"I am surprised to see this report because this member and I have been in contact and have resolved the issue, or so I thought...but since he felt he needed to make this report I feel like I should fill in some blanks. I met this member in 2017 and we came to an agreement on a drainage resolution for his backyard, my team installed the drainage within a few weeks of our meeting. 18 months later this member contacted me and said there was a wet spot that never seemed to dry out and asked me to check it out. My first response was to ask if there could be an irrigation leak, the usual culprit when there is an isolated wet spot that never dries out. This member told me that his irrigation was off so that was not the issue. When I visited this members property I discovered that the backyard had been completely regraded and sodded since we had completed the drainage and in my opinion that work compromised our drainage. It also explained why the drain was in for 18 months before he contacted me about a problem. When people spend this kind of money on drainage you get a call after the first rain if there is an issue... I called this member from his backyard and explained my theory of what happened and while he did not agree with me on the cause he asked me how I would resolve the issue and how much it would cost. Our warranty clearly states that if any work is done by other contractors that compromises our drainage it voids the warranty. I told this member that since he had been so easy to work with and if he would give me some breathing room (the weather/rain is killing us!) that I would take care of it as a warranty item, at no charge, the next time I was in the area. We have spoken a couple of times since then and I thought we were on the same page as far as a resolution. Seems like we are not so I will be reaching out to this member after this post. Whenever there is a misunderstanding with a member that compels them to make a negative post I like to look at it as good feedback but also as an opportunity to connect with other members. The following is our Drainage Guarantee, a guarantee that has not changed in 25 years- "Kevin James Landscape Inc. guarantees all of the drainage that we install to work properly. We cannot be responsible for any drainage that we add to, or drainage that is added to our original installation. We cannot be responsible for damage due to construction, other contractors, improper irrigation management, or "Acts of God" such as torrential flooding. Our drainage will work properly under normal circumstances or we will correct the problem at no additional charge." Regardless of this report I am still committed to keeping my word and will be reaching out to this member to address his concerns over an issue I thought was already resolved. Thank you for taking the time to read this report and my response. Kevin James"
"I'm sorry this member felt I was short with him but I have found that most homeowners like a quick phone interaction so I try to ask what the problem is, explain my process and set up a consultation in under 5 minutes. This member had a drainage problem that he had "fixed" but he still had water coming into the basement and thought French drains would solve the problem. I explained to this member that while he might be on the right track with French drains I would need to come out and assess the situation and provide my own solution and for that service we charge $150- a charge that is rebated if we do the work. He said that he was uncomfortable paying $150 for me to look at the drainage so that's when I explained to him we do lots of things and would be happy to look at any and everything landscape related and he said he did not need a whole yard consult and was still uncomfortable with the fee to just look at the drainage...and that if I was still interested I was welcome to come give him a quote on what I think it would take to fix the drainage problem but he was uncomfortable paying a fee...and that's when I told him I was uncomfortable providing free advice, wished him luck solving his drainage problem, hung up and moved on to the next member who had absolutely no issues paying a consultation fee. While I'm disappointed in this report it gives me an excellent opportunity at the start of our busy season to explain our process so hopefully I can avoid making other members feel uncomfortable. For me, the owner of the company with 35+ years experience in the landscape/hardscape/drainage field, to come to a members home to give advice, offer suggestions and solutions followed up by a detailed proposal sent by email the same day there is a $150 consultation fee. That fee is rebated back if we do the work. Its that simple. In my 20+ years as an A rated Service Provider on Angie's List I have learned there are two types of members, there are members who expect you to come out for free and there are members who have absolutely no problem paying a fee for a service- just like when you call an electrician or a plumber. I actually came up with the consultation fee/rebate idea from and electrician friend of mine. My 20+ years on Angie's List, 25 years in business and over 300 reports have also taught me that the worst reports posted about my company all have the same thing in common, they all have an issue with the consultation fee/pricing- not our work. Again, I'm disappointed in this report but ultimately think some good has come out of it. I wish this member the best of luck in finding a service provider he feels comfortable with and can get his drainage problem solved once and for all. Please visit our website at Kevinjameslandscape.com , email me at the address on our website, or call/text my direct cell # 704-201-1282 for more information about our company, our services and my process. Thank you for taking the time to read this report and my response. Kevin James"
