It's very clear from their business style, words and actions that Jimmy, Kathy, and their crew are committed to customer satisfaction, quality service, and maintaining a solid reputation. Being that we were very particular about how we wanted things done, and the fact that we were jaded after our previous experience with a bad contractor, we were not the easiest customers to deal with. Jimmy did not let that bother him and in fact went above and beyond our expectations both to ensure we were pleased, as well as to help us restore some trust and confidence in his industry generally. That is, he made it his mission to show us that there are in fact dependable and trustworthy contractors out there. When Jimmy first came to look at our job, the first thing he said was "I am so sorry to see that this happened to you."
The workmanship and professionalism of his crew were amazing. The first thing they did was come and clean up our garage and the room they were remodeling, getting rid of the mess and debris left behind by the previous company. Usually on a given day, they were at the house by 7:30 AM, had a crew of anywhere from 2-4 people working, and completed their task for the day within a couple of hours. They were very efficient at getting things done. The tile guy took his time, which was fine with us because our most important concern was that it was done right, and this was one of the most expensive and visible parts of the project. The tile work in the shower and floor was as close to perfect as is humanly possible.
They also obtained a building permit, redid previous work that was not up to code, and got all the inspections done.
We ran into one setback where they discovered faulty plumbing work done by the previous contractor. They had to cut open the ceiling in the downstairs kitchen to fix it. Then they had to patch the ceiling and repaint it in half of the downstairs since its an open floor plan. They were very fast about overcoming this setback and had it done in 2 days, all the while minimizing the mess made in our house and living space. Our ceiling looked better when they were done than it did before they started.
The one thing we would advise is if your are considering Jesco, be patient if you do not hear back from them right away. They are a small company and Jimmy personally manages every project. It took him a while to get back to us with a bid but it was worth the wait. Once we actually scheduled the job and throughout the construction, Jimmy was very accessible and personally on site regularly to inspect the work and to discuss with us what was going to happen, address our concerns, etc.
We had collected a few bids before we selected Jesco. Jesco's price was on par with other reputable contractors, and we chose them because we believed they would be the easiest and best people to work with. Keep in mind that a remodel can be both invasive and stressful, and you will (hopefully) be seeing your contractor and crew daily, sometimes when you or your kids are still in pajamas. At the end of the day, you want people who are happy to do what they are doing and who are willing and eager to do things to your satisfaction. We are delighted with our new bathroom and happy that we made the right choice this time around by hiring Jesco.
I've worked with Jimmy Smith and his crew on a few home repair projects over the past 15 years and find him and his crew to be superior in every respect, they arrive when scheduled, work hard every moment, are courteous, efficient, and do very good work. As an example of the crew going the extra distance the painter noticed after the window was installed and freshly painted that the adjacent wall looked a bit shabby by comparison, he asked if I had any matching wall paint and proceeded to paint the wall. The only snag on this recent project was weather related and out of Jimmy's control as Winter weather just wouldn't let go. I had a cheaper estimate from a local window company but am pleased I waited until JESCO was available.
The end results was a high quality job - which is what I wanted. I couldn't recommend them more.
