Swimming Pool - In Ground - Build or Install
Our experience with Poolscapes of Charlotte was a disaster from start to finish. I would strongly recommend not engaging with them as a company, unless you are willing to pay a premium for a disappointing end product. We paid ~150k for our pool, and received the bare minimum possible service.
Please do your due diligence, talk to multiple companies, and above all else, get everything in writing. They will not disclose potential additional costs up front, they will not honor any verbal commitments that are not explicitly written in the contract, and they will point fingers and lay all blame on other contractors and you as the home owner, if anything goes awry.
To be clear, Poolscapes is not a disreputable company and they will deliver what is in your contract, but their primary focus seems to be on making money and not being a customer centric business. Be aware that any additional costs will be passed directly to you, the customer.

Our experience with Poolscapes was, in a word, okay. Owners and head of the crew were knowledgeable, but there was not enough communication throughout the project. The biggest issue we had was drainage, not the pool/install. Grading around the areas they hardscaped (retaining wall and pool equipment areas) had to be redone multiple times at our insistence because water was pooling up around the wall itself, our house and pool equipment. There were also a few decisions/minor changes in aesthetics we felt we should have been consulted on and were not. The end result of the project is mostly very nice – the pool and concrete look great. The finishing touches, however, were requested to be completed several times and we finally just decided we’d do them ourselves. The project will serve its purpose well and we are happy with the majority of the outcome; however, we did have to push for things as the project was near completion.

Poolscapes of Charlotte did a great job installing our new pool. Very professional and attentive to details. Can’t say enough about the people and the products - all First Class!

Based on reviews and calling several of their references we chose San Juan Fiberglass Pools of Charlotte. Bob and Justin made the process easy and efficient as can be and we were swimming in no time. They answered all my questions and provided good suggestions about the project along the way. We're happy to have this oasis in the backyard.

Very good. There were a few delays due to the weather but overall, very good.

My most recent contact was November 2016. The company addressed my concern right away and found the problem quickly, which gave me much peace of mind. I'm very grateful for their responsiveness and outstanding service.

As a home inspector, I was fairly familiar with the various types of in-ground pools (fiberglass, liner, and gunite). Yet I did a lot of research and even spoke with a fellow inspector who inspects pools as part of his service. His recommendation was fiberglass due to the overall lower maintenance costs and problems. I decided on fiberglass and set about picking a vendor. I settled quickly on San Juan after talking with owner Bob Fergione. He pointed out the distinctive properties of their pools. I really liked that the side walls were not ribbed, that is they do not taper in toward the bottom. We chose the Atlantic model. Anyway, bottom line is that Mr. Fergione gave us fabulous information packet and references. We signed the contract. His lead man, Justin Huffman, was fantastic. He kept the crew on track and kept me satisfied with information at each step of the way. The project took longer than expected because we did it over the winter of 2015/2016 and it rained quite a bit. We relied on San Juan's recommendation for a hardscaper and selected pavers. That all went well especially with Mr. Huffman stepping in to tell the sub-contractor what his expectations were (he knew much more about grading, pavers, coping, etc than we did). We asked a lot of questions along the way and were never made to feel like we annoyed them. Again, overall we are very satisfied. We would do it again without reservation. The overall cost includes landscaping, irrigation, fencing, etc. which added significantly to the project cost. The pool contract signed with San Juan with a minimal paver border was about $60,000. Again, we love it!

Of all the work we've done to our home, this was obviously the largest project - however - this team made it no more difficult than having a door knob installed! From the consultation phase, right through to the final 'Pool 101' session - it was a pleasure working with Bob, Justin and the team. The level of dedication, care, communication and pride is unparalleled. The level of service blew our minds (e.g. getting the pool water balanced and cleaning it throughout the construction phases, allowed us to swim weeks ahead of time - with none of the maintenance cares). The degree of customization (lights, waterfall, laminars, pavers, ladders, colors, inlays, automated systems, covers, etc., etc.) was wonderful - we have a 'one of a kind' oasis! I cannot overemphasize the care and communication of this team - I could write a book on the perfect construction experience - and use them as a model. I also appreciated the team's vision - they were able to see and explain how the project could be laid out - even with hills, trees and creeks in the way. This was a major excavation project that involved the removal of a mature wooded area, the building of retaining walls, a large paver area, and the relocation of at least 100 yards of dirt. We are thrilled with our results. My only complaint is that I don't have enough property to do a second project with them. I would highly recommend San Juan Fiberglass Pools of Charlotte (dba Poolscapes of Charlotte) to anyone - family, friends, neighbors and strangers alike. Thank you Bob, Justin and team! Thank you for your level of service, perfectly executed job, and fabulous final product!

