It went fine. The package was fine. He got back to me on the quote. They ended up not having the same kind of siding but they used a different kind of siding. They were very responsive.

The $450.00 dollar deal ended up being a down payment.  Once I had commited $450,00 I found out that downspouts were extra, a lot extra and the price for every foot of guttering beyond the ":Big Deal" was a premium price as well.  This enhancement cost me double what I budgetted.

He arrived on time at scheduled time.  He walked around the entire house to reattached any loose siding panels.  He came prepared with a ladder so he was able to inspect lower and upper panels.  He checked each window in the house for leaks.  After he completed his work and notified me and we walked around the house inspecting all that he had done.  He even provided me with advise on the things that need to be done in the future.  Very professional service provided.

Started out ok, but contractor had not started on job the week I was away (he had stated he would get started on outside work that did not require doors to be removed).  Work of replacing doors was done all right, but the board nailed up in back of house
under windows was not what was detailed in work order (was supposed to use PVC).  Repair work at soffits was not painted,
and when Sam returned for his money he put paint by front door and slopped on front mat and patio.  Did not clean up.  Did not
complete work on work order (new outdoor sills for upstairs dormer windows, and new sweeps for double front doors).  After the 1st few days, neither Sam or the man working for him ever showed up at the promised time;  one day after being very hot, Sam
stated they would be there the next morning at 6:30 a.m.  His worker showed up at 11:00 with the excuse he didn't know how to set his wife's alarm clock;  Sam showed up about noon.  Later when I was looking for him, he was asleep in his truck.  During all
this,  standing water and mold was discovered in the finished basement where they were installing new doors.  Sam called someone he knew to come out to look at the situation, which he told me he was going to do and I approved.  However, he later
called someone else to come and "remediate" the mold and put up a barrier to the upstairs.  This I did not approve.  By this time the insurance carrier had been notified,  a tester was contacted and came out, Servpro came out, put up more barriers, put in
several dehumidifiers and scrubbers.  When they all came together, Sam did come supposedly for my protection.  However, he
spent most of the discussion time on his cell phone.  When he presented me with his bill, I told him he would need to deduct
money for the work not done.  He stated that $50.00 should cover it.  I deducted $120.00, which still too little.  However, he
then presented my with bills on his invoices from the two men he had come out.  I was told verbally the prior day that the first man
had billed $90.00 for his services, but Sam's invoice was for $125.00.  I was also told that the second man who came out (not
approved by me) billed $120.00 for his services;  Sam's invoice was for $175.00 and $350.00 for Sam's time meeting with
insurance, etc.  These charges are outrageous and the fact that Sam apparently bumped them up even more is a total rip-off.
I paid the bills in full, because I wanted Sam out of my house.  I would never use him again.

"It is true that we didn't start the work when we anticipated, but given that my crew leader died unexpectedly the day before we were supposed to start the job, I thought the homeowner might understand. I made the homeowner aware of this and even explained that I was going to have to take off a day during the job for the funeral. Since the crew leader and I had worked together for years, it was a blow to the company and to me and our families. The times I was on the phone, I was helping my crew leader's mother with funeral preparations. As one might imagine, she was feeling very lost and alone as a single mother does when losing her son. I tried to explain this to the homeowner. As is often the case with remodeling projects, unexpected challenges can occur. Discovering three dangerous types of mold growing wildly out of control throughout the basement level of the home did hinder our progress and halt work. There are rules for handling such challenges and I was faced with first diagnosing and then cleaning up the hazard. Mold certified specialists had to be called in, for the health of my crew and the homeowner. The scope of the work changed, not because I was unprepared or unwilling to complete it, but because the homeowner kept changing her mind. I chalked it up to family problems she revealed she was struggling with, an injury she incurred over the vacation, and the unexpected mold discovery that she suddenly had to consider. In the end, she decided that the sills and the sweeps were unnecessary as she was going to sell her home as a tear down. Nothing in my interactions with the homeowner prepared me for the complaints she leveled in her review. At no time did she confront me or express any kind of dissatisfaction. I wish her the best in selling the home."

