Joyce's Hardwood Floors

The house was built in the 40s with original wood floors. The last tenant accidentally stained a circle of the living room (water stain, which turned the floor into a very dark spot). I called James and he said the only way to repair is to sand and refinish it. He came out the same day to quote. It was more cost effective and sensible to do both the living room and dining room (they are joined together with a big opening) - James said that way the color and shine won't vary. They finished job in 3 days (1st day sand and stain 1st coat; then one coat each on the next 2 days) The finish product is great. However, I think the price is comparable to other companies (about $2/sq. ft.) and would have been too expensive if we just did 1 room. I have found cheaper after we made the appt. (they called me back a day later). James does run late sometimes. But, he responded the fastest, that's why he was hired.

Mr. Joyce is a member of the Better Business Bureau and I compared his estimate with a couple of other reputable businesses. He responded to phone calls promptly, showed up when he said he would, charged a fair price and did good work in the time he had promised. The floor looks great and I felt comfortable having him in the house while I was away. I would recommend him to any of my friends.

They did a terrific job. Because the surface area encompassed several rooms and our older home has less than straight walls, James agonized over making sure the wood was laid as straight as possible. They took their time and it turned out beautifully. They were punctual, polite, and cleaned up after themselves. I would heartily recommend them and won't hesitate to use them again.

We were very pleased. They worked hard. They did exactly what they said they were going to do and when they were going to do it. Their price was significantly under their competitor's price and it was not a sacrifice in quality. They perfectly matched the existing wood flooring. We have no complaints.

James was courteous and prompt at the start of the work. However we were on a deadline and James moved his finishing date 5 times due to poor help or other engagements. His help finished most of the polyurethane and the job was shoddy at best. Since he moved his finish date, when the painters came in they taped off their drop cloths and the finish came up with the tape, even after 2 full days of dry time. A lot of junk in the poly, and a lot of poly spills on the floor. He also cleaned out his van while working on our house and left a lot of trash and his tools in our house for over a week. Simple job, poor service.

This was a last minute job and we needed a pretty quick turnaround. We had about a week to get the job done since we were moving in the following Friday. We had two previous estimates and contacted James to see if he could do better. We contacted James on a Thursday evening and he met with us on Saturday to give us a quote. He did better than his competitors so he got the job. He promised to start on Tuesday but was not able to start until Wednesday. The job was finished by 8 pm Thursday. We were pleased with the quality of the work.

This was a wonderful experience. James returned my original call immediately and came out the very next day to take a look at the floors. He quoted the lowest rate I'd received ($1675) and started 2 business days later. He finished about 800 sq ft of floors in under 3 days. They came back the following week to put down the shoe molding for an additional $300 plus materials and were done in a day. He and his partner are VERY professional, courteous, and conscientious. They were on time every day and cleaned up after themselves. I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone! *Pricing Note: I purchased the wood from Home Depot. I'd already installed some of the floors myself (about 350 sq ft out of the total 1150 we had to do) and had all the subflooring already ripped up. James simply came in and laid the remaining hardwood floors.

James was great to work with. I called him on a Wednesday and he came to install the flooring on Tuesday. The whole job took about one day total (Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday noon). He was friendly and reliable, as was his assistant. They did a great job and our floors look great. I really appreciated him coming on such short notice and his responsiveness.
