They came out to test our brand new 50g hot water tank since it doesn’t produce enough hot water for three 5min showers. Manufacturer gave us this plumbers name since they are associated with the manufacturer. They ran some tests, told me that it’s normal for a 50g tank to run out of hot water after 10min and then I received a bill in the mail for a few hundred dollars. I called and spoke directly with Dan and he was very nice. I explained to him our expectations and the experience we had, he said that they would order a part and install it since he agreed that we should get more hot water than we were receiving. He said they would have the part in 2 days. Never heard from him again. I called 3 weeks later before we m and left a message for Dan. Chris called me back, scheduled time to come out and never showed up. This happened 2 more times before Chris sent an email that they weren’t coming out. No call or text... just an email. Really poor customer service; specifically around communication. Find a great plumber that delivers on what they say and communicates effectively.

I DO NOT recommend Daniel Hefner plumbing. The absolute worst service I have had for any house job in the 9 years living in Charlotte I originally called Bill Hefner plumbing early Tuesday (12/20) morning before Christmas upon the recommendation of several neighbors. They had me text a picture of our busted water heater which was leaking all over the floor and into crawl space and promptly told me we would need a new heater. They couldn't realistically do it before xmas and we were referred to Daniel Hefner plumbing, apparently Bill's cousin. The woman I reached at Daniel Hefner was very pleasant and told me that while they were busy this week they could get someone out on Thursday to look at and replace our tank if needed. I reported the information gathered from Bill Hefner and that I was almost certain we needed a new tank. I was assured if they couldn't replace it on Thursday at that visit they would come back first thing Friday morning and replace it. A technician came out on Thursday morning quickly looked at the tank and confirmed yes it was busted and we needed a new one. He didn't have a replacement with him, said it would need to be ordered and he wasn't sure it could be done before xmas. He seemed confused as to why I thought it would have been replaced that day (!?). He told me to expect a call from the office with more details. After not hearing anything for a full day I called the office and spoke with the same woman who indicated she would need to talk to the scheduler Steve who was away from his desk and one of them would call me back. After again waiting several hours and hearing nothing, I called them back and finally spoke to Steve. After expressing my frustration at a lack of communication regarding our water heater replacement he said they would do it first thing in the morning (Friday) but he couldn't give me a quote. At that point I said fine, we need a heater, and to please have them plan on coming with a quote in the morning (husband was not happy about this but we had not had any hot water since Monday and I was starting to feel desperate). Friday morning rolls around and nothing. By 10:30 I call the office again… and am told by Steve the tech has picked up the heater and should call me before they arrive shortly. By 12:30 still nothing. I call again and am told very rudely that I am being squeezed into the schedule as an emergency case and they will get to me when they can. (We were originally led to believe on Tuesday there would be no issue doing the work by end of week…if they were so busy I would rather we have just been told upfront so we could find another plumber. Instead we were stuck waiting on them.). I forgot to ask again about the quote bc at this point I was just panicking about having the work done on time. Techs (different from the ones who came the day before) arrive around 2 with no quote (!) and quickly realize the wrong size tank was ordered and it won't fit in our space. They leave to pick up a new tank, promise me it will get done today. At this point I'm so angry I can't call the office any more. Husband calls to get a quote and tell them what has happened. He is told by the woman that I told them we didn't need a quote so they didn't get one (not true). He asks them to get a quote for us or don't bother doing the work. He gets a call back shortly after with a quote of $950 and is apparently told that Steve informed me of this yesterday (he did not). Clearly there is major miscommunication going on in the office. I understand this is a busy time of year, but this is no way to treat customers. I would have much rather been told upfront there would be issues with fitting us in this week rather than being mislead. On Tuesday, I still would have had plenty of time to find another plumber. I feel I was mislead and also lied to especially given the office told my husband I said things I did not (not needing a price quote) and they did things they did not (giving me a price quote). Highly frustrating experience. I will not he using this business again.

They were a bit late in arriving in arriving to do the work due to some emergency work for another client.  They did do a good job on installing the water heater and didn't try to make me purchase additional equipment that wasn't required like some other companies did.  And to make up for the lateness they didn't charge extra for some of the piping and attachments that were needed.

I made an agreement for them to come out and work for 2 hours for $225. I was billed months after the work for over $600! They did poor work. They ruined the laminate when they needed to cut out 1/4 in of wood from underneath the counter to fit in the dishwasher into the slot. The dishwasher lasted only 3 days before pulling out of the screws and another plumber had to come out and redo their installation work. I had to call them back to fix their work on the sink as well, as there continued to be a leak, and the spray hose was installed incorrectly. It got stuck every time I tried to use it. I would not recommend their services, it felt like very rushed work and very poor quality workmanship.

