It went well! Charlie and Don kept us informed along the way, stayed patient when we wanted to make changes, and worked within our budget and timeline to complete the project. This was a huge renovation for us, and we could not be happier with the way it went.

Right from the initial visit with Charlie, I know I found the right contractor for my project. Once the specifications were established and all the permits were acquired, the project went quickly and seamlessly. Charlie, along with his staff and sub-contractors delivered exactly what was promised.

We engaged with Remington Homes Inc to custom design/build a detached garage/workshop to go with our recently built home.  Charlie Courter's team designed the building from the ground-up starting with a blank sheet of paper.  As an avid scale model builder and motorcycle mechanic, I had some unique requirements for my shop.  Remington Homes patiently worked with my requirements, made several revisions to the design and delivered plans and estimate as promised.  The 2-story 40'x28' structure includes full central air/heat, hot and cold running water, an office, half bath, and a large upstairs conditioned storage loft.  The shop also needed hardy plank siding and a custom paint job to match the main house.  The 3 months of construction went very smoothly.  All of the various trades were courteous and neat.  The project was completed on schedule, within budget and exactly as promised.  I highly recommend this builder!!

My husband and I hired Charlie and Don with Remington Homes to build an addition to our ranch style home last year. They added a small family/music room, a half bath, a home office with a separate entrance, a small deck, installed a new HVAC unit and added a window to our existing dining room. This was the first time we did a major project like this one and we felt very blessed to have found Charlie and Don. We are very happy with our experience and we look forward to working with them again in the future. PROS: Knowledgable and professional Very Punctual and reliable Easy to reach and communicate with The contract and payment schedule was easy to follow and very easy to understand All their working crews are top notch (*except for the painting crew…more on that below) They always passed all city inspections without any problems, every single time They were sensitive to our needs and budget. Minor repairs done during the 1-year warranty period were taken care of very quickly CONS: I hesitate to say that there were any CONS, as truly there aren't any but rather there were 2 experiences that left us feeling a bit unsettled at the time: 1) The Painting crew: the boss for the painting crew was unreliable and incredibly disrespectful of our project and our time. We are not the type to give the keys to our house to anyone that needs to come in, and so we happily arranged our schedule to accommodate all workers needing to come in. We ended up moving our work schedule around for COUNTLESS missed appointments. When they would show up they didn't know what areas needed to be done, they would show up without ladders, without paint, or without any knowledge of what color/type of paint to use. When they missed an area, they had to come back for another set of numerous missed appointments. We always give people the benefit of the doubt, but this was truly ridiculous. We were obligated to use them as they were hired by Charlie, however if we were to do it all over again, I would hire my own. We dealt with the same problem in 2 separate occasions: first during construction last year, and then this year again, when they had to come touch up some repairs during our 1-year warranty period. Jobs that should have taken 1 day to complete, took weeks. The repair touch ups this year took from mid March till May to get them to show up to an appointment and get the work completed. 2) Sewage Pump: Charlie installed a sewage pump for our half bath. During our preliminary discussions we were told it would be dug and installed in an inconspicuous spot to the side of our property in a corner. They dug the hole and installed it IN-THE-MIDDLE of the yard. When I asked them to stop and move the digging to the location we were told at first, I was told it would cost us around $700-$800 + to have it moved since they had already started to dig the hole. Later, we were told that the city code specifies that the hole has to be dug a certain number of feet from the structure--information that we would have liked to have had prior to making a decision on which direction the sewage pump would face so it wouldn’t be right in front of the steps of our deck. Unfortunately this caused a lot of stress and left a bad taste on the experience. We've "learned to live with it", however we have an unsightly wooden post with a sewage pump alarm sticking out plus a large plastic lid also sticking out in the middle of the yard. After many discussions over the phone and in person with Charlie, he did apologize for the oversight and for not meeting our expectations on this regard, I appreciated his apology and we moved on. Like I said, Charlie and Don were really great to work with. Besides those two experiences, everything else went very smoothly and we are very pleased with how everything turned out. Thank you Charlie and Remington Homes for your services. We highly recommend them to anyone wishing to do an addition. Timeline of our project from start to finish: September 2014—Initial meeting with Charlie and Don Oct-Jan—had plans and drawings done ( we dragged our feet on this..it's not their fault!) 1/27/15—received a detailed construction estimate from Charlie 3/4/15—Signed a contract and placed our deposit with Remington Homes 3/9/15—Permits were sent 4/17/15--Permits were approved Construction began 4/29 Construction ended 7/31

