The engineer from RB came to my house, introduced himself and explained what he would be doing during his inspection. He encouraged me to follow him around and answered all my questions. Used a laser level to measure the sag in the floors, and got into his coveralls to do a thorough crawl space inspection. He provided a short list of contractors who they have used or foundation and drainage work. I recommend RB Engineering. They are up front about the nature of the service provided and the price for that service. They show up when they say they will, and do what they say they will do in a courteous and professional manner.

Very well. It was easy to make an appointment with Ron Bittler. He came out the next week and assessed the situation. He explained to me what needed to be done to rectify a few low areas in my floor. He then offered me two options - to either pay him for the written structural engineering report outright and then I could hire a construction firm specializing in this work (he gave me a few recommendations) or he could subcontract out the work to another company and provide project management for the whole job. I opted for the latter and was very pleased. The company that did the foundation repair (added 6 piers and leveled several others) was Advanced Structural Repair. While Drew Vallery came out for the initial estimate, Carlos Barahona was in charge while the actual work was completed. I was very happy with Carlos and the overall crew that worked on my house. Very professional and Carlos ensured the job was done right the first time. He treated my house as if he were working on his own. Very, very happy with Carlos.

It was excellent, on time. They responded and gave me a letter within a week and I was very happy with the result. It's the first time I had to use them and they came through.

"Thanks for the good rating Todd. Based on our records, the engineering fee for this project was $500 - which is what we typically charge for a local foundation inspection. Thanks again!"

He asked me about my areas of concern and evaluated each. Ron turned the report around quickly per my request. Would definitely recommend for anybody who has structural concerns about a big investment such as this.

Contacted this company to provide a complete structural engineer report for our new home which was built in 1910. They have a lot of experience with older homes and we felt very comfortable with them from the start.
Jessica Kimes was our project engineer. She is very professional, understand what she is doing, is able to explain everything very well, listened to all of our questions and was extremely helpful. She completed a full scale schematic for us to provide to our contractor who was completing the necessary work. She sat down with our contractor and explained everything she found, explained exactly what she was requiring to complete the work, and answered all of his questions. She even spent time emailing and texting him and us when we had questions or concerns.
She completed a follow-up inspection once our contractors were finished and she found 1 item not completed and required them to return and finish it to her specification before she was willing or able to supply us with the finished paperwork.
She did not come back for a final inspection once that job was done, but upon the word of our contractor, she submitted the final paperwork to us with their stamp of approval and completion.
We will definitely hire them again should we need to.

Very punctual, informative, knowledgeable and professional. Great communication, from start to finish. Quick turn-time on results letter. Very satisfied with all aspects of this experience. Also (added bonus) - great to see women, in a male-driven field.

Prompt and courteous but inexperienced and bad advice that we did not follow. Detailed report was in disagreement with 2 other structural engineer consultants and advice was based on erroneous electronic measurements that simply did not make sense. Said kitchen was sinking and needed more lifts ...it was not and did not need more lifts..which would cause more wall cracking. This was why we called the company in the first place. Found out later that her company was in business with foundation lifting company in some manner via referrals . The female structural engineer sent to us was a relatively new hire plus student intern. Book smarts maybe and nice but not much else. Waste of money. Date above is an estimate, was 2 yrs ago in summer. Don't recall exact date but can not submit without full date.
Response from RB Engineering
"I was sorry to hear that we did not meet the client’s expectations for this project - as we strive to meet and exceed client expectations with every job that we perform. We are always happy to answer client questions and perform follow-up site visits in the event that our findings are unclear. To date, I am unaware of any follow-up correspondence from the client regarding our engineering report. In response to several of the issues raised in your review, please see below: 1. The site visit was performed in June 2012 for a total cost of $600.00. 2. The site visit was completed by a licensed professional structural engineer (PE) and an EIT, the EIT of which is an engineering graduate and not a student intern. Both have master’s degrees in structural engineering. 3. We reviewed two other engineering reports that were provided. Both engineering reports noted the cracks in the kitchen and one of the reports specifically addresses the bearing wall support issue stated in our report. 4. You mentioned that our measurements were “erroneous” and “did not make sense” – we use the same standard equipment for every site visit. Any questions as to how we arrived at our measurements would have been gladly explained and clarified. If necessary, a follow-up site visit could have been performed to re-survey the residence at no additional cost. 5. We did make recommendations to provide supplementary floor support to the kitchen due to deflection of the framing members. We specifically stated not to jack, level and shim in the repair plan in order to avoid causing more cracks in the interior as you were concerned about. 6. We are not in business with any foundation company and do not receive any compensation for referrals. We have worked with many of the companies in the area and we provide our homeowners with referrals based on who we believe would be best for the job in question and who would provide the best quality work and fair price."

I like the way Ron conducts his business because he keeps his engineering services separate from his repair business, so that means that his repair recommendation is not going to be something that supports his repair business. After Ron provided the engineering report, he provided me with 3 qualified construction companies which I contacted to solicite bids on the recommended repair. I consulted with Ron after receiving the bids and decided to run the work through Ron and he handled coordination of the subcontractor and city permitting process using his general contractor's license, for a small additional fee.
The whole project went very smoothly and quickly. The permit was granted within 2 days, the work commenced within a week, and the was completed within a few days. The subcontractor was extremely accommodating, professional, clean and prompt. Ron also inspected the work prior to the city inspector to ensure the work was done in accordance with his recommendation.
I highly recommend RB Engineering.

Overall I was satisfied with the service provided by RB engineering. I spoke with Ron on the phone and provided him with an overview of what I wanted to have done and he provided an estimate for they work.. He also told me that they charge windshield time so since I live in Clayton - 40/42 area it was a little more.. Since i was anxious to get the work done I wasn't looking for the cheapest price I went with RBE. They were very quick to arrange arrange an appointment and provided the report and repair plan a few days later. The invoice ended up being a little higher than originally discussed but I don't think it was unreasonable.

I can't say enough positive things about our experience with Collette of RB Engineering. We're selling our home and the buyer asked to have a structural engineer examine and make repair recommendations. I called (and Collette actually answered the phone) and once I explained the urgency of the situation she pledged to go out to the house and check things out. We were out of town at the time so this really took a lot of stress off of us. Not only did she head out the next day but she also called me to let me know her findings in advance of the report. She was also able to put me in touch with a great contractor (Dwaye Fails of Fail Safe Construction) to get the work estimated and talked him through some questions he had. The entire experience was fantastic from start to finish. Collette even went out of her way to call me again to make sure the contractor had all of his questions answered. Nobody wants to have to do foundation/structural repairs but if you find yourself in this position, I highly recommend RB Engineering. Thank you Collette for making this such a great experience.
