Bob Dewhurst had the crew cover up my heating and air conditioning vent. They filled it with dirt and covered it with the island cabinet. This caused dust and a white debris to go all over my home. I have asthma and it has made me sick. To have someone put the duct in right is around $500.
I called the man who worked for Bob Dewhurst, and after a questioning him, he told me that he did not know how to do these things. He is a tile man and he paints. I also discovered that he is illegal, like the rest of Bob's employees. I asked Bob Dewhurst if his employees were legal and he said yes, and that he had checked them out. He used two men from Mexico to do the work and then he only paid them $1,500 for their work. He refused to finish paying them for the job and told them if they complained he would turn them in.
Bob Dewhurst is a crook and I cannot believe that Angie's List recommended him to do my job. I thought Angie's List checked the companies out before listing them on their website. I paid to be part of Angie's List so I could find good companies to work for me. Now I have a disaster. I want my kitchen finished and everything done that I paid for. Plus I want you to get this man to hire legal people to finish my job.
The crew appeared to be in over their heads. When they hooked up the plumbing for the new shower, they reversed the hot and cold water supply pipes, so that when we tried to take a shower in the upstairs guest bath, in order to get hot water we had to turn the faucet to Cold. Eventually this was fixed. Cleanup at the end of the day was unsatisfactory, and one day a large empty trash barrel was left in the middle of our bedroom, a wet hoodie was hanging from a door, and a thin film of dust covered every surface in our bedroom. We were never sure when the crew would arrive in the morning or leave at the end of the day. One day of the first week they left for good at about 2:00; the next day they were gone for about 2 hours, leaving us without running water for about 6 hours, and they took a day off, which the contractor told us about belatedly.
When it became clear that the master bath would not be completed by the promised date, my husband told the contractor that he estimated that during the first 4 days, the crew had worked the equivalent of 2 days. When I added that I'd heard the crew tell their boss that the bathroom would be finished in 5 days, he became irate. He called me a "Nervous Nellie" several times, said that he was a professional who could not work "under these conditions," and accused me of standing over his crew and listening in on their conversations; neither was true, and in any case the crew spoke to each other in Spanish, which I do not understand. The contractor said "Nobody in this town does what we do!" and added that they could stop work at that point so we could find someone to finish the job.
On Friday, 11/6/15, the contractor arrived and had a closed-door meeting with the crew in our bedroom. When my husband went in to check, the contractor promised that the shower doors and toilet would be installed by the end of the day. I said that I was very disappointed, he said he was disappointed, too, and wanted me to be happy. When it was clear that I was not happy, the contractor slammed the door as he left. When the crew left, they had installed the glass shower doors, which do not close at either end, but had not installed the toilet. And there was another wet hoodie hanging from the door.
On Saturday 11/7/15, my husband sent the contractor an email requesting a meeting to discuss our concerns. On Monday 11/9/15, the contractor sent an email stating that we should find a handyman to finish the job. There was no explanation. He has not replied to subsequent messages, which included a request that he deliver the shelves to the new linen closet. We are left with an unfinished bathroom, with no toilet, no sinks, unfinished drywall, and an unusable shower. And we will have to find someone to finish the job and correct mistakes.
