A technician form Pro-tec Plumbing and Drain came to our home through American Home Shield to repair toilet tank's malfunctioning fill valve and flapper. That technician is absolute liar. He labelled problem wrongly as "due to misuse or abuse". In fact that guy never asked us how the problem occurred. My advise is, never hire this company for any work. They should not be not in any business, not even in cleaning people's toilets. They came to us through American Home Shield. We have raised complain with American Home Shield also, why they are hiring company like this.

This company was hired through my home warranty company to fix a toilet leak. This company sent Kane to my house. He is the biggest liar and a total jerk who hates his job. As can be seen in the attached photons even without taking the toilet off it is clear that there is a leak since the hardwood color is changing. Kane said there is no leak and he does not need to do anything. When I told him that we have seen water coming from under the toilet he told me that I was lying. I called Jesse and he said to ask the home warranty to recall the job. But when the home warranty recalled the job, Jesse just cancelled it. I called another plumber and he fixed the leak in 20 minutes by changing the wax (see photos). Based my experience with this company, lying is part of the culture of this company and they cheat and lie shamelessly.

Great. Jessie replaced the shut off valve and fill tank valve. He also checked the flapper to see if it was working properly. I called and less than 1 hour he was at my home. He was professional and friendly.

Plumber first tried manhandling the bonnet nut and said we may have to pay for replacing the whole valve body. He then backed off and hack sawed the bonnet nut off. He left and came back. Said he couldn't get just the bonnet nut but had to buy a $95 valve body just to get the nut. He replaced the cartridge and fixed the leaky shower. I verified both were working fine. After work was completed, I was charged a service fee of $75. In the end I wrote a $165 check + $175 angies list deal = $340. Plumber kept the valve body though I paid for it. I had planned on buying an $8 bonnet nut off Amazon.com and put it on the valve body and returning it. I had 2 shower cartridges, one opened for the shower plumber was to fix and one unopened for our other shower. Apparently, he greased up the first cartidge which you're not supposed to do then used the other one. So, adding into the price the loss of a cartridge ($32) and valve body ($85) brought the cost from $340 to $457.00. I feel I should receive a refund of $117.00. Angie's List you suck.
Response from Pro-tec Plumbing & Drain
"Good evening ,sorry you didn't have a good experience with my services ,unfortunately I did the best I could with the situation that was given to me .The issue is that the bonnet was seized on the valve body preventing you from replacing it your self .So using my experience I saved you money by not having to replace the valve in which would of cost you in the 600 to 700 dollar range. Now being that you purchased the $175.00 deal off of Angie's list which only covered Up to 2hours of labor and I was there for almost 3 ,I gave you a discount for your services,Sorry once again for you experience, but being that has been almost 6mths since I've been out ,looks to have been a good repair.I don't know what your intentions where with the valve body that I purchased to make your repair .I was not informed .Thank you for your review"

For the follow up visit he quoted us for $500+ for an estimated 2 hours of work. It only took him half that time but the price was still the same. I guess that is how plumbers charge, but it would have been nice if he had more accurately estimated his time and saved us a bit. The work seems quality.

Response from Pro-tec Plumbing & Drain
"[Member Information Removed] apologize that the deal you bought was for more than the time that it took to complete the job. The deal was actually cheaper than what it would cost for most plumbers to come out and complete the same work."

I was tired of calling big companies who sub-contract their work not knowing who was coming to my door and having no one to call back should there be a problem with it without having to pay again for yet another sub-contractor. They have no need to take pride in their work. I was also tired of paying for both the contractor and the big name company who would say they would come at noon, then 2:00pm and so on until they arrived after 10:00 pm. ENTER JESSE. Prompt, Professional, and Clean. He calmed my nerves and got right to work. No selling me crap I didn't need and offered me a senior discount straight away. No taking advantage of an old lady. Upon completion, he didn't grab his check and run. Instead, he took the time to address several of my concerns with problems I can see coming and was kind enough to show me where my emergency cut-off was. I hadn't a clue. I am comforted by the fact that I now have a plumber. I will use him always. An honest person that I can call, and trust, and not have to worry if, or when, he will show up or try to take advantage of someone whose only income is Social Secuity....not that he knew that. He's just honest, hard worker. Jesse is knowelable and knows what he is doing. I strongly suggest you give give Pro-Tec Plumbing a try. He will not disappoint.

Everything went very well.  We had questions about whether to upgrade to a tankless water heater and he gave us the pros and cons of a tank vs. tankless.  After this, we decided to go with a tank and upgraded to 50 gallons as the older one was 40 gallons.

Jesse disassembled the older tank and the gas connections.  He then put in the new tank and reconnected the gas back up.

He even put in a trap on the gas line that was supposed to have been put in under the new codes.

Everything went well! Jesse consulted us on whether we wanted a tank or tankless water heater. After hearing the pros and cons we decided to go with a tank water heater. Jesse unhooked the tank and the gas lines and installed the new tank, replacing some of the older plumbing. He even added a trap to the gas line to make it up to code.
