Very disappointed in Underwood Tree Service, Inc.. Robert, the owner, was the first tree service operator to respond, so I had him over last January to trim, remove trees, and grind stumps. After the grinding the stumps were covered in large mounds of dirt and dust, which they don't remove, so you can't see how deep the stumps are ground down. Before he left, I asked him how deep the stumps were ground under the mounds and he reassured me that they were ground well below grade or he would return for more grinding. I recently dug down into the mounds and found that the stumps were not below grade, which he said would be the case when I agreed to have the service done. Robert has not followed through with coming out to inspect, re-grind, or make it right after multiple calls and texts with him. Unfortunately, I can't move forward with hardscaping in my front yard until those stumps are ground down like he said they would be.

Excellent, professional work. Andy the Arborist met with us twice to review which trees needed to go and which trees could stay and still give us the result we wanted. The crew arrived early each day and worked efficiently. Several huge oaks required a crane to lift sections over the house as well as a section of fence removed. Once the trees were removed, the fence was reattached exactly as it had been before they removed the section. The stumps were grinded and shavings removed. They cleaned up and left no extra branches or remnants behind. Will definitely hire them again when needed.

They are very customer oriented. They ask me for a review on their work. They clean up the job site. They have removed 32 stumps for me. They have always emailed me ahead of time and called me a half an hour before they arrive.

a six man crew showed as scheduled and completed all the work in a couple hours. the job was professional, and they did a great job cleaning up afterwards!

The owner, Robert Underwood, provided what we asked for, a more than competent crew, great estimate and insurance certificate. Everyone that we dealt with was punctual, professional and happy to be working for Underwood Tree Service. Tony and his crew arrived and were very good at performing the work, cleaning up and also taking the time to do everything right; they did not rush the work and did a complete job. We will definitely use Underwood Tree Service again for any trimming or tree work in the future!

The crew was professional and prompt.  They performed their service in a timely manner and made certain that I was happy and satisfied with the work performed.  I highly recommend this tree service.

a large tree (and 4 smaller trees) was uprooted during a storm in July 2013.  the tree fell across our small pond and on to a fence.  insurance would only cover the part of the tree that hit the fence and a portion of the clean up of debris.  Underwood Tree Service Inc. cut up the large tree, removed from pond, hauled away large sections and ground up the smaller debris.  they also hauled away the 4 small trees (trees were cut down, sectioned, and limbed by land owner).  all work was completed within 3-4 hours.

A winter ice storm hit our area causing trees to fall.  I used Underwood before.  Price and service seemed reasonable then.  Called him to cut up and remove a roughly 30 foot pine that had toppled.  It appeared that a combination of rot at its ground base and the weight of ice caused the pine to simply topple over.  Underwood's crew arrived on time and did a reasonable job. Cleaned up the site nicely.  No problem there.  Issue is his price---$400 is about twice what the job should cost.  I paid the invoice and discussed the price with Underwood's job site supervisor who advised he would carry my negative price related message back to the owner.  There's been no follow up from Underwood. 

My bottom line: Seems to me that this case looks to be more like a price gouging opportunity by Underwood right after an ice storm.  I've been happy with Underwood's price and service  in the past, but will never use him again.

Great experience.  Underwood Tree Service was competitive in price with 2 other companies.  I had purchased a 'big deal' so I saved several hundred dollars to have a large tree removed that was close to our house.  If I need additional tree service in the future I would use this company again!

The price and quality of work was excellent. They arrived around 9 AM with two trucks, bobcat and 3 workers. The job was done by 3 PM with little or no damage to my yard.

It turned out okay. we had a hard time getting together but once we did, he came and he did the job. He did what he said he would do.

The workers wasted no time. They were extremely professional and efficient. Each worker knew exactly what to do, they were like a well-oiled machine. They dealt very professionally and respectfully with my many questions, requests, and videography/photography comments while they worked. They did a terrific job of cleaning up after themselves as they worked and afterwards.

