This business is unethical. They overcharged and overquoted for work at our business. They claimed $30k worth of repairs were needed and threatened building code violations etc. Numerous other electricians told us this was incorrect including the fire marshall. In addition they hassled and abused our accounting manager calling her before and after work. Stay away. Filing a complaint with BBB.

I went on your website to find an electrician for a small job in my kitchen. Father and Son’s Electrical called me immediately and said that they could be out to my house for the repair the following morning. That initial contact was great and they were sensitive to the fact that I needed someone in a hurry. They told me that they would charge me $40 (they are running a special) for the visit and then $95 an hour. I was in agreement with that so we scheduled the visit for 7am the following morning (2/20/18). The electrician called me a bit after 7 to tell me he was running late. I was ok with that as there was heavy fog on the road and I told him to be careful and I would see him in a bit. He arrived a few minutes to 8 and by the time he got in the house for me to sign him in my kitchen clock said 8 am. He did a very good and thorough job and had everything working and was completed right at 10 am. I was happy that it only took the two hours and he brought everything to his truck and then brought me my bill which I paid and signed and he was on his way. The bill seemed high but the gentleman said that they would email me a receipt so because I was already an hour behind I knew I could review the bill details later in the day. I reviewed the bill that same afternoon and discovered that they had charged me for 3 hours of labor instead of the 2 that I thought they would. I initially did not think it was a big deal though and I called in to let them know that I thought there was an error. The first lady I spoke with was nice and said that they did not prorate the service time and that this was written in the contract. While I understand that concept I did not think for a minute that you could work for 1 minute into the hour and still get charged for the full hour. After speaking with her a bit she put a gentleman on the phone who I believe is the “Father” of Father and Son’s Electrical and he proceeded to be a bit aggressive with me about the time and that they have GPS and that they know exactly when he got there and when he was done. All I know is that he left my kitchen with the work done at 10am. I absolutely admit to signing the bill at maybe 10 minutes after 10 am but all of the work in my kitchen was done at 10. The “Father” continued to argue with me that his employee had worked after 10 and that I should have understood that he would be paid the full hour since that is in the contract. If this is true that you can work a few minutes into the hour and get paid for the full hour that is the worst pay policy I ever heard of. I know no industry where this is the standard. What worker would not slow down a bit when they are closing in on the hour and work a couple of minutes after so they can get paid for the full hour. This also puts the customer at a distinct disadvantage as we are completely at their mercy with absolutely no recourse except to stand in the dark in your house without electricity. It also occurred to me that although they were completely willing to charge me a full hour for a “minute or two after the hour” of work why am I not allowed to deduct the full hour that they were late to arrive at my house to perform the work? I absolutely do not blame the gentleman who came to my house as he did good work for me but fair is fair and whatever he did that I cannot validate after 10am is something that I am not willing to pay for. I also question you Angie's List if you would allow the businesses that you represent to charge customers for a full hour when they work a minute or two after the hour. Now the customer and the service person are not on equal footing in the performance of the service. They can work as slowly as they want to and you will have no recourse? If they charged for the quarter hour or even the half hour I would not like it but I could understand that. What I cannot understand is working for a couple of minutes and getting paid for the entire hour. I would like them to credit me the hour. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT want to talk to them again and I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT want them to try and call to discuss this with me. I will not do business with them again based on the way I was spoken to by the owner who did not even try to let me speak and understand my point of view about this situation. Angie's List - I would also recommend that you tell the providers who are on your site that this practice of “not prorating” their service time is not a practice you will support as it takes complete advantage of your customer. As I said in the beginning the work done was done very well but if you are thinking about using this company you should make sure you monitor every minute and watch what your service person is doing every minute that they are in your residence as a 5 minute window can add $95 dollars to your bill!!!

I paid over $300 to have my doorbell repaired, and the job wasn't even finished. I still have to go back to Home Depot to buy a part and install it myself. I would not hire again!

Electricians arrived timely (I was late) but my spouse was home.   Electrician tried to market whole house surge protector (Eaton) to my spouse who didn't know we already had one installed on the electrical panel mounted behind the panel cover which by the way was purchased through Angies List Good Deal from MI Electric out of Huntersville, NC in January 2013.   It was not obvious that it was already installed. Irregardless, this was not in the scope of the work being performed by Fathers & Sons Electrical and should have not been brought up until I arrived home around Noon that day.    I agree with Fathers & Sons Electricians that a Whole House Surge Protector is a good idea.   It had been already been taken care of by me a year and six months earlier.    Had I been interested, I would have inquired at the time their work was being performed.

"This work was performed on June 4, 2014, not September 8, 2014 as noted on this review. Our price of 432.25 for two outdoor GFCI outlets with bubble covers is a really good price. In addition, this customer used a $200.00 coupon that she only paid $99.00. The whole job actually only cost her $322.25. That equates to $161.25 per outlet. (Good Fair Price) This type of review is a good example as to why Father and Son Electric Service Co., Inc. no longer services Angie's List members. We have found many of them to be unreasonable, demanding and cruel in the manner in which they present reviews. We have worked hard for 32 years to have a good reputation and please our customers at all times. We have discovered that you can not please cheap, unreasonable, and over demanding people."

Got the work scheduled right away that was only a few days out. Chris arrived on-time and did an excellent job. He worked really hard and did a professional job. My only complaint is the cost is higher than a number of other companies, so the "big deal" doesn't have as much impact as one might think. $125 just to show up and then $125 per hour to get the work done is not outlandish, but most of the electrical contractors I've worked with in the past have the service call $$$ count towards the first hour, then the hourly rate begins after that.
That said, when he was done Chris said that repeat customers get a substantial price break, which would be welcome.
Net is he did a great job, was very professional, and scheduling was not an issue - I just thought the cost was high since others seem to be able to do the job for less. With the repeat customer price break, it will probably fall in-line with everyone else.
I would use them again.

I called and told them than I needed a fan outlet installed in the ceiling and a duel box to run the light and fan separately.  He does a little bit of work.  He drilled a hole in ceiling and hits a stud.  He figured out he had to go to the store because he didn't have the wire to run the light and fan and a switch cover. The workmanship was good.  The bill included a service charge.  I called and talked to the owner.  I asked about the service charge and he said it was because of gas.  The service charge was the same as the hourly rate, of $85.  He said he was going to deduct a hour half.  I asked about the time about finding the stud.  Everything I asked him he had a smart alec attitude.  I will not them in the future.