"Thanks [Member Name Removed]. We enjoyed working with you on this project. The painter we were using back then had always been a great performer for us. The issues we had at that time were due to the fact the owner was working out of town and his lead man wasn't doing a very good job. We have since added another painter so if one is over booked we can bring on another."

Overall, I do highly recommend this company for building your mid-range or basic home. Charlie, the owner, is a very knowledgeable general contractor, and between him and Don, they were very responsive and addressed questions quickly, they completed the project on time and stayed on budget (there were a couple of items that were slightly more than anticipated, but the cost was less than 1% of the overall contract so very good overall). Especially in this high-demand building market, I was very impressed that they were able to stay on track and complete our beautiful home at a great price. We built a 3000 sq ft home in Plaza Midwood with mid-range finishes. The entire planning/mortgage/demo/building process took about a year as we started conversations early Aug 2015 and we were able to move into our new home mid July 2016. We wanted to stick to our budget and Remington Homes helped us do this by pricing out the floor plan that we liked with basic finishes, and then pricing out pretty much every upgrade and detail so we could pick and choose what we wanted. It was nice to be able to decide where our dollars were going, but it does take a fair amount of time to get the plan just right, so I would allow a good 4 to 5 months for the planning process. Also, there were some costs that were too low in the initial proposal as they started too basic (such as the kitchen, granite and master bathroom) and getting them to a mid-range finish/quality was more than I expected, but overall we were able to weigh our options and are very happy with what we were able to put in the home while keeping the budget reasonable. When building a home in general, I want to give fair warning that it is a long and time consuming process that requires a lot of attention to detail, good communication skills and patience on your part. My experience while building a home is I had to be very clear in what I was wanting and I put the time in to planning and reviewing a lot of details for our home. It's hard to know who to trust in this industry, so we were very grateful we found a company that was trustworthy and did the job well. Charlie had a great eye for building quality and would make sure the house was built according to high quality standards. There were a number of finishes/selections from our contract were not completed correctly the first time during the building phase, but Charlie would arrange for items to be fixed quickly, so there weren't time delays. Again, I do recommend being involved, keeping an eye on the progress, and keeping an open dialogue with your contractor when building a home. I also recommend setting up a meeting with Remington Homes if you're building a new home to see if they're a good fit!

I had a 28X34 foot garage built at the end of my driveway.  I had and extra electrical box and upgraded my house electrical at the same time.  I also had water run to the garage.  The upstairs is only storage.  Charlie and his crew were very thorough with this build.  All problems, (and things will always go a little off line) were handled quickly and very much to my satisfaction.  I would recommend them to anyone building an addition or separate building.

My house was started in September 2014 and I  moved in the first week of February 2015.  It was built from the ground up starting with tree removal to make room for it.  William Coulter of Remington Homes was with me every step of the way.  At 70 years old a relocation and the building of a new home can be very traumatic, as well as, nerve racking but Charlie took the time to explain each step of the project, keep me informed, and give me updates during the entire project.   He paid attention to details of the things that were most important to me, he gave me good suggestions but listened to what I wanted.  He was  professional but went the extra mile to make sure I understood each step and address any concern or worries I might have. He always responded to my phone calls within a reasonable amount of time and would come out to the site (even on a Sunday) if I needed him.  Like all new construction problems arise but were addressed as soon as they were brought to his attention. Since moving in Charlie has made himself available if questions arise or I need advice.  I feel like I not only have a great contractor but also a friend.  Quality of workmanship, fair prices, completion in a timely manner, are many of the things that I experienced during this build and are all reasons that I would recommend Remington Homes to others..

