On my project Mr. Costin failed to demonstrate competence, diligence or integrity. Ultimately, Mr. Costin abandoned my job and his contract without notice and with a payment for $15,000 in his pocket. This payment was for siding, roof overhang repairs and
roofing. None of this work was ever conducted.
Mr. Costin was unable to provide solutions to the problems involved in an extensive renovation of an older house. While Mr. Costin or his employees were on the job, I continually raised the issues of the roof overhang, interior trim and exterior repairs. Mr Costin either ignored my comments or tossed off ideas that were inconsistent and unworkable. He never fully resolved how to approach these issues. He did no work on these items.
The work that was done was conducted poorly. In many cases his errors threatened the safety of my home. Here are six examples. 1.) He placed two support beams in the wrong place, contrary to the design of his engineers. 2.) The sheathing of the new exterior walls was not installed according to APA standards or the NC building code, and as such, it did not provide the structural integrity of a properly constructed wall. 3.) Structural hangers or brackets required by his engineer were omitted. 4) His workmen broke two floor joists while trying to place a new beam. (Fortunately I came by while this work was going on and stopped them before they could do
more damage.) 5)The elevation of a window was two inches too low.  6.) The waterproofing and air barrier were applied inconsistently, resulting in serious leaks. These items were corrected only after I complained and demanded corrections. The water proofing remains uncorrected.
Mr. Costin failed to provide the promised subcontractors. In the end he was only able to provide a plumbing subcontractor. Neither of the two mechanical subcontractors he presented would provide a quote on the system I wanted. I found a mechanical contractor on my own who quoted the system at a lower price than Mr. Costin's subcontractor. Despite Mr. Costin's earlier assurances, his proposed electrical subcontractor refused to visit the job site without additional documentation. I hired an electrician on my own that worked with the original documents.
Mr. Costin failed to conduct the work in a timely manner.  Between my final payment for $15,000 on January 3 and March 20, 2013 when Mr. Costin removed his firm's name from the building permit almost no nonremedial work was performed.

Response from Beavers Construction
"I did not abandon this project nor did I take money for work not completed. After a great effort on my part to please this customer, it was mutually agreed that we would part ways after a certain portion of the contract was complete. I held up my part of the agreement, and this was investigated by the BBB and after hearing both sides they considered the matter resolved. The details of the situation are listed on their website."

The contracting service was excellent.  He came on time and as scheduled.  He did excellent work and the garage has worked well.  There has been no problem.  Usually problems start to occur two years after but we haven't had any problems.  We got it done for a very good price.  The quality of the work and the cost all lined up with the value of the home.  It was a standalone garage.  I've worked with several contractors but he was right on target.  He did exactly what we asked for and we didn't have to push.  He kept us informed and managed the subcontractors well.  There were a couple of times when we had questions and we had to get in touch with him.
