Our overall experience was frustrating, aggravating, confrontational and incomplete. We had to close by a certain date to ensure our low-rate mortgage loan. Mr. Brody knew this. At the closing, the house was not complete. Mr. Brody signed a legal document requiring to make certain punch list repairs. We have been in our house nearly four months and some of those repairs have not been made, in addition to numerous punch list items we have asked him to correct. Equally alarming, we have had a lien placed against our home because Mr. Brody has failed to pay a subcontractor. Mr. Brody says once a certificate of occupancy is issued, he will not fix code violations. We have been forced to hire handymen to fix punch list items Mr. Brody says he will not correct. Since we signed our contract, Mr. Brody has been nearly impossible to contact and placed multiple barriers in our path. He demands that we communicate through surrogates who he then ignores.
Description of Work: From the moment we signed our first contract, Mr. Brody's personality changed from a willing, cooperative custom-home builder to a general contractor who became adversarial. Mr. Brody's promotional material includes numerous misrepresentations. For example, his brochure reads, ''A Charlotte School of Design graduate is assigned to each homeowner to coordinate and customize their home.'' We never met any designer. Mr. Brody resisted suggestions, made promises he didn't keep, and missed numerous construction deadlines with a cavalier attitude. Mr. Brody did build the house that we live in; however, much of the material used was different from what we ordered. For example different hardwood and tile. Whenever we asked for quotes on material changes we wanted, Mr. Brody repeatedly gave us outrageous prices that we subsequently found to be inflated. While he promotes himself as a custom-home builder, we found him resistant to help us customize our home.
