"Thanks [Member Name Removed]. We enjoyed working with you on this project. The painter we were using back then had always been a great performer for us. The issues we had at that time were due to the fact the owner was working out of town and his lead man wasn't doing a very good job. We have since added another painter so if one is over booked we can bring on another."
"Thanks [Member Name Removed], we had a blast building your home. It was a challenge building in an area with out a lot of room to work. I am so glad you are pleased."
"Thanks Bill!"
foundation, poured the concrete slab, did framing, roof, sheathing, drywall, electrical and plumbing. We painted, floor tile, siding and trim
work.
Footing and foundation - good, no issues
Framing - Good, had some issues where the roof met the upper walls, large gap at the fascia. I informed Charlie and problem was corrected.
Roof - good, no issues, roofers cleaned up after themselves.
Plumbers - so-so, they hooked up the hot and cold water backwards under the house. I went under the house checking up on them when they where done and noticed it. They should have asked me to which pipe was which. I was at home when connections where made. Inspection issues, failed inspection because pressure was not maintaining in pipes, only had one pressure gauge for both hot and cold water. They installed two after failure, but hot still lost pressure. Was told, we (plumbers) just have a bad valve, we do not have leaks. It was true, bad test/isolation valve. After it was removed, pipes where fine.
Electricians - Good on rough-ins, worked with me as to where I needed lights and receptacles. They had 3 runs back to my breaker panel, freezer,
lights/receptacles and receptacles. They said they tried to get the cables up the exterior wall and into my breaker box and could not, so they went out
through the foundation, then drilled back into my siding and used flexible conduit and pulled the cable through it. Not very good looking. After the
project was complete, I drilled a new hole under the house, up into my wall and did what they said could not be done. Run the cable up into the breaker panel through the wall. Took me maybe 15 minutes.
Electrical work at this point was unsafe and against code. While pulling one cable back, I found out that they had spliced the cable/wires inside the wall
with wire nuts and black tape. I fixed this when I re-did the cables with a junction box under the house and new cable. I told Charlie about this and sent a
picture to him. He sent it to the electrician's boss, but never heard any more about what I found.
Drywall - good work, got a little crazy on cutting out for the receptacles and lights. Had a large cut in the ceiling where the rotor tool must have gotten
away from them. Also cu a hole in the wall at the wrong spot, receptacle was to the right about 16 inches. Large gap around one recessed light, lucky the trim covered it up, just barley. All bad spots where fixed and can't tell they where there. Did a good job matching up the new ceiling with my old, nice and smooth.
When the project got started the crews that Charlie brought out were very courteous and respectful. They showed up on the days they were scheduled and cleaned up the worksite when they were completed. Furthermore the craftsmanship was wonderful and our home looks beautifull.
I read a couple critical reviews where the reviewers claimed they didn't receive a call back when they contacted Remington Homes. I had a completely different experience. Charlie either picked up the phone when I called or returned my calls the same day. We have had a lot of work done on our property and no one has been better about staying in touch. All in all it was a great experience and I recommend Remington Homes without reservation.
For instance, we had a problem with our kitchen cabinets. There was room for an additional shelf at the top but the builder didn't take the doors to the ceiling. Other contractors proposed removing the existing cabinets and installing new units; it would be much easier and look better, they said. Charlie said no, the cabinets are good ones, let's just fix the problem: open them to the top, install new doors, and brighten the units with a new stain. The results are fantastic and we got exactly what we wanted at a much lower cost. We wanted wainscoting in the dining room. Charlie said that's going to be expensive, use shadow boxing instead. It cost us much less and looks great.
I once heard that customer service can be summed up in a single question: "how can I help you?" This is the philosophy of Charlie and his subs; it was obvious that they genuinely wanted to do excellent work and be sure the customer was pleased. All of them are knowledgeable, professional, and pleasant to work with. Work schedules were flexible and if something wasn't going to work as we had thought, they were quick to suggest something that would work while keeping it within our budget. Throughout the process, there were constant checks to be sure the work was superior and that progress was maintained. We were quite comfortable, knowing that we were in very capable hands.
