Rod at A to Z Pools is a rare find. He knows about pool equipment and takes the time to explain it. But above all, I have been blown away by his responsiveness and attitude. Rod seems to genuinely care about taking care of the customer and doing the job right.

Rod is OUTSTANDING and goes "Above and Beyond" to provide quality service!!! We used A to Z Pools to perform an inspection when we bought our home over 6 years ago. He clearly explained every issue that we would have to deal with after purchase of our home and provided us with recommendations and pricing. He converted our system to salt water chlorination right after we bought the house and we LOVE IT!!! I’m typically a DIY guy, but Rod has sincerely earned my trust. Even when I've tried my DIY approach to pool maintenance, he has rescued me time and again. In fact, just this last week my main pool variable speed motor went bad. I tried to fix it myself and failed miserably. Rod came to my aide and hooked me up with a GREAT replacement option on short notice and now my pool is back in operation…THANKS Rod!!! Another evidence of trusted service is the fact that he only performs repairs when absolutely necessary. An example of his persistence in service excellence is that sometimes pool repairs have to be performed with it is blistering hot outside, but he pushes through the heat and performs services above and beyond expectations. Just to be clear, ANYONE who would complain about Rod's services clearly does not understand the loyalty, commitment, trust, and experience that he brings to the table. What business would happily refer business to their competitors in the interest of helping a potential customer? No-one can be "all things to all people" and expect to deliver the level of excellence that most customers in any industry have come to desire. However, Rod is the kind of guy that will do his best to deliver customer satisfaction even if it means a competitor referral. Rod, thanks for your heroics in the pool industry and keep delivering your outstanding standard of excellence!!!

This company was hired by prospective buyers of my home to inspect my pool and related equipment. Unfortunately in the inspector's subsequent report to those buyers, he made some false or otherwise misleading claims, 1) that my filter is not capable of handling the PSI generated by the highest speed of the pump, and 2) that there are excessive metals in the water that pose risks to the equipment and need urgent treatment. I don't know whether his claims are made in ignorance or in an effort to alarm the buyers into buying his services. But he's not trustworthy. I'd recommend instead hiring Lake Norman Pool and Spa for all water testing and pool equipment maintenance; I've used their services for nearly nine years.

The pump went out last week. I tried our regular pool company but they couldn't come out for a month. I tried a couple others and got the same response. So I went on Angie's List and found A to Z. He answered the phone when I called and said he could come out within a couple days. He was very honest explaining all our options and we decided on a new pump. Our pump is no longer manufactured but he had one still in the box in his warehouse which he gave us a great deal on. He came back this morning and replaced the pump, also giving me more tips on the most cost effective way to maintain the pool. He was very honest and actually told me to order new filters on line as they would be less expensive than what he could sell them to me for. I am more than happy with the service. Rod and Anthony are great and they are my new go to people for pool issues.

Rod was/is very responsive. Very thorough in checking the pool and pump. Provided a lot of information. I plan on using Rod for future maintenance. Glad he provides a "pool class" as I am a 1st time pool owner. He was also nice enough to look at the hot tub. He is a small company and it is evident he takes pride in his work. Lucky my realtor recommended him! Thanks again Rod. :)

We were very happy with the service we received. Rod is very knowledgeable, and eager to educate his customers. He explained the issues we have with our pool, and how to best work around them. He also offered that we could call or text any time we had questions (which we have taken advantage of on a few occasions). I feel much more confident in understanding how our pool works, and how to best care for it. We will definitely use this company as other minor (and major) issues need repair/service.

The opening went well. Weather issues during May contributed to delays in getting the salt system installed completely to my satisfaction but I'm glad I has it installed.

As described above, we were completely thrilled with the service we got from Rod and Terri. They have been awesome for us to call for whatever we may need for our pool. I can and do recommend them without reservation,to everyone I know with a pool that wants a reliable, sharp and reasonably priced pool service company.

Rod came out to open my pool this season as scheduled and performed the initial service. However, after a couple of weeks the pool never fully cleared and eventually turned green again and i had to call repeatedly to get him to come shock it. As far as i'm concerned, the job i paid him for was never completed. He even charged me the second time for the shock to reclear the pool. I have called and emailed him and he hasn't replied since. He clearly knows what he's doing, but his communication and scheduling are poor.

"I did indeed open this client's pool and after pool was clean and ready, I sent a bill for $225. He sent me a check for $250 by mistake. I called to let him know this. He thanked me and ordered a bucket of shock and a bucket of 3" Tabs. I told him I would deduct the overpayment from those two items, which I did. At no time did he tell me that he was unhappy with the opening. He does have a pool that if you don't stay on it, or if it rains a lot, it(the pool) can get away from you and I have a feeling that is what had happened in this case and maybe a level of pool frustration has set in. Every pool is different and I do know him very well. I have gone to great lengths to explain to him what he needs to do in order to maintain a pool that he can enjoy. I do this with all my customers whether they use my regular cleaning service or not. I have to say that I am surprised by this report. Once I open a pool and the customer doesn't hire me on a regular cleaning basis, it's up to the pool owner to maintain proper water balance so that the pool remains clear and sanitized. I truly believe I have fulfilled my part of the deal we agreed upon."

Rod and Terri started working with us after a couple of unhappy experiences with other pool service companies. They have been great from the beginning. We have had a couple of small glitches through the years, but Rod and Terri have always dealt with any issues promptly and well. They are respectful and reliable. They have also helped us find good contractors to help us with the services they don't provide: masonry, pool refinishing, and replacing the heater.

