This person was referred to me by my realtor. She had raved about him, but I should have listened to my gut when, in fixing my front door, he removed all of the hardward, deemed it unfixable (which we had already told him), then left us with no way to close the door for hours...well into the evening. I believe he finished the project around 10 pm. He would come at odd hours, never when he said he would. He gave us an initial estimate, and the bill far exceeded this. When a preliminary bill came in high, we questioned his time and essentially fired him. We figured he would have had to have been at the house 40 hours per week for this - and he wasn't - we never saw him. After firing him, we knew we would owe him for some additional time that he had not billed. We estimated that the remaining bill would be for approximately $400, or ten or so hours. The bill never came. We kept asking for it, and wanted receipts to go along with the our repair expenses. Never came. The day before we closed on the house - THREE MONTHS LATER, we were about to sign the contractor affidavit that there were no outstanding bills - couldn't do that because Bill had never sent the bill. I suppose this put the realtor into action, because we then received an email invoice for 1399. And, he said that the invoices were at his accountants and he could not give them to us. Hmmmm......Additionally, when you look at the man hours he is charging for tasks, it is clearly inflated. Six hours for screens, 9 hours in patching holes.....just not possible. But when you are about to close, you are over a barrel. His dishonesty just galls me, nonetheless.
