understand the background before going onto the roof to inspect the roof and ascertain the cause. Several minutes later, he returned with a photo of a nail pop in the shingle that was causing the issue. He also inspected the remainder of the roof to ensure no other nails or issues were present (that I may not have been aware of). He indicated that he could fix the issue immediately, if I was interested. I quickly agreed and within 15 minutes, he had completed the task and then explained exactly what he had done to correct the problem. I was very impressed with Shaun and told him that when I begin my project to build a detached garage in the spring, I would absolutely give him a call to quote on those services! Excellent experience!!

SHS was chosen because of their Angie's list rating and price. They started when they promised and finished as promised. They went so far as to check with our neighbors to make certain nothing they were doing on our property was upsetting the neighbors. They kept the property clean and neat at all times. We are most pleased with our 'new' home.

During the windstorm, some of my fascia was pulled from my roof. SHS came out, did the estimate and sent out someone to do the work. They were fast and professional!

Southern Home Services is a great company. Shawn is a pleasure to deal with. I originally was just going to have him install siding. But, I mentioned I also wanted to replace my windows and he suggested Gorell 5100 series windows. He didn't have a sample with him. So he directed me to the manufacturer's web site. He then visited my house a second time and brought two windows for me to look at. The windows seemed to be very well constructed and were easy to use and clean. Shawn was able to answer all of my questions about styles, colors and features. I liked what I saw. So, I had him put a quote together for the windows. One of Shawn's workers (Herbert) came out to measure the windows. He was also very pleasant to deal with and very professional. He measured to ensure that the front windows would keep their original look (Oriel). He also measured to ensure that some shutters I was having installed would match the window. Herbert and his crew arrived on time and worked quickly and professionally. They made sure all windows were installed with a good seal. They did not damage any interior trim around the windows. From the inside the windows just looked like they had always been there. They covered the exterior trim with an aluminum trim coil product. Caulk was applied very neatly wherever it was required. When finished, my yard and house were clean (as if the crew had never been there). The windows are fabulous. They really look nice. They are easy to clean. It is amazing how much less sound makes it into the house from outside now. I know they are going to make a noticeable difference in my gas and electric bill. I no longer feel cold when standing near a window on a cold day. I will definitely use Southern Home Services again in the future. I will definitely recommend them to my friends.