He came in with a snake unclogged the toilet and was only there for 5 minutes. The two men that came in had the most gross looking boots on and came walking through the house.

The Angies deal was for a 10 year warranty, 50 gallon gas water heater. The water heater supplied has a 6 year warranty. When I questioned Mr Hefner, he told me that the ad was mistaken, that there were no 10 year warranty water heaters and he did not know why the deal, listed one. As my old water heater had already been removed I agreed to accept what they had. . When I asked him about Lowes and Home Depot advertising water heaters with longer warranties, he stated that they were not worth the paper they were written on and that there were no manufacturer 10 year warranties. To research this I went to Ferguson plumbing supplies where Mr Hefner' company gets their water heaters and I asked they sales associate if they had any 10 year warranty water heaters and he said yes. They sell Stateline brand water heaters that come with a 10 year warranty. As I had never heard of these I asked about there quality and reliability, and he said they were a top quality heater. He also  said they were about $150.00 more than the 6 year warranty Rheem brand that I got. Mr Hefner sent me an email stating he would extend the warranty for 10 years which struck me as odd since he had previously stated longer warranties were not worth the paper they were printed on.

This experience is exactly what I was trying to avoid by using Angies' List.

Two other minor issues, the original estimate included installing a "drip leg" on the gas line, which the installers found was already there when they removed the old heater. I was billed for its installation but had to follow up with them to get that cancelled, the installers did not report that themselves. Also a one-half inch shutoff valve was to be replaced by a three-quarter inch valve for better water flow, this was not done but also not charged for..

I purchased their order through Angie's List. Then I called them and asked them what they charged per hour. They said that they charge $125 an hour and then $100 after that. I thought that this might take a little longer so the math would be pretty good. When they came out, I also had them do an install on a water filter in my garage; they put that in. It took them about twenty five minutes to do that. When they finished the project in the backyard, they just replaced the water spigot. That's all they did. They put a new water spigot on there. There was one on it that my son had put on about a month earlier. It was brand new but it wasn’t completely correct. The guy asked me if I wanted him to use the same one. I said that was fine because it's brand new. When I went back there after they left, I couldn’t find the attachment. They must have taken it because they put a new one on. I couldn’t find the other one, so they must have taken it. When I got the bill, they charged me for parts. They charged me an extra $195. So I called them and asked them why they had charged me an extra $195. I told them that I got this through Angie's List for $175. So she rebilled me again at $155 and the parts were included which was only $18. I figured it was for the pipe pieces they used in the garage to install the water filter. When we figure it out, $155 plus $175 is way over $300. It would have better if I had them use $125 plus $100 for the extra hour. So I don’t feel like I got a really good deal at all. I figured that when I called her and told her over the phone, she would say that I was right and that they shouldn’t have charged me $175. $175 plus $155 was $330. I figured that she will tell me that they will send me the difference, but they never did. She never said anything about that at all. It should have been $225. That's a little bit of difference there. So I figured in the future, I will just use somebody else. The guy was nice. But he asked me if they could use the same part and then they didn’t use the same part and they take my brand new old part with them; I wondered why they did that. If they were going to put the new part, why would they need the old part because I could have used it in the front yard. I have to go buy a new part for the front yard. I wasn’t happy about that. I didn’t get a good deal on that whatsoever. In the future, I will just use somebody else. They did good work. I just wasn’t happy with the price.

Realized our water heater was 20 years old and perhaps not in keeping with current code.  Got estimates from a couple of companies.  Chose Daniel Hefner because of recommendation from my neighbor as well as Angie's List. Cost was slightly less than other company, but the service was particularly good. Came out to give a correct estimate first and then came exactly when arranged to do the installation.  I plan to use this company for all my plumbing needs.  They are great.

I discovered a leaking water heater in my crawlspace.   Since both water heaters were 15+ years old, I decided to replace both of them.  I initially called Rightway Plumbing to come out and disconnect the leaking heater and give me an estimate on replacing both heaters.   Once the repair work was done, their estimate for replacing both heaters was approx. $2200.  I called Angies List to get several more recommendations and called four more for estimates.  Most of the estimates were  $1600-$2000.  Daniel Hefner's estimate was $1200.  I am VERY pleased with their work and their price.