We shut the pool down. It wasn't the fault of the pool service, because they have done the work, there is something wrong with our pool.

A friend of mine had a terminal illness and was given up to 3 months to live. One of the things he wanted to do the most was to sit on his deck and just look at the pool. I gave A to Z a call and spoke with Rod. I explained the circumstances, asking that they open the pool but send the invoice to me. Rod thought it would be Monday before they could get to it, but called back to say he had arranged for it to be done the next day. Three months turned into three weeks for my friend as he passed away one week after his pool was opened - but thanks to A to Z, he was able to spend some of his last days as he wished. Not only were they very professional, but compassionate and accommodating as well. They are just simply fantastic.

SO-SO. CALLED ROD AND HE WAS VERY BUSY AS ALL POOL SERVICES WERE IN THE BEGINNING OF JUNE HOWEVER HE WAS ABLE TO GET OVER TO SEE US IN ABOUT A WEEKS TIME. AFTER LOOKING OVER THE POOL AND EQUIPMENT IT WAS DETERMINED WE NEEDED A NEW FILTER. ABOUT A WEEK LATER A NEW FILTER WAS INSTALLED AND THE POOL WAS CLEANED AND GIVEN START-UP CHEMICALS (EXCEPT FOR CALCIUM WHICH WAS TO BE DELIVERED "THE NEXT DAY") THIS IS WHERE THINGS STARTED TO GO DOWN HILL FOR ME. THERE WERE LEAKS WHERE THE FILTER HAD BEEN CONNECTED AND THE ORIGINAL LEAKS WERE STILL THERE. GETTING ROD TO COME BACK MEANT WAITING ANOTHER WEEK OR LONGER AND SEVERAL "PESTER" PHONE CALLS. WHEN HE DID COME BACK OUT TO FIX THE FILTER IN HIS HASTE HE FORGOT TO ACTUALLY APPLY THE GLUE TO THE PIPES WHICH WHEN TURNED ON THE NEXT DAY IMMEDIATELY BLEW APART. THIS STORY GOES ON and ON THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS: ROD and WIFE TERRI ARE VERY NICE PEOPLE TRYING TO DO WAY MORE CUSTOMERS THAN THEY CAN EFFECTIVELY HANDLE. THE LEAKS STILL HAVE NOT BEEN REPAIRED

"I'LL START THIS BY SAYING THAT THIS WAS AND STILL IS ONE OF THE NICEST CUSTOMERS WE HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE OF DEALING WITH, EVEN WITH THE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK SHE LEFT US. THE MEMBER HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THE POOL AREA, SOME OF WHICH WERE NOT APPARENT UNTIL WE REPLACED CERTAIN EQUIPMENT, MAINLY THE NEW FILTER. THE PRESSURE WAS RUNNING HIGH AND IT TOOK US LOOKING AT THE PROBLEM AT DIFFERENT ANGLES TO FINALLY DETERMINE THAT HER POOL HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ORIGINAL UNDERGROUND PLUMBING. WE THEN INFORMED HER THAT THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WAS TO CHANGE PUMPS. (SHE NEEDED LESS HORSEPOWER.) WE, AS A COMPANY, FELT LIKE WE SHOULD HAVE SPOTTED THIS FIRST AND OFFERED TO PUT IN ANOTHER PUMP AT OUR COST. THE MEMBER, BEING THE NICE PERSON SHE IS, WOULD NOT LET US DO THAT AND OFFERED TO PAY HALF, WHICH WE AGREED. A DAY WENT BY AND SHE CALLED TO LET US KNOW THAT SHE HAD TALKED WITH SOMEONE ELSE ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY TOLD HER THAT WE HAD INSTALLED THE WRONG SIZE FILTER. I TOLD HER THAT IF SHE BELIEVED THIS INFORMATION OVER OURS THAT WE WOULD INSTALL THE BIGGER FILTER AT NO COST TO HER, WHICH WE DID. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM OF HIGH PRESSURE WAS STILL THERE EVEN AFTER INSTALLING THE BIGGER FILTER. I FELT THE FRUSTRATION COMING FROM THE MEMBER AND FEEL THAT MY WIFE AND I DID EVERYTHING WE COULD TO TRY AND ACCOMMODATE HER. WE TRY VERY HARD TO PLEASE ALL OF OUR CUSTOMERS AND WE WISH THE MEMBER WELL."

Things have gone wonderfully. Rod and Terri are very nice, efficient, knowledgeable, and timely. If they say they'll be here, they're here. They've got our water looking picture-perfect, and are helpfully finding a plumber who will touch a pool(which is harder than you would think!) to fix a blockage near the pump which they can't get to themselves. We were going to have them come out every third week or so, but not having to deal with any of the work or running to get chemicals, etc., led us to ask them to come out weekly!

I have used three different pool services in three years and had poor service with each one. I turned to Rod and Teri in desperation. My spa and pool cleaner were repeatedly malfunctioning in spite of multiple service calls and replacing multiple parts. I just wanted a clean, working pool and spa. I have been extremely pleased with my new service and have had no more trouble with a functioning cleaner or spa. They are great!

Rod is very accessible, and knowledgeable. I've had such difficulty finding a pool company that I can depend on, especially on short notice. He has always been available for any questions I had, which is the complete opposite of my previous pool company experience. He is very flexible, and will do weekly, bi-weekly, monthly visits; or even just chemicals (which he delivers to you at reasonable prices). Very good experience.