The attention to quality was exceptional. I noticed that one area of the new kitchen floor hadn't been properly finished. The day after I noticed, the crew returned to work in another room, reviewed their work in the kitchen, saw the mistake and fixed it; I never had to say anything about it. After the new granite countertop was installed, the plumbers found a problem: the holes drilled for the faucet were wrong, our faucet wouldn't fit. Instead of throwing the problem back at the granite vendor, the plumbers suggested another faucet, made adjustments and installed it, correcting the problem.
Having been through the building of two custom houses and two other remodeling projects, this project with Charlie was, by far, the most pleasant and rewarding experience that we have known.
One of the most satisfying parts of the project was working with Charlie. He's easy to contact, responds quickly, and always keeps you up to date. While others might be in a rush, or not even show up, Charlie always takes the time to be sure that everything is on track and that you are pleased with the work. His character and professionalism are evident from the first time you meet him and the impression just keeps getting better.
If you think I'm exaggerating, wait until you meet Charlie.
The next time we want to do some work on our house, we won't request any proposals, we'll just call Charlie.
From the onset I found Charlie to be very open about what was involved with the job, he made multiple visits to our home with various tradesmen to ensure that he was in a position to perform the build and meet our expectations. He was very thorough and provided a quote with a full breakdown of the work that would be performed, he also spent the time with us to discuss items that may cause change orders due to unexpected challenges once the job was started - for things that could not be seen until the sheet rock was removed for example, he also made a point of letting us know that where his budget allowed he would cover items where possible - and I am pleased to say that there were no change orders resulting from unforeseen circumstances - and I know they had some challenges!
Charlie and his crew did a fantastic job, the finished product has exceeded our expectations, the integration work is seamless - you would never know that the kitchen had been changed around - the paint, crown molding, ceiling and flooring were matched perfectly. We found Charlie and his team extremely pleasant to work with, he clearly takes pride in what he does and made sure that any concerns we had were addressed.
In summary I would have no hesitation in recommending Charlie to others, you will find him thorough, professional, fair, honest and a pleasure to work with.
Charlie's price was very reasonable, his contracts are straightforward, and really spell out everything so you know what to expect. Because he treated me so well and because he came prepared to our first meeting, I hired Charlie on the spot. He got to work right away getting some to deliver the wood for the floors so it could begin to acclimate. Through the entire project Charlie watched over things and communicated with me without me having to chase him down. The people he brought in to do the floors were highly skilled and also very focused on making sure I would be happy with the final result. One morning they patiently worked with me to pick a stain color without making me feel rushed or acting like I was an inconvenience.
I would highly recommend Charlie if you want someone you can trust and who will be sure everything is done right. Charlie cares about his customers and that shows through in his work. Let's face it - remodeling, renovations, and home repairs are stressful. If you hire Charlie you won't feel alone in the process. One time he told me that his #1 priority was my satisfaction. Those were not empty words or a sales pitch - that really was how he treated me and how he will treat you too.
We have 2 young kids so the open floor plan was perfect for our family! I was happy with the quality of the materials used. We have our 1 year walk through this month and I think we have less than 5 nail pops to fix... that's it for our whole walk through! It's a solidly built home that we adore. We love the all brick exterior and neutral colors used throughout the home. It was a blank canvas for me to decorate with. The home was move in ready when we bought it and it was so nice to not feel the need to come in and change anything. We were happy with Remington's choices inside and out.
Charlie Courter was excellent to work with. He was easy to get in touch with and I found his communication throughout the process to be better than I expected based on my previous experience with a nationally known home builder. After my experience with Charlie, I couldn't ever see us buying a "cookie cutter" home from a national home builder again. The experience was night and day. I'm not
one to have workers in my house while my husband isn't home but we trust Charlie and that rule didn't apply to him. He's genuinely a nice and trustworthy man.
The only negative thing that happened was our dishwasher kept coming unglued from the cabinets. Charlie came many times to fix it. Any time I would call, he would come that day or the next which I always appreciated. Eventually we learned it was a bad batch of epoxy and wasn't his fault. My husband and I were very impressed with how he handled it and how prompt he was to fix it.
Overall, we have nothing but wonderful things to say about Remington Homes. We definitely recommend them if you're considering building a home, buying one of his spec homes or considering a renovation. If we ever decide to move from this home, we would definitely contact Charlie to build us another home.
