"Thank you for the awesome review!!"
"We appreiciate the feedback!"
"We did not do this work; there is a review from this same person in 2014 describing the work we did and none of it included painting cabinets."
"This is one of the few people you just cannot please; It started when we were hired to put together a deck kit that was purchased by home owner and we were hired to correct work that was already done on the deck. The home owner purchased a 30 hour package from us and was upset because the deck wasn't complete in two days and he had overage in materials and time(That he refused to pay) If you feel like you know more about construction of your project and think you can do it quicker, please do, and don't call us."
One good things is when we told them about our complaints, they did send in a new team to re-do everything. And the work overall turned out ok (not perfect, but passable). But for the amount of money we paid, it is ridiculous what was accomplished (very little).
We purchased the $1679 week of home improvement coupon, understanding that we might go over based on our requested needs. They finished the bathroom, and the other drywall/paint job, but the slats in the garage never got hung out since they said they were missing pieces (my husband ended up doing it himself!).
Seems like this company uses the "deals" to get in the door, then they charge by the hour. In the end, you get screwed on cost. Fool us once. If you do decide to use them, ask for their A-team upfront, and get a quote and make them stick to it.
"The hourly deal is a 30 hour package that can be used to do multiple projects or one that may take multiple companies to do but only takes one when you call us. Everything above the 30 hours goes to our normal rates that can add up quick if you keep stacking things on. I understand everyone wants more for less but that is not the case in life, you get what you pay for."
"We were happy to service and glad you took advantage of our hourly package deal; Let us know if you wants us to come and clean up slate or take care of any other repairs! Thank you for your business. UR Team"
"We were happy to return to this house for long term renovation of the whole house, this was another project here that went smoothly; Thank you for your continued business! UR Team"
"A Canadian pre packaged pergola with paper instructions does not always piece together as advertised( and having the video the first day instead of the third would have made a huge difference) and also should not be thrown together quickly. The pre purchased 30 hours was used up and there were additional time and materials that needed to be paid and written explicitly in the contract. Being unhappy with a foreign product or not meeting an unattainable time table is no reason to smear a company's reputation that has hundreds of happy and reasonably expecting clients."
The estimate with the owner went well. He and I walked around the house to go over my list of items. The repair/scrape/caulk/paint portion was pretty extensive (lots of raw trim and fascia, gaps in siding, and exposed window trim and sills), so I pointed out all the areas I could see from the ground, and made it clear that I was looking to have those issues corrected over the whole house. He took notes and provided an estimate on-site, and said his office would follow up with an official contract.
Contract
The office sent me a contract which had some errors (incorrect number of shutters, didn't include some of the items we discussed during the on-site estimate). After a couple back-and-forths, we got it ironed out and signed.
Garage drywall patching, cat door siding
The drywall patching/painting and siding replacement was done quickly and looked good.
Shutter replacement
After we accepted the contract, I had a question about what color the replacement shutters would be. As it turns out, there is only a single standard green (so there was no color selection). That was fine, but I asked several times, and never got a response until the workers actually showed up to do the work 2 weeks later.
The first day, the workers took down the old shutters, then found the replacements were out of stock. They estimated 10 days to get them, and left the old ones by the side of the house. 20 days later, I hadn't heard anything, so I contacted them to ask about the status. They were still waiting for them. It ended up taking 24 days before they were installed. I understand waiting for an order, but they should have contacted me to let me know there would be a significant delay.
The workers left the old shutters, and I had to ask them to remove them.
In the end, the replacement shutters were installed well and looked nice.
Repair/scrape/caulk/paint trim, sills, fascia, porch rails
When the workers arrived, they didn't understand the scope of the repair/scrape/caulk/paint portion of the job. They touched up a few places, and thought they were finished. I had to print out pictures of all sides of the house and mark all the areas I could see needed repair (these were the same areas I had pointed out during the initial estimate). Even with that, many areas were left undone, and I had to print pictures and mark them up a second time. Even with that, another walk-through showed several places that needed to be addressed. The work was eventually done to our satisfaction, but took far more time and involvement from me than I think is reasonable.
Even once they knew the scope of the painting work, the workers didn't bring the right equipment, had to borrow my ladder repeatedly, and come back multiple times because they didn't have a long enough ladder.
Workers leaned ladders against the siding with no padding to prevent scraping. Some paint scrapings were left on the roof and on the ground. Some work was sloppily done (trim paint brushed onto adjacent shutters, caulk smeared over cracked paint and left unpainted, paint scraped off of trim left rough instead of being sanded smooth)
From the time work started, it took 52 days and 5 visits before the job was complete. I was repeatedly told they would finish up on the next visit, only to have the workers leave with work undone.
Follow-up:
The owner proactively contacted me after this review was posted to apologize for the miscommunication, and make sure we were satisfied with the work that was done (we were by that point). He was professional and courteous as we went through the list of issues I had with the job.
Warranty coverage:
About four months after the work was done, we noticed a few things that were missed (a couple window sills that couldn't be seen from the ground, etc). The contract came with a one year warranty, and they were responsive in coming out and taking care of the things we found.
Paint was alright - not terribly detailed and required a lot of daily review/requests for completion of work or correction of errors (still have some trim pieces painted house color)
Deck was a nightmare - and is becoming an even worse outcome as time passes - we will need to hire someone to fix their work only eight months after project
Wood cracked and splitting after just eight months (was stained prior to drying at insistence of contractor)
Lacked professionalism
Cash payments required, must request documentation numerous times
Stained entire load of new wood, then announced it would look terrible with house - they'd be ashamed to install it (forced re-purchase and re-staining of new load of wood - which was lower quality product, rushed and incomplete)
Contractor insisted wood be stained prior to installation, which we questioned thinking it needed to dry out for a summer - now we have splitting wood posts, floor boards, seating, as well as pieces swelling where the stain was not applied to all surfaces prior to installation - looks worse in nine months than the deck we tore down that was 15 years old
Scheduling was a mystery - no proactive communication about when to expect workers, what to expect for stages of progress, how we were tracking toward completion
Communication was very challenging
No communication around reviews/approvals prior to "final" punchlist (so you constantly have to check in and ask about incomplete or wrong items)
Time to completion was more than three times estimate (six weeks estimated; 20 weeks actual)
Cost was 32% over budget (including extra cash payment required beyond contracted amount after completion)
"(member name removed) We will send someone by to fix this problem; it was something we intended to fix, but was forgotten in the hustle and bustle. Please email [email protected] so that we can set up a good time to have someone there to take care of it."
We also had a couple of rotted wood support columns on a backpoarch replaced with a non-wood version and had the porch area repainted a couple of months earlier. Again, they did a very good job on that project also.
