I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. THEY DO WHAT THEY PROMISE AND ALWAYS TELL YOU EVERYTHING UP FRONT. :-)
The next call (a few months later) was for them to give me a quote on the work needed under our primary residence that I was planning on selling. We had a washer leaking for a few months and I knew there was going to be some water damage and potential mold. Once again, to my surprise, the news was good. Some minor tasks were identified (most of which was not in the scope of work they performed) and they didn't feel any repairs were necessary unless the buyers? inspection proved otherwise. For a second time, this company cost me $0.00!
The third call was for a house we made an offer on and our inspector had some serious concerns regarding the condition of the crawl space. He advised us to bring in an expert to test the moisture levels and to inspect certain "suspect activity". Without hesitation, I knew exactly who to call. This time I asked for a formal inspection so there was a $125 inspection fee (which was later applied toward the overall cost of the project.) After the inspection, we received a 45-minute consultation. We learned there was, in fact, a significant moisture problem as well as some areas with mold. The inspector told us that even though the issues were substantial, they were correctable and that we shouldnt let these issues deter us from purchasing a house that we loved.
The project quoted for $7,950 and involved:
1) Digging a trough around the interior perimeter of the crawl space (approximately 2,300 sf crawlspace) which would capture any water seeping in from outside and drain out the of the crawlspace at the lowest point. They ran the drainage to a convenient location near our house. The entire trough was filled with pebbles for filtration.
2) Remove all the insulation and treat/scrub any moisture areas to remove any mildew/mold. Also cleaned/organized any wiring as well as removed any debris.
3) Seal the crawl space with ground plastic as well as up the sides. Also permanently sealed all the crawl space vents so there was no ventilation from outside.
4) Tapped into the HVAC system with multiple vents so that the crawl space is warm in the winter time and cooled in the summer time (actually improves the HVAC efficiency).
5) Suggested using the existing vapor barrier which was in good enough condition (with some minor patch work) to help save costs.
We used this quote as part of our negotiations with the buyers. We ended up buying the house and hired HHR to do the work they quoted. They were booked for a month so they came out immediately and temporarily installed a dehumidifier to help control the atmosphere and keep the conditions from getting worse. They also provided us with a radon meter to monitor the radon levels throughout the house during that timeframe. Once the real work started, they called me every day to let me know when their team would arrive and give me status updates. The workers were always on time, polite and happy to answer questions. I have never dealt with a more professional company.
The end result is amazing. I have had two different workers come do other work, which required them to go into the crawl space. They were both amazed at the condition. One said it was "the best crawl space experience he ever had" and they complimented the work without me asking. I recently spent 4 hours under there running speaker wire for a surround sound system and can't believe how immaculate the crawlspace is.
an incredibly moldy, wet crawlspace that had a few difficult areas to work in. It was making our house dank and musty and was giving me terrible allergies everyday. We got four estimates from different companies for the work. HHR was not the cheapest estimate we got but Dennis answered our questions more thoroughly than anyone else and it was evident that he had extensively
researched the topic of crawlspace encapsulation. We felt most comfortable with HHR?s approach and we hired them to do the work.
William did most of the work and was extremely thorough, hardworking and personable for the week he spent here. He added drainage in several places, sealed up all the vents, added a fan to draw air out, patched into our HVAC ducts to keep the air slightly conditioned and dry and replaced the crawlspace door for an insulated and sealed door. They also contracted with a
company to clean out our ductwork. It was a total transformation! Within a day, I could already tell a major difference in the air quality in the house. The air was dry and the musty smell dissipated within a week. It has been about 2 months since they performed the work and everything still looks fantastic down there. Very dry, clean and most importantly, mold free! They also guarantee their work, which is comforting.
We had no complaints at all about their work and would absolutely hire them again if we ever have a need.
