Apr 2011
Gerardo and his two man crew removed all shoe molding first, then replaced the water damaged 3/4" X 2 1/4" red oak hard wood flooring in the laundry room. They then meticulously machine and hand sanded the floors throughout. They used a vacuum system connected to their machine and hand sanders to minimize the dust during the sanding process. After sanding they used a buffer with a pad to smooth the wood even more. They then vacuumed all the floors again and then damp/tack mopped to make sure all the floor dust was removed. They stained the floors with a hand mixed Min Wax stain to match previously installed pre-finished flooring and let them dry overnight. After staining the floors and replacing the shoe moulding, they applied two coats of oil-based polyurethane. The first coat dried for about 24 hours before being roughed with a buffer. They repeated the cleaning process with the vacuum and mopping before applying the last coat of polyurethane. They are very detail oriented and fastidious about making sure the floor is clean before staining and putting down polyurethane. The floor is flawless. It rained quite a bit the week they were applying the polyurethane. We waited approximately 36 hours before entering the house just to make sure it was dry. Just to be safe we are not planning to move our furniture back in for two weeks. That may be a little overkill but if you're going to go to the trouble of refinishing floors you don't want to mess them up. The floors are absolutely beautiful. We could not be more pleased.