It was a combined project where I did some demo and some finish work. Remington Homes sub-contractors dug for and did the footing and
foundation, poured the concrete slab, did framing, roof, sheathing, drywall, electrical and plumbing. We painted, floor tile, siding and trim
work.
Footing and foundation - good, no issues
Framing - Good, had some issues where the roof met the upper walls, large gap at the fascia. I informed Charlie and problem was corrected.
Roof - good, no issues, roofers cleaned up after themselves.
Plumbers - so-so, they hooked up the hot and cold water backwards under the house. I went under the house checking up on them when they where done and noticed it. They should have asked me to which pipe was which. I was at home when connections where made. Inspection issues, failed inspection because pressure was not maintaining in pipes, only had one pressure gauge for both hot and cold water. They installed two after failure, but hot still lost pressure. Was told, we (plumbers) just have a bad valve, we do not have leaks. It was true, bad test/isolation valve. After it was removed, pipes where fine.
Electricians - Good on rough-ins, worked with me as to where I needed lights and receptacles. They had 3 runs back to my breaker panel, freezer,
lights/receptacles and receptacles. They said they tried to get the cables up the exterior wall and into my breaker box and could not, so they went out
through the foundation, then drilled back into my siding and used flexible conduit and pulled the cable through it. Not very good looking. After the
project was complete, I drilled a new hole under the house, up into my wall and did what they said could not be done. Run the cable up into the breaker panel through the wall. Took me maybe 15 minutes.
Electrical work at this point was unsafe and against code. While pulling one cable back, I found out that they had spliced the cable/wires inside the wall
with wire nuts and black tape. I fixed this when I re-did the cables with a junction box under the house and new cable. I told Charlie about this and sent a
picture to him. He sent it to the electrician's boss, but never heard any more about what I found.
Drywall - good work, got a little crazy on cutting out for the receptacles and lights. Had a large cut in the ceiling where the rotor tool must have gotten
away from them. Also cu a hole in the wall at the wrong spot, receptacle was to the right about 16 inches. Large gap around one recessed light, lucky the trim covered it up, just barley. All bad spots where fixed and can't tell they where there. Did a good job matching up the new ceiling with my old, nice and smooth.

Charlie was a pleasure to work with.  I had three contractors come out to bid on the renovation and Charlie immediately stood out from the crowd.  He provided a detailed estimate of the project and he stuck to it.  The other contractors seemed elusive on a final estimates so we went with Remington Homes.
When the project got started the crews that Charlie brought out were very courteous and respectful.  They showed up on the days they were scheduled and cleaned up the worksite when they were completed.  Furthermore the craftsmanship was wonderful and our home looks beautifull.
I read a couple critical reviews where the reviewers claimed they didn't receive a call back when they contacted Remington Homes.  I had a completely different experience.  Charlie either picked up the phone when I called or returned my calls the same day.  We have had a lot of work done on our property and no one has been better about staying in touch.  All in all it was a great experience and I recommend Remington Homes without reservation.

Charlie, Jeff,  and the sub-contractors were excellent. Very professional, detailed oriented, and competent.  In this day and age its truly unique when you find someone that backs up his work and is committed to doing everything at the highest level.  Charlie even went out and matched a small screw needed for an outlet in the floor. I would absolutely recommend Charlie and Remington Homes  to anyone needing any upgrades or construction completed. I actually had a home inspection done recently and any repairs needed I will be using Remington Homes to complete.

Mr. Courter of Remington Homes gave me a very, very reasonable estimate and stuck to it. The construction crews were ALL courteous, informative, fielded all of my questions and gave me even more information that would help me as a homeowner concerning the care of the new building. They cleaned up after themselves and did FIRST CLASS, structurally strong work! Remington also provided a Port-a-John for the crews. Despite the cold weather, the crews came out and did their jobs to the max! Changes and modifications in the building were handled very well and though none were major ones in terms of area, they were important in terms of the details of the finished product. Since I had done a basic design before hiring them and was pretty clear on what I wanted as an end product, I could not have been happier with what they produced. I would recommend them to anyone building smaller projects like mine up to and including finished homes. GREAT FOLKS! Cheerful, friendly and HARD WORKERS!