We interviewed a couple of firms and with each explained we have no design ability and would need a lot of "handholding" throughout the process. He and his team were very helpful all along. Essentially every step of the process was completed on time and for any minor delays there was clear communication to make sure we understood the situation. The post-installation support was very helpful and Bob and his team have been available in the intervening years to answer questions / direct us to service providers as needed. PS: Bob and his team had installed a colleague's pool approximately 8 years prior and continued to answer questions / be available in the years thereafter. We appreciated the longevity of his business and this was a factor in our decision.

The San Juan team was professional and courteous. The pool installation was seamless and looks absolutely beautiful. I used San Juan for the pool, concrete, irrigation and fencing and all services provided were outstanding. Bob provided multiple lessons on how to run the pool and is willing to come again if needed.

It was horrible! the responsiveness and professionalism of this company was atrocious. They had installed our pool originally and was for the most part satisfied with that experience so when I had some questions on some deck and pool edge work we wanted to have done I called them. It took for ever to get a response. When i finally did someone to come out and look at what we wanted done there was no follow-up with a quote or anything. In that visit he had commented that our pump was making some noise and that they could fix that easily with a new seal. He gave me a price for that as well as replacing the plates in our fiber optic pool light and I told him that if we had the deck work done I would just have them do that as well. They just came and did it anyways and didn't even call to say they were coming!! I came home from a business trip to find my pump in pieces, the breakers off and no one to be found. Of course it was after hours when i got home and couldn't get a hold of anyone until the next day. When I finally talked to someone they told me I needed some other part that was backorderd and that they should be back in a day or two to finish up. Im not sure exactly what they did but 1 month later the entire impeller/diffuser assembly came apart inside the pump and forced me to call someone else to come and fix it. This company has no idea what customer service is and has the poorest quality workmanship. I wouldnt call them for anything and would advise anyone else to avoid them as well.

This was a terrible experience. We have never heard so many excuses on any project we have ever had done. They started with an old, broken down excavator that they could only run for about 10 minutes before they had to shut it down and turn the hose on it so it wouldn't overheat. They blamed it on the rock in our backyard. (First we were told by the project supervisor that rock is rare and they only run into 2 or 3 jobs a year with rock, and then a couple of weeks later the same guy is telling me "Union County is full of rock".) And here's a question.... if you are a pool company in this area and you know that rock is prevalent in this area, wouldn't you make sure you had the equipment to get the job done? So, they put the pool in and it is VERY unlevel. I understand you cannot get a pool perfectly level, but this is very unlevel. You can tell by looking at the water level. They built a retaining wall with a drooping concrete collar (they took 2 attempts at that as well and still couldn't get it right) that is now cracking in several places (NOT at the expansion joints). We picked out some lovely tile that was to be applied to the retaining wall by a guy they highly recommended. His first attempt at the tile was terrible. Most were crooked and unlevel. Even the "president" of the company came out to view the tile work and agreed with us that it looked bad. So he sends the same guy back again. This time it looked worse. Not only were the tiles STILL crooked and uneven, but the tile guy picked out an orange caulk and applied it to the uneven areas where the tile did not meet the edges (because of the aforementioned unlevel wall). We were never consulted about this orange caulk and would NEVER have approved it. So then the "president" wants to bring the same tile guy out AGAIN to apply a new caulk and to try to re-arrange the tiles to make it look as though its not crooked. Um, I'm no engineer, but with a crooked pool and crooked retaining wall, you CAN'T make square tiles look even. As for the concrete pool deck....his concrete subs came out and poured the deck and then knelt on wooden boards to smooth out the concrete. I asked the "president" after it was done if the marks from the boards would fade. I was assured they would. Its been over 3 months and these marks are still visible. Not to mention the other marks in the concrete (pictures attached) that we believe to be moisture wicking up through. The "president" offered to have the same concrete guys who did such a terrible job (twice) on the wall and the concrete deck come out and put down some random acrylic coating to cover up all their mistakes. We refused. Why would we want the same people back out here who had already screwed up so much?? Oh, and lets not forget the permanent white marks we have all around the pool (pictures attached). They sent some kid over with some kind of wax to buff out hundreds of tiny scratches that they made in the fiberglass and the wax left permanent white marks all over the concrete. When we asked the "president" what the wax was, he said "I don't know". REALLY??
This is only a portion of what we endured throughout this project. In the end, we refused to let any of them back on our property to "try to fix things again". This project took much longer than it should have and we were losing time that we should have been enjoying our finished pool. We were months into it and things still weren't right. The tile job was supposed to have taken 2 days. Their guy was here for weeks and it all has to be ripped off. Why would we want that guy back? The concrete collar and pool deck both have to be redone. Why would we want those same concrete guys back here to do anything? We tried reasoning with the "president" to come to a monetary settlement with us because its going to cost us ALOT of money to have all these issues redone and fixed. All he would agree to was a refund of $1,557.00 and that was only if we would agree to sign a document stating "we agree not to make any negative statements, comments, representations, publish, blog, etc. orally, written or online about San Juan Fiberglass Pools of Charlotte, company personnel, etc., etc..." and that THEY could determine if we ever in the future cause them to lose business. Needless to say, we refused to sign that. We countered, asking for additional money and we would agree not blog online about them. We only wanted a FAIR amount so that we could have the pool that we paid them $42,000 for and didn't get! We have never heard back from them. We entertain alot and everyone that has been to our house has seen the crappy job on the pool. That speaks volumes about this company and that alone will cause them to lose business. So now we move on to saving up the funds to have all of this redone.

