Tonya H.
Jul 2011
Jay consulted with us in a "getting to know each other" visit without charge. He listened carefully. He had the traits we liked in a person we would be working with for several months on our house plan. His portfolio was diverse and impressive. His business contract was easy to understand. We were able to see examples of his designs in person. He gave us examples of his pricing so we had a good idea of what our costs would be.
Jay had a very good relationship with the builders. We had meetings together on and off site. Jay drew several schematic designs, then the design development plans, and finally the construction documents within a few months of our first meeting. We began construction within 6 months of our first visit with him.
Jay has an artistic eye demonstrated by such details as slanted and angled ceiling details( even up to the skylights) which provide visual interest, careful placement of lights in such work areas as the kitchen which drew compliments from the electrician.
The house is passive solar design which uses a raised concrete slab in which Jay designed carefully placed stress lines to make the slab appear as large tiles. It is difficult to look at the garage floor and realize the concrete on the floors in the house is the same product only stained and waxed to produce great variation in depth and color. We were able to use hardwood in one room, cork in the kitchen and heated tile in the bathrooms.
Jay was available by phone, internet, and in person when we needed a consult on or off site. He respected our budget guidelines and helped us economize without sacrificing quality.
