Troubleshooting was precise, but TV couldn't be ecenomically repaired

Before dropping my TV off, I asked about pricing and how long it would take. I was told it would be about a week before they'd be able to get to it, and that there was a $30 charge to look at it. That $30 would go toward the cost of the repair, if I did have them repair it. Dropped the TV off on a Friday. On the following Thursday, I was called and told that the problem was the power board and that they'd be able to fix it rather than replacing it, and they gave me the cost for the repair. I told them to go ahead with the repair, and they said it would be ready for pick up later that afternoon and that they'd give me a call when I could pick it up. Overall, a good experience. I'd recommend them to anyone who's having any video, audio, or computer problems.

Brought in two units. There was a $30 fee for each to have them evaluated and an estimate prepared. This fee is nonrefundable, but is applied to the cost of any repairs made. Received an estimate in one week, as promised. Replacement parts were ordered and repairs were completed one week after that, also as promised. (2 weeks total)
The repair of the home theater DVD unit was fairly expensive, mostly due to the cost of OEM replacement parts. Unit works fine now. The repair of the other unit was relatively inexpensive and also is quite satisfactory.
ALR Electronics is a great resource to have in the area. It was well worth the drive from Durham to the far side of Chapel Hill. It turns out that you can actually get electronics repaired. (You still have to do the cost benefit calculation.)

It was a very good experience. They charge a flat fee for diagnosis at which point you can decide to have the repairs done. If you do, the diagnosis fee is applied to the cost of the repairs. Ultimately, they were able to fix the tape deck and fix it well.

He's got a very reasonable approach to taking on the repair of electronics and I wouldn't hesitate recommended him to somebody and I just used him a few weeks ago. He's able to fix speakers and receivers. He does TV work and I think he does some computer work, specifically I can't tell you exactly what but I saw those there. He's pretty adept at working on electronics and he has a nice storefront. It's clean and he's personable. I felt the price was more than fair and I would use them again.

I think they did a good job and I was happy with what they did. I don't know about price because there aren't that many people around that fix electronics nowadays.

The problem had previously been mis-diagnosed by one of Samsung's local authorized repair depots, Consumer Electronic Service in Cary, which I later found out sports a Better Business Bureau rating of "F". I brought the TV in to ALR. ALR promised a diagnosis in a week, called with the diagnosis in 3 days, and had the TV repaired only 4 days after I originally dropped it off to them (although I didn't pick it up until a week had passed).

They do good work, are slightly slow because of being so busy. They do honest good repairs.
