Mr. Dolby used copper metallic spray paint on our copper roof.

My wife did considerable research into copper roof cleaning methods and we selected Mr. Dolby because he did not use acids in his process and offered a seven year warranty.  We asked Mr. Dolby to explain his process and he indicated that it involved sanding the copper and then sealing it with a clear coat to prevent the copper from reacting with the air and turning black again.  In an early conversation he used the word ?paint? during his description of the cleaning process but when specifically asked if he used paint he declared that he did not use paint, only a clear coat.  We interviewed Mr. Dolby again on one additional occasion and again asked him specifically if he used paint, he stated emphatically that he did not use paint, only the clear coat to seal the copper.

Mr. Dolby originally asked for a $350 deposit before work began, to pay for the supplies necessary to perform the work.  When I met him to pay the deposit he requested $450.  He had e-mailed me the change in deposit that morning but since I was meeting him after work, I had not read the e-mail.  This seemed strange but we were anxious to get the copper roofs cleaned.

Mr. Dolby arrived, with his assistant, to perform the work as it was too big of a job for Mr. Dolby to handle alone.  He demonstrated the process to me on the first panel of copper, sanding the copper down to a shiny finish and then sealing the copper with a clear coat Rust-Oleum spray.  Just before he sprayed on the clear coat, I stopped him to make sure he was not using paint.  He stated that it was only a clear coat and that he did not use paint.  I was satisfied with the results on the first panel and left them to do the work.  Several hours later my wife arrived home and inspected the work that had been completed on the waterfall section at the end of the garage.  She discovered copper paint on the white brick near the copper roof.  An inspection of the Mr. Dolby?s work materials revealed four empty cans of copper metallic Rust-Oleum spray paint.

Mr. Dolby was not present at this time and had left his assistant there to start work on the roof over the porch.  The assistant refused to answer any questions regarding the paint on the bricks or the empty paint cans.  Upon Mr. Dolby?s return we confronted him and he admitted to using the copper metallic spray paint.  He insisted that the copper was so badly damaged that he could not sand it to a shine and that he covered the black spots with the copper metallic paint even though he knew that we did not want paint used on the copper roof.  He indicated that he had been using this method for years and his customers were happy with the results.

Mr. Dolby was fired because he had deliberately lied to us to get the job.  Had he been honest and told us that he used copper metallic paint as part of his process we would not have hired him for the job.  Overall, this was a very distasteful experience and we would not recommend Mr. Dolby's services to anyone.

The service turned out very well. I have used them before and I like that they do a good job. The polishing on both the interior and exterior lasts a very long time. The exterior work is still shinning after a year and a half.

It went beautifully!  Many of the face-plates on the door were painted with a few coats of paint and all of those layers were removed.  I've used them a few years ago as well for exterior brass polishing and those are still shining brightly!