We had a skylight in the master bedroom that had been leaking for quite sometime. We patched it and would have repaired it ourselves but the skylight wasn't a standard size. Recently after some heavy rains the popcorn ceiling near the skylight fell down and we noticed some water leaks and possible mold damage. HHR was the first company listed for mold remediation and one of the highest rated on Angie's list so I called them first. Chris came out and inspected the work to be done. Chris was always courteous, nice and very respectful of our home. I then received a call from Amy who gave me the estimate for the mold remediation only and a rough estimate for the roof repair. On a hunch I called our home owner's insurance agency to see if they would help pay the bill and it turned out that they would cover most of the cost. When the home owner's inspector came out they gave me a detailed line by line expense report and cut me a check and told me to call back if any hidden damage was found. The only frustration in the entire process came because the estimate HHR gave me wasn't broken down line by line, so I was stuck in the middle negotiating prices between HHR and my insurance company. I should have had them talk to each other and work out the details instead. Anyway, after the mold remediation was done HHR contracted someone for the roof repairs and ceiling repairs that agreed to the estimates they gave me. Both contractors were pleasant to work with. After the job was done there were a few items that didn't get done because they didn't need to be done, but I had already written a check. HHR was more than happy to renegotiate and give me a refund for the items that weren't done. Since they did such good job I plan to use them for crawlspace encapsulation. I would recommend HHR to anyone. They were professional, easy to work with and reasonably priced.
Healthy Homes removed insulation, used fans to dry out space and a temp dehumidifier. Once dried, they cleaned the mold and sprayed wood to protect. They permanently sealed vents and added wall insulation and sealed foundation and covered space with 10 mil plastic on floor and halfway up walls. They also made sure all wiring and duct work was off the ground. They dug a new trench and installed drainage out of the crawl space and showed me how the old drainage was not working. They insulated and properly sealed the crawl space door and added a handle to make it easier to open.
They then added two vents off of the current existing AC / heating duct work to allow AC during the summer and heating during the winter to keep the crawl space temperature and humidity at more consistent levels.
Everything he said he was going to do in the quote he did, and did it when he said he would do it.
There was great communication on a daily basis to let me know who and when would come the next day as the work progressed.
All the team was professional and couteous and I feel my money was well spent and at a fair price.
I highly recommend using Healthy Home Resoration.
"[member name removed], Thanks for the GREAT review! I got a good laugh out of your comments regarding the zombie rats but in all seriousness... for any Angies List Members reading this review. Zombie Rats are real and can be a big problem in the Triangle area!!!!! Just another reason to call Healthy Home Restoration :) Good air quality, Lower Energy Bills, and no zombie rats roaches or even the lessor known but equally dangerous, Zombie toads. I do appreciate the kind words and will share this review with the crew."
The work started with, Dennis the owner, coming out to see what was going on in our crawlspace. He patiently explained everything very thoroughly and provided a quote that day, which was very competitive. He clearly knows his stuff. Basically, we needed a drain dug around the perimeter of the crawlspace to handle the water issue. We decided to go ahead and do encapsulation as well...this was not needed to fix the water issue, but the crawlspace had mold and rodents and was just very dirty. It is now clean, mold-free and rodent-free.
Amy or Chris would call me each day and let me know who would be there the next day, what they would be doing and what time they would arrive. Each and every employee that came to work at my house was top notch.....they were friendly, helpful, attentive to fine details, quality oriented, and had very positive attitudes.
I highly recommend HHR.....they are an A+ company!
I wanted a solution that I could set and mostly forget about. HHR's estimate was far below others, mainly because did not try to sell me anything I did not need. He was very helpful in answering all questions and putting them in plain English and took all the time I needed to help me understand what solution he was recommending. Other companies were trying to offer solutions that required constant upkeep and maintenance.
Before the work was to have begun, I discovered some standing water where I hadn't noticed any before, shortly after a rain. Dennis came back out to take a second look and recommended additional drainage that was not part of the original estimate, which was no problem for them to merge with the existing job. While this job was more than I had originally planned on spending, I now have a cleaner, drier, and healthier crawlspace.
The team was able to start on the start date, and, though it took an additional day or so due to the additional drainage work and the weather, I was pleased with the thoroughness and professionalism. I always got a call at the end of each work day to update me on the progress and when they would arrive at my house, in addition to any potential issues. All questions and requests were handled very well. After the work was completed, Dennis came out to inspect the final product.
I would happily use them again for their other services and recommend them to anyone.