Sam, the owner, came to the house to give the estimate.  He showed me the product and explained the various options.  When I called him back with questions based on other quotes I received Sam was very helpful in giving me honest feedback.  The price was right and the approach was down to earth and without any sales gimmicks. Sam came back out to sign the contract.  He was very detailed in writing down all that they contracted to do.  He said they would start the following week but they ran into a snag with their supplier.  He began work on the house as soon as the windows came in.  Despite some difficulties with weather, the house itself, and a family problem Sam and the guys worked hard and got the job done in a reasonable amount of time.  Even though it took him more man hours than expected and cost him more in material than expected he stuck to the contracted price.  I believe Sam is a straight forward guy that runs a straight forward business and I would recommend Carolina Home Enhancements to anyone getting new windows, siding, or gutters.  CHE is the kind of company that is hard to find in today's market.

They did a good job.
We are retired and cannot afford to do everything that needs to be done right now, but they will come back and do another $500 worth when we can manage it.
This house was built in the mid 1990's and the builder used the cheaper siding, as most builders do around here.    We hope to replace it all eventually.
We will call therm again.  They are pleasant and thoughtful

I kind of blame myself for not reading the fine print (2 hours of labor for the price).  It wound up being approximately $100 per hour for labor.
I've had real expert carpenters price window wood work at $40 per hour.
Response from Carolina Home Enhancements
"We are sorry that you feel the price was higher than it should have been. Please keep in mind that Angie's List set the price and keeps half of the fee for the service. With that in mind, this is actually a very reasonable price. Most expert carpenters, like Sam, would have charged $100 for the first hour $60 for each additional hour, plus the cost of materials. We supplied the caulk and some of the wood for the repair at no additional charge and stayed an extra hour...again...at no additional charge. It is always our goal to give the homeowner a little something extra, a little more than they have paid for. We deeply regret that you feel you didn't get your money's worth."

At first the weather kept them from coming over to our house.  But in the end, when they showed up, it was great.  Sometimes people forget that businesses that help you with the outside of your home are at the mercy of the weather, traffic and many other non-controlable circumstances.  So they took alittle longer to get over to my house - I don't mind waiting if I end up getting QUALITY service, which is what I got.  Sam and his crew are great guys that took care of us and helped us out with a big water problem.  The simple addition of a new downspout, now has alot of rain water running away from our foundation.  Thank you guys!!!!  Keep up the good work.

I called Sam, I believe it was on a Saturday and he called me immediately back   After, I emailed him some pictures of the problem he gave me an estimate right over the phone.  I know this wasn't a lucrative job for him by any means but he really impressed me especially after the guy who had originally installed the bay windows wouldn't even take a look at them because the job wouldn't pay him enough.
When any of my other windows need replacing or anything else needs repairing I'm definetily calling Sam Moore from Carolina Home Enhancements.

I am a disabled Vietnam Veteran. I have found, due to age and disabilties, I can no longer do certain projects around my home. With the help of Angie's List, I have found a company that has performed a lot of these projects for me. That company is Carolina Home Enhancements. In the last couple of months they have replaced my storm damaged gutters, repaired my eaves and damaged siding, replaced the water damaged facing around our rear entrance door and performed various plumbing tasks; including removal and replacement of vanities including new sink and bathtub faucets in my bathroom remodeling project. They even took the time to go and purchase the materials we needed to complete the project that we didn't already have.  Carolina Home Enhancements has performed all of these projects with the highest quality of professionalism and expertise. I will be continuing to use CHE in the future for more home projects that we have. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs home projects performed expertly at a resonable price.

I bought an Angies List Big Deal for up to 100 ft. of new gutters from Carolina Home Enhancements for $425. I called Sam and set up an appointment with him to review my needs and concerns for installing the new gutters (I was going to need downspouts in addition to the gutters and had some concerns about the placement of a downspout on the rear of the house). Sam arrived on time and reviewed my needs and concerns. We discussed the placement of the rear downspout and options for how that downspout could be fitted with a corrugated plastic pipe to drain away from the house and patio. Sam told me how much it would cost for the downspouts and additional 20-25 feet of gutter length (over the 100 feet purchased in the Angies List Big Deal). Sam said he would call me when he knew which day he would be able to install the gutters. Sam called me toward the end of the second week after we met and said they could install the gutters on that Monday. I informed him that I would be out of town until the following Thursday so we would have to meet so I could pay him. Sam said he can accept credit card payments over the phone, so that would not be a problem. I told Sam I would call him when I got back in town.
I arrived home Thursday and saw that the gutters looked great on the house. Upon inspecting the downspout in the back I saw there was no corrugated plastic pipe and the gutter ended lower than was necessary for me to be able to attach one myself that would drain downhill to above the ridge on the patio where I wanted the water to drain away from. Sam emailed me Friday morning and I called him shortly thereafter. I told Sam I wasn't sure if I had been clear or not in our first meeting about wanting the corrugated pipe installed with the gutters, but that the gutter ended too low for me to be able to attach a pipe that would drain downhill to above the patio ridge. Sam said he had a piece of corrugated pipe (with a square end that would attach to the gutter) left over from a previous job that he could give me, and said he would come out that day to fix the problem. Sam arrived about 15 minutes late, but that was okay - I had told him I would be available all day. Sam took the gutter apart, cut it shorter, and reattached the elbow at the bottom of the gutter a little higher than it had been. He attached the plastic corrugated pipe to the end of the elbow so it would drain downhill toward the ridge in the patio. I payed Sam for the additional cost of the downspouts and the extra gutter length.
Overall, I am very satisfied with my experience having gutters installed by Carolina Home Enhancements. They look great and Sam took care of all of my concerns.

