Watkins Landscaping removed a tree from my front yard whose roots were growing wildly underground and pushing against the foundation of my house. The landscaping team was timely and worked professionally throughout the duration of the project. The tree and its roots were removed without issue or complication. They then stabilized and seeded the soil and clean the work area thoroughly. I would definitely hire Watkins Landscaping again.

I thought he was just going to clean up 4 piles of leaves but he went above and beyond and ended up removing all the leaves from the yard starting from scratch. I was happily surprised!

I wish I could say good things but my experience was terrible and gave me extreme levels of anxiety. What should have been a 2 week project, 3 - max, turned into over 2 months. Even now, Octavius’s promises to take care of my lawn for the next year, he’s abandoned without communication. I’m not even sure he has an actual lawn crew; he mowed it once and has disappeared. I was going to suggest his services for simple 1 or 2 day projects, but his disrespect has changed that opinion. Where do I start? I had a retaining wall put in, and he said it would take 3 days. 4 weeks later, the wall was finally finished. There was a period of rain 1.5 weeks after the start of the project, but he had 1.5 weeks to get rolling. Excuse after after excuse. Something with his daughter caused a 3 day delay. One of his crew got bit by fire ants, so none of the crew worked for 4 days. One of his crew stole one of his trucks, so that was another few days of absence. It’s all pretty unbelievable considering that even when there were no more excuses, he still didn’t show up. I was his only project. Octavius did not show any initiative in planning ahead. As a result, he did not source plants that I asked for, he did not provide enough materials as stated in the quote and covered it up, I have poor soil, not enough mulch, and the sod has died in places because it took more than 24 hours for him to lay it in late June. Communication? Ha, good luck! Perhaps it’s because I am a woman, but he doesn’t listen. He would either forget or flat out promise the world, and then absolutely ignore it. He did not provide everything that I asked for, claiming he did not quote it. I requested plant plans; he didn’t provide them. “I have an idea of what I will do.” Even when I gave him plans, he ignored them. And he didn’t provide plants in front areas as quoted - he mulched in an area that was to be sodded, presumably because he ran out of sod, from? That’s right! Poor planning. as the project continued to drag on, I requested time after time plans for the day, expected completion of items, even just when he and his crew would be working, and I would get little back, if anything. How do you ignore you client when they are asking questions? I deducted from the final bill, but not enough. I know I lost on this project. Speaking of sod, don’t expect him to grade, even if it’s in the quote! The most he’ll do is buzz down whatever is on your lawn, spread out a thin layer top soil, and hope for the best. And weed prevention? Nope. He also is not following state law when it comes to irrigation systems. He links it up to your home water meter. State law mandates that irrigation is hooked up to a new separate meter. Now why was it my friend who told me this and my landscaper had no clue? I also asked what kind of water bill I was looking at with an irrigation system I didn’t even want. He said it would be minimal because my yard is small. My water bill has gone from $40 a month to $140. It’s outrageous, and now I will be using an irrigation system I paid for as little as possible due to extra cost that I was told would be minimal. Money. He had me front load most of the project within the first two weeks. He requested money beyond the terms set when I was still hopeful it would work out, and I now know I was preyed upon. I am so disappointed and angry with this contractor. He seems like a nice man and makes every promise imaginable. And just DOES NOT DELIVER. I wish fired him, but he had most of the money for the project, and I knew if I did, I’d never see my money back. His is sneaky, disrespectful, and a liar, but in the nicest way, which is even more insulting. I am reporting him to the better business bureau as well, since he has failed so much of this project. Do not hire him.

"Hi, Im Octavius the owner of Carolina Lawnscapes and would like to respond to this review. I first off thank Angies list for the platform to respond to reviews and to give my point of view. I would like to apologize to Ms. Keagan for the way she feels its never my intention to make a customer feel terrible with their experience with my company, with that being said, I like to say its fair for Ms Keagan to be upset about the job taking a lot longer than it supposed to have taken. A lot of things happened along the way. I want to say though the retaining around her pool that was 65ft x 90ft x 4ft high. would have cost her well over 15k considering everything was worked by hand because no machine would fit in the areas where we had to work with. She said she didnt get good value for the money spent, I disagree. She 14k for a retaining wall(dimensions above), we took down her fence that was crooked and not installed correctly and put it back up correctly after the wall was completed. I didn't disapear she sent me an email telling me she didn't want me on her property ever again. Not only did I design a nice landscape for the pool area, I started to buy the shrubs. She rejected what I planned to do and told me that she was going to just rip it out anyway. She received sod which I did prepare the soil/ground for. I built her a hardscape planter at no cost, I transplanted plants for her as well and she say she didn't get good value for her money. I mulched her yard also added a irrigation system but she says she didnt get good value. We had to wheelbarrow all the dirt into her yard for three days because there was no space to work with a machine. This is some of the reason it took a lot longer and may I add her newly installed wall is completely level at every point! My communication with her only stopped when she became rude and would say ugly comments. I decided that would be the best course of action to finish the project. I finish the project and made sure she was happy with it before receiving the final payment."

