GUTTER HELMET PIEDMONT
About us
Gutter Helmet® started in the early 1960s, when Bob Demartini, an alumnus of MIT began to develop a meshless gutter cover system. Clogged gutters had concerned him for some time and Bob wanted to give homeowners an alternative to cleaning their gutters or installing flimsy gutter screens. He eventually pursued his original “nose forward design” into development and testing. He came to call his innovative product Gutter Helmet®. He applied for the first of many U.S. patents. Bob Demartini officially launched Gutter Helmet® in the fall of 1981. On September 16, 2005, SEMCO - Southeastern Metals Mfg. Co. acquired Gutter Helmet®. Proudly Made in The USA, headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida. SEMCO is a division of Gibraltar Industries, a multi-billion dollar International building industries company. Gutter Helmet® remains the very best gutter protection system in the world today. More than one million homeowners have chosen Gutter Helmet to protect their homes and families and we hope you will too. DBA Tedmar Corporation.

After a recent storm, I climbed up the ladder to remove some debris which collected on the gutter where GH used two different types of gutter covering material. (Those are the places where the cover is not visible from the ground-see note earlier report.)
Important:
(1) Using two types of covering material definitely detracts from the professionalism and quality of the completed work and no doubt will affect the durability and overall effectiveness of the covering
(2) BUT GH said the (expensive, first-quality) covering we selected apparently did not go around the corners on our roof (!) therefore it was necessary to mix and match covering types around the entire front of the house. (I would have expected Ted Mosley or his installer would have known that in advance from their extensive experience, but apparently that's incorrect.)
(3) The second material which they substituted is less expensive, less durable, less effective and generally inferior quality so their substitution should have reduced our job cost. The interest paid by us while we waited for GH to perform should likewise have been refunded to us.

Report from 2/18, "Finally I have now been contacted by the installer and the work is supposed to be completed today. They are also supposed to provide photos or some type of proof of the work being completed because at 73 I don't care to climb up on the roof to check it out. Thanks for your intervention to get this moving. Beverly "
LONG STORY SHORT ... Several days later, STILL don't think they've finished as we can't see the edge of gutter helmet peeking over the top of some of the gutters AND we haven't seen any photos showing their work is complete.
My 78-yr-old husband is fearless and nearly fell off of our steep roof a few years ago. I was anxious to have this done so he wouldn't ascend again. Also, the previous homeowners had a roof leak. Although repaired by the previous owner - and later by us - it was difficult to find and resolve and was determined to be caused by clogged guttering.
We contracted with Ted Moseley 1/19/16. The price seemed a little steep but the Gutter Helmet equipment seemed very sturdy; also the "forever warranty" for equipment and maintenance was appealing and it seemed this would resolve the issue of clogged gutters and water backups forever.
RARELY - if ever - have we AGREED to have work done in excess of even $200 without checking (references, BBB, social networks, Angie's, ... and prices) - but I did it this time because I didn't want to give my husband time/opportunity to back out.
In fairness, Mr. Moseley DID tell us they had a 2-3 week backlog so we were prepared for a delay. AND in fairness, we did have some cold, rainy/icy weather during our wait.
Our primary concerns were
(1) Four or five phone calls to Mr. Moseley were not returned when we were trying to find out when the work would be completed.
(2) Also, Mr. Moseley billed the ENTIRE $2000 cost to my VISA the day the contract was signed. I expected a down payment or a verification of card and funds, but was very surprised to find I was paying interest on this amount immediately when paired with a 2-3 week delay in the project.
After reporting Mr. Moseley's unresponsiveness and the other details of this transaction to Angie's, my phone began ringing. Mr. Moseley and the installer phoned several times and the work was completed toward the end of February. Furthermore, after I expressed concern to Mr. Moseley that I had no way to verify the completion or quality of the work without ascending a tall ladder to verify this, an agreement was reached for the installer to provide photos of the completed work so we will not have to do that.
Be assured if the photos show otherwise, I will be back in touch with Angie's. THANK YOU!

"When the job was originally quoted we advised that there appeared to be some wood rot on the fascia and we included the amount for this repair. However when the install crew did the work, they discovered a section of the home that had much more extensive wood rot not only to the fascia but also to the soffit and rafter tails. We advised the customer that he would need to get a carpenter to repair that soffit and rafter tail damage since our company does not handle that type of repair. We also advised that once he had that completed we would come back and install the Gutter Helmet on that section of the house. To date we have not been advised by the customer that this work has been completed. We immediately adjusted his bill to show that we did not do the soffit work or that installation of that one section."