Due to a windstorm we had a piece of facia blow off the face of our home.  I called Sam to inquire about the cost and repair.  He respectfully responded to my questions and scheduled a time to come out to take a look.  He asked me if the structure was more that 40 ft due to the length of his ladders.  I explained that I wasn't sure, but it was probably close.  When he arrived he was unable to fix it immediately due to the height and location.  He asked to see the piece that blew off and shared that he thought we would be able to re-use it, as opposed to cutting a new piece.  We scheduled a follow up visit when he could have a roofer present to do the repairs.  They showed up on time and completed the repairs quickly and under the original estimate.  Both Sam and his roofer were extremely friendly and responsible.
Additionally, the first time Sam arrived, I told him about a leak in my window.  I explained to him that I thought I would have to replace it.  However, Sam repaired the window for me free of charge.  He could have easily tried to tell me that it had to be replaced, and I would have been none the wiser.
I would highly recommend this company for any services you need.

We hired Carolina Home Enhancements to rebuild our deck.  We were looking for a wood product that wasn?t treated, since we were trying to take a more natural and environmentally friendly approach. Sam Moore suggested a product that he had heard of but hadn?t previously worked with, and the minute we saw the Pure Wood, we knew that was what we wanted.
Sam contacted the distributor and managed to acquire the materials for the job by driving to the factory and picking it up.  We were impressed by his drive and determination to get us the product we asked for.  He even made sure that he had the installation and care instructions directly from the manufacturer prior to beginning work.
We really appreciated how well Sam kept in touch with us during the job.  He even did some extra work around the house, like fixing a couple of the thresholds, and when we saw some cracks during the walk through, he and the crew were quick to replace the boards.
Weeks later we noticed that more and more of the boards were splitting.  When Sam contacted the manufacturer of the Pure Wood, he discovered that they had gone out of business and that the product was no longer under warranty.  So even though it wasn?t any fault of Carolina Home Enhancements, Sam refunded the cost of the product and made good on the job he had undertaken.  In this day and age, it is so nice to see a company make good on their warranty and to keep their word (the way it used to be).
Carolina Home Enhancements truly cares about their homeowners and the quality of their work and we would not hesitate to recommend them!