My husband and I had an unfinished four-season sunroom that had been started several years ago without the proper building and electrical permits.  After doing research on Angie's List, we decided to call Remington Homes Inc.  The owner, Charlie Courter, immediately put me at ease during our phone conversation and made an appointment to come out to the house and take a look at what needed to be done.  Within a week of the meeting, Charlie provided us with a detailed job proposal.  Once we made our decision and signed an easy to understand contract,  Charlie took care of everything.  He pulled the required permits, scheduled the necessary inspections, all of which were passed the first time around, and hired all of the sub-contractors. This activity was done with a high degree of professionalism and both Charlie and the sub-contractors were pleasant to work with.  We would not hesitate to hire Remington Homes Inc. again.

Having decided to make several changes in our house, we used Angie's List as a reference. Impressed by Charlie's excellent reviews, we added him to the list. Three of the proposals were excellent but we decided to select Charlie because of his knowledge and attention to our needs. He spent more time with us, making a return visit to take additional measurements and pictures so he could be sure of our requirements. He paid close attention to detail and, in the alternatives he suggested, provided us with significant savings.
For instance, we had a problem with our kitchen cabinets. There was room for an additional shelf at the top but the builder didn't take the doors to the ceiling. Other contractors proposed removing the existing cabinets and installing new units; it would be much easier and look better, they said. Charlie said no, the cabinets are good ones, let's just fix the problem: open them to the top, install new doors, and brighten the units with a new stain. The results are fantastic and we got exactly what we wanted at a much lower cost. We wanted wainscoting in the dining room. Charlie said that's going to be expensive, use shadow boxing instead. It cost us much less and looks great.
I once heard that customer service can be summed up in a single question: "how can I help you?" This is the philosophy of Charlie and his subs; it was obvious that they genuinely wanted to do excellent work and be sure the customer was pleased. All of them are knowledgeable, professional, and pleasant to work with. Work schedules were flexible and if something wasn't going to work as we had thought, they were quick to suggest something that would work while keeping it within our budget. Throughout the process, there were constant checks to be sure the work was superior and that progress was maintained. We were quite comfortable, knowing that we were in very capable hands.
The attention to quality was exceptional. I noticed that one area of the new kitchen floor hadn't been properly finished. The day after I noticed, the crew returned to work in another room, reviewed their work in the kitchen, saw the mistake and fixed it; I never had to say anything about it. After the new granite countertop was installed, the plumbers found a problem: the holes drilled for the faucet were wrong, our faucet wouldn't fit. Instead of throwing the problem back at the granite vendor, the plumbers suggested another faucet, made adjustments and installed it, correcting the problem.
Having been through the building of two custom houses and two other remodeling projects, this project with Charlie was, by far, the most pleasant and rewarding experience that we have known.
One of the most satisfying parts of the project was working with Charlie. He's easy to contact, responds quickly, and always keeps you up to date. While others might be in a rush, or not even show up, Charlie always takes the time to be sure that everything is on track and that you are pleased with the work. His character and professionalism are evident from the first time you meet him and the impression just keeps getting better.
If you think I'm exaggerating, wait until you meet Charlie.
The next time we want to do some work on our house, we won't request any proposals, we'll just call Charlie.

This was a complicated job requiring complicated framing, multiple support beams and integrating the kitchen into the new layout.
From the onset I found Charlie to be very open about what was involved with the job, he made multiple visits to our home with various tradesmen to ensure that he was in a position to perform the build and meet our expectations. He was very thorough and provided a quote with a full breakdown of the work that would be performed, he also spent the time with us to discuss items that may cause change orders due to unexpected challenges once the job was started - for things that could not be seen until the sheet rock was removed for example, he also made a point of letting us know that where his budget allowed he would cover items where possible - and I am pleased to say that there were no change orders resulting from unforeseen circumstances - and I know they had some challenges!
Charlie and his crew did a fantastic job, the finished product has exceeded our expectations, the integration work is seamless - you would never know that the kitchen had been changed around - the paint, crown molding, ceiling and flooring were matched perfectly. We found Charlie and his team extremely pleasant to work with, he clearly takes pride in what he does and made sure that any concerns we had were addressed.
In summary I would have no hesitation in recommending Charlie to others, you will find him thorough, professional, fair, honest and a pleasure to work with.

