Lloyd Fencing

Following the recommendation from Angi's List, I contacted this "pro." Brian Lloyd came to my home on Monday, July 5th, examined the project, and offered to repair my chain link fence for $450. I accepted. He asked for a $225 down payment which I could pay by debit card if I telephoned his wife, Tiffany. I telephoned Tiffany, but she advised she could not process a card payment because she had not yet received a card reader. Tiffany suggested that Brian could stop by my home and pick up a check, and I agreed. Mr. Lloyd did not stop by my house on Tuesday for the check, and when I telephoned him on Wednesday, he told me the materials he'd need were more expensive than he anticipated and said the project would cost me $550. I agreed, and he said he'd be by to pick up my check. Mr. Lloyd did not pick up the check on Wednesday, and on Thursday, he sent me an "estimate," which he asked me to sign and return to him. I did, and I offered to make payment in whatever way would be most convenient. But on Friday, July 9th, I received an email message from Mr. Lloyd in which he stated, "Can't do the job so sorry for the Inconvenience." Mr. Lloyd breached our contract and was belligerent when I telephoned him on Friday to ask for an explanation. When Mr. Lloyd said he was having "family problems," I asked when he could do the job. He replied that he would not do the job. When I pointed out that Mr. Lloyd had reneged on his promise, he accused me of being racist. (We're both white.) I asked Mr. Lloyd to reconsider, but I have not heard from him. I can provide for your information a copy of the Angi's List cost estimate, email exchanges between Mr. Lloyd and me, and the signed Lloyd "estimate." This is the first time I've used Angi's List, and given this experience, it's likely to be the last.