This was a huge project and Bob and Justin did an outstanding job. This pool looks like something out of a magazine and the workmanship, professionalism, and overall attitude of this company is top notch! They listen to what you want and don't try to oversell you anything. We spent a lot of money on this project, but they also put in 20,000 pools too. They said ours is one of the biggest project they ever did, but you would never know it from the way they handled it. From day one they were extremely professional and a delight to work with. I only wish all contractors were this honest and easy to work with. We are very happy with the outcome of the project, love the fiberglass pool vs other types and it has added so much fun to our time around the house. We have had a few things go wrong with the pump (which is to be expect with a pool) but they were right on top of it and everything thus far has been covered under the one year warranty. They really stand behind the product and don't ignore you after they have been paid. We interviewed other pool contractors and it was like buying a used car, very pushy. We trusted our gut instinct and went with Bob and it was the right decision. We have recommended him to a friend and he did a huge spa for them, again in a courtyard. It is amazing and they were also very pleased with him. I would say if you are considering a pool definitely call this company, you will not be disappointed!

The last time I used them, I spent $2000 on their services. They are one of the best pool companies I have ever used. I will use them again in a second. Their prices are good and they stand by their work. They show up on time and do what they say they would do. They do not leave a mess.

We have a small back yard and San Juan had the perfect pool for it. We had researched whether to do Fiberglass or concrete/gunite and liked the reviews about maintenance on the fiberglass. San Juan did everything from getting our permits to teaching us how to use the pool cleaner. They stand behind their work and are there whenever we need them. We recently had the pool switched over to a salt water pool and they also helped us with that. I highly recommend San Juan from the reliability, turnkey, and assistance they provide even after we had been using our pool for two years. We have referred them to several of our neighbors and they have used them and are happy with them also.

We chose this company after doing a lot of research on various companies and types of pools. All of the reports on Angie's List seemed favorable and I spoke with many previous San Juan customers who all had nothing but positive things to say about Bob and the company. So far everything is going beautifully. Bob and Justin are both very knowledgeable and responsive. They are both prompt and very good at keeping us informed of what to expect during the process. It has been a pleasure working with them and the entire crew thus far.

All the employees were polite and easy to work with. The job took 8 weeks. It wasn't too inconvenient or hectic. We did have to postpone a pool party two weeks because the concrete wasn't done when expected, due to rain, but we were perhaps too optimistic. They were careful with our landscaping and plants we wanted to keep. The concrete company they use (Appetite for Construction) was a pleasure to work with as well. Everything we received was as in the contract and we are happy with the end result. They even put 8 jets in the spa, even though this particular spa is really meant to only have 6 because of the size of it, because my husband insisted the contract said 8. They were really willing to work with any requests and wanted us to be happy. We paid a little more than the original contract for extra concrete and a gas line we had to put in. They did not up-charge us on either of these items. After the fact Bob has been very accessible with any questions we have had.

AWESOME COMPANY! VERY PROFESSIONAL OWNER AND CREW. NO REQUEST OR IDEA WAS TOO MUCH OR LITTLE FOR THEM TO HANDLE. TIMELY, COURTEOUS, CLEAN AND EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE. MOST IMPORTANTLY, BOB & JUSTIN DID WHAT THEY PROMISED TO DO WHEN THEY PROMISED TO DO IT - VERY RARE THESE DAYS. QUALITY WORKMANSHIP ALL AROUND!