My husband and I recently bought our first home.  We wanted the floors refinished before we moved in and we hired a contractor who was recommended to us by people we trusted.  After two frustrating weeks of chasing after that contractor, giving him money, and getting no work done, I had enough.  I found Charlie through Angie's List.  I contacted him via email and he responded right away.  He empathized with my situation and could tell that I skittish about working with another contractor.  He went out of his way to make me feel at ease - explained everything about estimates, contracts, what to expect, how we would work together, etc.  He did this with kindness and a genuine respect for me as a customer and a person.
Charlie's price was very reasonable, his contracts are straightforward, and really spell out everything so you know what to expect.  Because he treated me so well and because he came prepared to our first meeting, I hired Charlie on the spot.  He got to work right away getting some to deliver the wood for the floors so it could begin to acclimate.  Through the entire project Charlie watched over things and communicated with me without me having to chase him down.  The people he brought in to do the floors were highly skilled and also very focused on making sure I would be happy with the final result.  One morning they patiently worked with me to pick a stain color without making me feel rushed or acting like I was an inconvenience.
I would highly recommend Charlie if you want someone you can trust and who will be sure everything is done right.  Charlie cares about his customers and that shows through in his work.  Let's face it - remodeling, renovations, and home repairs are stressful.  If you hire Charlie you won't feel alone in the process.  One time he told me that his #1 priority was my satisfaction.  Those were not empty words or a sales pitch - that really was how he treated me and how he will treat you too.

Overall, Charlie was a pleasure to work with. He contracted capable workers who were good at their trade and pleasant as well. Even though our project was relatively small, Charlie wound up paying a lot of attention to it and some of the services were even performed on evenings and weekends to get it done. We decided to "bite the bullet" and commit to the full conversion of our garage to usable living space. We basically added a new room inside our finished garage that became our new laundry.  Our existing laundry (right off kitchen) became our nice, big new pantry! Our former pantry was not much more than a linen closet-sized space. Part of the project also included removing the garage door, installing a couple of windows, and completing the exterior look with siding and matching the paint color of the house. The job also included new carpet, paint, installation of several new lighting fixtures and ceiling fans, and trouble-shooting a few other electrical issues. Charlie and crews did a great job! My wife absolutely LOVES her new laundry room and pantry!

My husband and I were searching for the perfect home for our growing family. We looked at MANY homes but found no other homes that came close to what we got for our money with Remington Homes! Charlie Courter, the builder, couldn't have been nicer. I found the home originally when searching MLS listings and knew I had to see it right away! I was shown the home that very day, fell in love and made an offer than that night!
We have 2 young kids so the open floor plan was perfect for our family! I was happy with the quality of the materials used. We have our 1 year walk through this month and I think we have less than 5 nail pops to fix... that's it for our whole walk through! It's a solidly built home that we adore. We love the all brick exterior and neutral colors used throughout the home. It was a blank canvas for me to decorate with. The home was move in ready when we bought it and it was so nice to not feel the need to come in and change anything. We were happy with Remington's choices inside and out.
Charlie Courter was excellent to work  with. He was easy to get in touch with and I found his communication throughout the process to be better than I expected based on my previous experience with a nationally known home builder. After my experience with Charlie, I couldn't ever see us buying a "cookie cutter" home from a national home builder again. The experience was night and day. I'm not
one to have workers in my house while my husband isn't home but we trust Charlie and that rule didn't apply to him. He's genuinely a nice and trustworthy man.
The only negative thing that happened was our dishwasher kept coming unglued from the cabinets. Charlie came many times to fix it. Any time I would call, he would come that day or the next which I always appreciated. Eventually we learned it was a bad batch of epoxy and wasn't his fault. My husband and I were very impressed with how he handled it and how prompt he was to fix it.
Overall, we have nothing but wonderful things to say about Remington Homes. We definitely recommend them if you're considering building a home, buying one of his spec homes or considering a renovation. If we ever decide to move from this home, we would definitely contact Charlie to build us another home.
