Kent Frerichs functioned primarily to hire non-english speaking, low skilled workers to come install siding on our house, and collect the checks. I had to point heinous errors in miscutting boards that had to be pulled off and redone, Kent did zero managing, that is all up to you to watch things like a hawk. The unskilled workers pulled the electrical meter off the side and tripped HVAC breakers either by shorting wires due to incompetence or for ease ( unsafe either way ). I'm an electrician so I fixed the damage myself. It was a nightmare and I feel like an idiot paying this guy around $30K. The painting was done with the skill of a 14 year old kid taking up a summer job. The gutters were done by a different group of 2 guys and they did good work. I would highly advise not using Belk Builders, it may have been better many years ago, but Kent evidently bought the name and is fairly useless once you've signed the papers. Use at your own risk.

After many interviews and estimates we decided to go with Belk builders and boy we are so glad we did.. Kent was attentive to concerns and helped with solutions. They replaced the siding and windows on our 64 year old home. All of the crews were professional and had great attitudes and work ethics. We can't say enough what a pleasure it was having them perform the work. If you are looking for a true professional and knowledgeable group Belk builders is the way to go. Thank you Kent...We now have the nicest house on our block!!!!!!

We had a very trying experience with Kent from Belk Builders. He was not honest about his mistakes or willing to own up to them. We want to make sure others have true information before doing business with him because we had a really tough 3 months for a project that should have been two weeks. The only positive is he did have a crew leader name Claudio who we came to respect for his hard, high-quality work.

"I was contracted by customer to build a two story porch/overhang with railings, etc. on front of home. After numerous discussions, pictures, e-mails, text messages from customer a design was agreed upon with colors, style and materials to be used and contract was signed. Footers for porch were dug and concrete poured which passed Mecklenburg County building inspection. Framing of porch was constructed and also passed building inspection. After about two weeks passed we started finishing out roofing, posts, porch beams, ceilings (finish work), etc. Homeowner came home from work and told us to leave as she did not like the way porch was framed and wanted us to modify. I explained we can not just cut out structural beams for safety reasons. After several weeks of discussion a new design was agreed upon and framing changed with a new county passed inspection. We then continued finish work on porch. Homeowner then wanted to change an agreed upon design of porch railing/pickets. I told homeowner the design would not pass inspection because of the lack of pickets and safety reasons. She demanded we build her design with upgraded cedar wood and of coarse Mecklenburg County did not pass homeowners design after we built porch railing/pickets on their home. I explained to homeowner these are county rules and have to be followed for safety reasons and new corrected porch railing/pickets (my design) were built and passed county inspection. Homeowner then refused to pay the last $14,000. until the failed inspection porch railings/pickets were built back to the design they picked out. Homeowners are more concerned with appearance than safety for their children and others. I was forced to build back a failed county inspected porch railing/pickets by homeowner to receive my last $14,000. Homeowner also refused to pay for thousands of dollars of changes made to porch and upgraded materials that were changed from original signed contract."

The Belk Builders team did a fabulous job installing new vinyl siding on my 119-year-old home. They were prompt, responsive, courteous and focused on doing the best job possible. I would highly recommend them and will definitely call them again.

My husband and I hired Kent to remove our old original siding which was falling apart and replace with new vinyl siding. Kent was very fast in responding to my initial quote interest as well as anytime I needed to ask a question or follow up on something. He was very nice and professional - he even had dog treats to give to our lab who was on high alert & very protective since we had just welcomed our new baby home a few weeks prior. Kent was also very helpful in helping me pick out siding and shutter colors to match our roof since picking colors is hard for me. Claudio and his workers were very punctual and kind. They worked hard and cleaned up after themselves every night before going home. They ran a magnet every night as well to pick up any loose nails or screws if they dropped any ( this was very comforting since we have a toddler who loves being outside). Kent visited every day they were here working to get updates and to see if there was anything we had questions on etc. When Claudio and his workers found wood rot on our fireplace I was notified immediately and was shown the damage. They replaced the rot and fixed any issues. They even came out a day later after I emailed them - 2 months after install - when we noticed a shutter being crooked. Claudio came by and fixed it in no time the next night. Overall, this was our first big home renovation experience & we couldn't be happier. Our home looks great and we know it was done right so it will last a long time. We would hire Kent & his workers again in a heartbeat, which we hope to do when we are ready to replace our windows! We continue to get compliments on our siding months later. Thank you Kent & Claudio again!