4/16/2020 Called 803-590-0995 & he was in the area/able to come out right away to meet. We discussed that I had a lot of standing water in front of a new deck so I needed drainage/grading to take the water away from the area. He would grade the area so that it slopped away from the steps, install a large catch basin that would take the water down hill to another area in the yard. I explained there was existing draining that he had to be careful of so it had to be manual trenching. He wanted to use corrugated/perforated pipe. I asked that he instead use PVC because it would last longer. He said it would cost more & I was ok with that. I just needed an estimate and potential start date. 4/17/2020 called about estimate. 4/20/2020 estimate received/confirmed when he could start. 4/23/2020 he texts that he will be dropping off supplies & starting work using a different #803-230-5570 & this is how we can get him because the other # is angies list and not him?!? 4/24/2020 he arrives. Instead of 1 large basin there are 2 small. Instead of using all PVC, he says he has to have flexible pipe to make a turn (vs using all PVC with an elbow connector). The area was trenched. The pipe went straight down in the trench, gravel laid on top & sand was poured over the area with grass seed. He insisted that anyone that put dirt over it was doing it wrong & that the water would not drain into the pipes. I figured well, maybe that was how it was done years ago, maybe there gave been process improvement. I didn't stand & hover over him. I just checked back ever so often. When complete he said it was a lot more work than he thought & there would be a slight increase. I thought it was only fair/reasonable. 4/25/2020 It rains. Sand has washed away. A lot of it in the basin. The area has flooded far worse than before. 4/26 & 4/30 we text/call with pictures-no response. 5/1/2020 we text again & he responds. He suggests that the heavy rain was the cause -can't help that. should have used sod to cover the area. I'll come out once more to clear the area & add more sand. Ok...but IF we should have, why was that not mentioned or part of the estimate of work? It only takes a little bit of water in the yard and it's a repeat situation. Certain areas the rocks are completely exposed and the basin has sunk. We attempt to contact him again. Eventually he responds. At this point, I tell him that the drains need to at least be cleared because the drains continues to get clogged with sand. It took him a month to finally answer & come. During that month I was constantly removing sand from the basin and flushing as much as I could. Fast Forward 7/1/2020 the 2 basin have continued to sink. I have still been removing sand & the rock area is completely exposed. Its not draining properly. My lawn service is complaining about the area since they have to manually weed the area vs use the mower. I have someone else take look at the work because he was pretty clear that none of it was his fault & he pretty much wasn't going to do anything else. After pulling up the drain, we discovered 1) There were no rocks below the drain or basin install -why it continued to sink 2) No sleeve on the PVC or corrugated pipe -why it continued to get clogged 3) the corrugated pipe was running uphill for 5 ft-why it wouldn't drain as quickly. Two months after the initial install, all of it had to be redone. Initial Estimate: $1,093.62 Final Work Cost: $1,165.62 And no, I would not hire him again!

"Hi im the owner of Carolina Lawnscapes. First let me say that I'm sorry your experience with my company wasn't what you expected. I will say that I put two to three drains in a week, its something we specialize in and have never had and issue. To be careful of the other drainage in the yard I personally hand dug the whole drain. The homeowner want to use all 4"PVC which I did except in one area. I put and extra box in because everyone knows in drainage that and box would allow for another quick exit for water to go underground. I did use about a 5ft section to make a turn a really tough turn and also notified the customer and showed them why I was doing this. Rock and sand are natural drainage aggregates. I have never used a sleeve on pvc because the coverage of rock over the inserts keeps out debris and sand allows for water to sink through to the rock then drain, its the method myself and other professional use. Im a landscape architect by education and studied for over 4 years to be the best at what I do. I have never anyone in a mess, just look at all the other reviews we get especially for drainage. I personally came after really bad storms and one during the storm, talked to her husband and her a literally showed them that it was draining and the was after cleaning out the boxes and pipes where the sand had eroded into the boxes. I came in and fixed the erosion 3 times and also made sure that seen what I did. Never got a call back after that just this review as if I wouldnt or wasn't willing to work with them. Thanks"

Beyond better than advertised! Great attention to detail! Work Is performed efficiently. The job was so good that we hired Octavius and crew on a monthly basis to maintain their job well done! The work far exceeds the prices. Now that we are in these Summer months outdoor and backyard activities are all the rage! Carolina Landscape is the Right Call!!!

This was my first time using Carolina Lawnscapes and it was truly a wonderful experience. I contacted several other companies for quotes, but received no response. It went very well. There was a slight scheduling issue initially, but the communication was great and they took care of the issue by working beyond the time they would normally be expected schedule-wise.