Estimator came to view trees I wanted cut, and recommended many more be cut...600$ each. I thought that was high. Agreed to have one more tree taken down as I needed it removed for a future project I am working on. Estimator said he would call to schedule
appointment for service. Tree cutters showed up next day unexpectedly and informed me it was too windy and they would set another appointment. They showed up several days later unexpectedly again and said they were ready to do the job. I moved my truck and they did a great job, quickly taking the trees down and chipping. They also cleared the drive of debris. My husband said it was the best clean-up he had ever seen!

We had Underwood Tree Services come to the house in December, after purchasing the Angie's Deal.  When we explained what we wanted done, and further explained that we had purchased a $600 deal for $299, we were quoted an additional cost for the work that we wanted done, and that was recommended to us.  We were told that the work could be done, perhaps, before the Holidays, but probably sometime after, maybe the first of the year.  We began calling after the first week of Jan. to inquire as to the procedure date.  We had a great deal of difficulty in reaching/hearing from Mr. Underwood, but the work was finally complete sometime between the 6th and the 8th of Feb.  Besides the price, which ended up being $700 (or $1000, based on the "Angie's Deal), which I thought was somewhat high, the job was beautifully done, and everything was cleaned up well.  The technicians were very professional, and extremely pleasant.  Mr. Underwood is a very professional and pleasant man also, and we have recommended this service to family/friends.

I responded to an Angie's List "Big Deal" -- tree cutting for $99. I thought that would be enough to get my big beautiful Bradford pear tree trimmed, and if he had time left over, maybe he could also trim two crape myrtles in the back yard. However, when Mr. Underwood showed up, he said it would cost more than that. Having already spent the $99, I said OK.
A week later he came back with several Spanish-speaking workers and told them what to do. Then he took off and was never seen again. I had told him and them about how I wanted the tree trimmed back, but they didn't do it as I expected. Instead of pruning from within to get out weak branches, etc., they basically just topped it, which I know is not good for trees. But it was done. The guys came to my door and said they were to collect the money -- $375 -- and they had to have a check as they did not do credit cards. I paid them, but I felt cheated. I could have had Davey for that money, and they would have done a better job.
To add insult to injury, they stuck a sign advertising their business in a far corner of my front yard, without asking. Needless to say, when I discovered it I pulled it up and threw it away.

Took a chance on this tree service since it was listed on Angie's List.   Actual work was well done and rather quickly.  Other parts of the experience did not go as well.   Owner Robert Underwood set up appt to come out and look over job and quoted more work, which we considered.  Time line as follows:  12/19/2011  Robert Underwood came out and looked over work and told me how much coupon would cover and what else he recommended.  12/20/2011  spoke with Robert and gave decision to have
just work coupon covered done.  Told to call back for an appt.  1/2/2012  Took 3 calls to connect and tell them scope of work.  Still nodate.  Wanted to wait and combine with another job since ours was small.  We were ok with that.  2/6/2012  Came home from a walk and found crew in yard preparing to do work!  No notice, no call, just there.  Crew was quite efficient and did an amazing job!  The official tree guy astounded us with his proficiency and professionalism.  Branches were lowered carefully and the house was never in danger of being hit or damaged in any way.  Limbs and leaves were chipped on spot.  I stayed with them and he checked to make sure he was taking off what we wanted.  We disagreed on one tree that Robert had said would be included, but the worker said he wasn't told about it and so it was not done.  2/15/12 Robert called and left msg to see if we were satisfied with work and did it meet expectations.  I called him back to tell him the disagreement over the one pine tree and that they were here barely an hour.  He told me travel time was included in the job, but that he would put the pine tree on a list for them to come out and take care of.   I haven't heard from or seen anyone from Underwood since and the tree is still awaiting pruning.  They were here for not quite an hour and of that time only  25 mins of actual trimming.  They did chip limbs and clean up well.  The actual work and cleanup was beyond reproach, but the other problems would keep me from using them again, which is a shame!   One question I do have however is why no tree tar so the branches pruned don't grow back?  Strange.  I guess the resulting work was exemplary, but to have to deal with all the other things is just not worth it! Seeing as how the owner was involved all along, I find it hard to believe that another experience with them would be any different.