In 1979-80 my wife and I built our home on a 4-acre wooded lot near Charlotte.  We wanted this new home to ?fit in? with our woods, so we selected vertical cedar siding for our exterior.  We loved the look!
So did the woodpeckers!  After a few years, the woodpeckers found us and attacked the house in an unrelenting fashion!  At one point, there were 21 active nests in the walls of the house.  One has to pay to get a federal permit to legally remove woodpeckers, and we needed to remove them every year.  The cedar siding proved to be an unwise choice.
As did our choice of our last house-painting contractor.  He offered a 30 year warranty on his work.  Unfortunately, the company went bankrupt, the owner went to prison and the warranty was useless.  And his paint job proved to be useless as well, as it faded and peeled badly.
I didn?t feel that repainting was a viable option, as the underlying (peeling) paint would continue to peel.  Removing the paint from the entire house simply was not an option.  So I began investigating other options.
First was metal siding.  I?m sure it would have worked, but our home would have been converted into an industrial building.
Next I checked on James Hardie siding.  I entered ?Hardie siding? in the search box on the Angie?s List web site and found a listing for Carolina Home Enhancements in the Siding category.  Thus began a month-long dialogue with Sam Moore, the owner.  Sam came out and evaluated our home.  He said that he could wrap the house with Tyvac or an equivalent and then apply the Hardie siding over top of the existing cedar siding.  He could also wrap the exterior wood on all the windows with aluminum.
I called a trusted carpenter friend to join me in talking with Sam.  He and Sam could speak the same language.  My friend agreed with Sam?s thoughts regarding what he could do to our house.
Next came a discussion of the price.  I already had quotes for what it would cost to cover the house with metal siding.  Sam gave us a tentative quote which was approximately the same as that given for the metal siding.
So far, so good.  However, neither my wife nor I wanted anything other than vertical siding.  The James Hardie company does not offer vertical siding.  What they do offer are simulated cedar shake shingles.  We finally saw a house that had a wall with the staggered cedar shakes made by James Hardie.  While this did not provide the same vertical look as we had with the cedar siding, it DID provide a very nice appearance which we felt would fit in with our wooded location.  We told Sam that we wanted the whole house covered with this staggered cedar shake product.  What we didn?t know was that this product is functionally six (6) times more expensive than the lap siding!  And nobody locally had EVER had their entire house covered in these staggered cedar shake shingles.
At our request, Sam brought his wife to our house to get her opinion as to how best to cover our house with James Hardie product.  She agreed that covering the entire house with the cedar shakes would look great!  Sam was dismayed, knowing that the cost would be prohibitive.  I suggested to Sam that he give us a big discount!  He smiled wanly, and sighed?  Sam?s wife suggested that they might talk with their suppliers.
Sam talked with his suppliers and with the James Hardie company.  The james Hardie company was interested in this project because no home in this area had ever been covered exclusively with their cedar shake shingles and because our house has some architectural features (curved walls) that presented unique challenges..  James Hardie decided to offer a significant discount PROVIDED they were allowed to supervise the installation!  Hey ? that worked for me!
We settled on covering the entire house with the Hardie staggered cedar shake shingles at a price very close to his original estimate using the Hardie lap siding.
Installation took the better part of two months. The workers were courteous and friendly, and cleaned up after themselves every day.  The James Hardie installation representative met with the workers for nearly two hours on the first day and went over with them exactly how he wanted the product installed.  He visited periodically, inspecting the work, to be sure it met his specifications.
We have a large home, and this was a huge job.  When the work was complete, Sam and I made a final inspection and I made my final payment.  However, there?s no way either of us could inspect everything.  Since the completion of the job, Sam has come back several times to finish up on things that we missed.  One was applying the aluminum cap of a small privacy wall; another was the check and apply additional caulking around the aluminum wrap on the windows.  Lastly, somehow one of the copper downspouts from a rain gutter got lost; Sam replaced it with a new copper downspout at no cost to me.
The one thing that I wish would have been done differently is this:  At the start of the project, Sam and I agreed on very specific things that I felt needed to be done.  Specifically, I was concerned with the application of the siding on our curved walls.  I worried that the tension on the edges of the siding as it wrapped around the curved walls might result in these edges pulling away from the wall over time.  I wanted nails and/or screws into the studs at the edges of the siding to prevent these edges from pulling away from the wall.  This didn?t happen.  Why?  The Hardie installation representative said that the fourteen (14) nails used for EACH piece of siding was sufficient to prevent this from happening.  I?m prepared to take his word for it, but I wish I could have been a part of that decision rather than finding out about it later.  This lack of communication occurred several times.  I would have agreed with each decision made, but I wish I would have had the opportunity to be a part of the decision.
I would definitely use Sam Moore and Carolina Home Enhancements again, and I would recommend him to my friends.
Response from Carolina Home Enhancements
"Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thorough review. We do pride ourselves on giving our homeowners personalized attention. It was such an honor to have the opportunity to work on such an amazing home...the architectural details, the sheer size, the beautiful location. I'm so sorry if you felt left out when it came to making decisions about the installation of the Hardie. In order to have the warranty on the product honored by James Hardie, we needed to complete the install per their directions. Definitely monitor the exterior of the home and please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. We'd love to work with you again, too. It has been a pleasure."

Got several different estimates from different companies on Angie's list, and decided on Carolina Home Enhancements because of price and the Angie's List coupon for 6 hours of labor that was being offered at the time.  Except for bringing the wrong style of siding the first time around, they did an excellent job replacing the siding and fixing a couple of other damaged areas around the house.  I would definitely use them again.