Replaced all existing original 40 year old wood siding with Hardie siding and any fascia boards and wood needing replacing to install new gutters. Additionally added a new front portico and side overhang porch and extended and widened existing brick front steps as well as replacing the front door.

We hired Belk Builders to replace old masonite siding with Hardie Plank, and replace old gutters and downspouts. The company performed all work beautifully and on schedule. Our house has been transformed - we have received too many compliments to count. In addition, Kent and his crew were highly responsive, keeping us informed about all aspects of the job. They even notified us when they identified problems with our new roof, and helped correct those problems. Belk Builders is an A+. We would highly recommend the company to anyone.

I continuously received updates on when the project will be started, and on the day promised, the crew showed up. They worked efficiently, fast even, without mistakes and leaving no bits and pieces behind them. The project continued onto the next morning, and they showed up as they said they would, promptly at 8am. The crew vacuumed all remnants of the work done. My husband took advantage of the crew's ladder to ask to redirect two flood lights that had become dislodged and one crew member did that for us - so kindly. We are extremely satisfied with the work done, and as this was a subset of all our windows, we will rehired them for the remainder.

Kent and team were honest, professional, and hard working. Their price was the most reasonable of all estimates collected given the scope of work. Any issues that arose were immediately addressed and resolved. The home looks beautiful and we regularly receive comments on the exterior work. We had several quotes from several builders over the last year or so. Belk Builders had a very reasonable and competitive price. They were not pushy and did not try to oversell us but made sure we knew what all of our options were. Kent was super nice and really responsive to our questions and requests. I had windows put in at a lot more expensive and a lot bigger. I bought and sold 2 houses in the last 9 months. The first house I bought I went with someone else with a more expensive window, and I was not nearly as happy. These people at Belk Builders are first class. It's a good product and they are good installers. They cleaned the windows, which doesn't seem like much but they didn't clean my first windows. But they cleaned every one of these windows before they put them up. They actually had to go out and buy some siding to replace because some of it was pretty brittle and when they started pulling some of it down around the windows they broke it. They didn't stop and ask me for any money. He stopped and went and got his own siding and j channel and everything he needed for the job. They came in Friday morning about 8 o'clock, by Friday at 2 o'clock in the afternoon they were gone; cleaned up and beautiful job.

Last fall, I broke down and took $ out of my 401k to get it fixed. The other roofers said it needed to be slanted. He wrote up everything. He said he was absolutely sure he could fix it. He sent a worker (who didn't speak English very well) to do the work. I couldn't get up on a ladder to see the work. The guy took the roof off and I didn't realize he put it back on flat. They put on compressed wood and put planks and pieces of wood up there that has been since falling off. I told Kent it wasn't right. I tried to be fair and thought he would stand behind his word. When it rains, it still leaks and has as many as 6 places that leak now. If I knew he was going to put it on flat, I wouldn't have done it. He said he would reinforce 5' foot above where they meet. His last email said he doesn't do roof installation and he subs it out. He never told me he subs it out. I called every time it rained and he said he would send someone out. His guy would come out for about 5 minutes and put some type of asphalt over it and leave. He has not responded back to me since May 11th. The carpentry and the leaking are both bad.

Come to find out the water she was seeing on her floor was leaking out from the bottom of her plant pots. This was occurring during the summer months when it had not rained for three weeks at a time. Kent was doing work in my neighborhood and solicited my business going door-to-door. After checking them out online, I asked them to put together a quote for the work that needed to be done. The next day, Kent's sub-contractor, Tate Helms, came out to check the siding for wood rot and estimate the material needs. I had a quote within days of my initial meeting with Kent.
Once the estimate was accepted, work began right on schedule. Tate spent a couple of days doing the siding repairs and then power washed the house and porch. The painting crew arrived on Wednesday and had all of the work done by end of day on Thursday. Tate came by on Friday to do a walk around with me and touched up a couple of spots that the crew had missed. Overall, they did a great job. Everyone with whom I worked throughout the process was friendly and very professional. I would happily use them again.
