,Being technologically handicapped, when my computer screen only had colors rather then icons, I called my usual computer repair shop.  They work only on software problems, and recommended Absolute Computers.  I took it in, Greg opened it up and knew what was wrong with it.  There was a back-up and it couldn't get checked for 2 days.  And then because of the Easter holiday, the part would probably take longer.  I got it back, after a total for 10 days, working like it should and got a great instructional from Greg.  Computer repaired and learned something new.  The long wait period was not an issue for me since I don't use my laptop for work.  They were up-front about the waiting period, reasonably priced, and friendly.  Thank you Absolute Computers.

The repair took longer than estimated.  I didn't initially know why it was dragging out.  I kept asking, and they admitted that the technician had damaged a part on the machine while installing the new screen, and they had to order the replacement part.  I wasn't thrilled to hear this, but they fixed it and of course did not charge me for the part they damaged.  The machine was fixed for the amount estimated.  It took about a week longer than they initially estimated.  At this point (7 months out), the laptop is still working, and I hope to use it for another couple years.

"[member name removed], thanks for the nice review. One minor correction - after doing the free diagnostics - we did transfer your data for a fee but we only charged $60 not $100. :-) Thanks Bob"

I had an older laptop that still worked but was getting very slow and I wanted to figure out if it was worth upgrading the RAM or if it would make more sense to invest in a new laptop.  I also inherited a newer Acer desktop and wanted them to transfer documents and files from an old desktop I wasn't using much anymore.
After reviewing the laptop, Greg called and said that the diagnostics showed that both the hard drive and the motherboard didn't have much life in them so he suggested that putting money into the laptop didn't make sense versus putting the money towards another computer. Those diagnostics didn't cost me anything so I was able to pick up the laptop so I can transfer the data when I get a new laptop.
The desktop data transfer was completed and Absolute was able to recycle the old desktop for me. Greg even carried the desktop out to my car so I didn't have to make 2 trips.
I really like that this company is honest and willing to explain what needs to be done in as much detail as you need to make a decision how much to spend on used computer vs spending more to buy a new computer.

Response from Absolute Computers
"Thanks for the feedback. We do offer an expedited diagnostics where we take your computer and immediately have a technician start to look at the problem. However we charge for that special handling (the charge is still less than the big box stores charge for their "regular" diagnostics service). The free diagnostics that we offer normally requires a wait of one to two business days."

I have used this repair shop 3 times now with good results. Twice to repair bad laptop displays and now faulty hard drive. Shop allowed me to provide my own new solid state hard drive which are lightning fast. Shop upgraded me to Windows 7 Home Premium for about $45, great price. I'll use them again.
Response from Absolute Computers
"We are happy to order parts for folks or install hardware that they have purchased elsewhere. We do like solid state drives, they are coming down in price and really do provide a significant performance improvement."

Dropped off laptop on 8/4/12. Were to call by 8/6/12. Called on 8/7/12 informed screen needed replacement..approved to be done..and informed would be completed by 8/9..8/10...had to call three more times and was told part was not shipped correctly and when arrived was defective and had to order another,,,had to continually call to get staus and each time it was the shippers fault it was not delivered as told...my issue is, POOR customer service and POOR customer communication. Asked that old screen be kept and returned to me. When finally repaired, they did not keep and return as requested and written on work ticket. Greg was rude and basically said...why do you want it it was no good...you don't need it back...what a response..so sad ..too bad attitude. The laptop screen was replaced and seems to be working...but customer service is the worst I have experienced.
Response from Absolute Computers
"The customer is correct that his screen replacement took a very long time and we apologized to him for that multiple times. According to our records, the customer did drop it off for free diagnostics on 8/4. He suspected a bad screen at the time. We called him on 8/5 and left a voice mail confirming the bad screen and the cost of a screen replacement. He called and confirmed the repair on 8/7. Our screen supplier normally ships us screens with delivery in 2-3 days. However our supplier's shipping manager was on vacation and this particular shipment was sent USPS Priority Mail by error. This meant the shipping time was a week. We called all four customers that were affected by this error and told them that their screen was going to be late arriving and apologized for the delay. We left a voicemail for this customer. In this case, our supplier sent the wrong screen (wrong part number). We called the customer, explained the problem and stated we would have the correct screen overnight express delivered the next day from the same supplier. Our screen supplier was very apologetic. Not getting 2-3 day delivery has only happened twice in the last year. We get nearly daily shipments from them so they are typically quite reliable. The customer demanded we order a screen from a different supplier. We very reluctantly agreed however stating that a different supplier would be slower than our normal supplier. The customer insisted we do so and that is what we did. The other supplier took 4 business days for delivery instead of the overnight delivery we would have gotten from our normal supplier. The other supplier's screen was also more expensive (of course, we did not pass this extra cost onto the customer). We called when the screen arrived. It was installed the same day as the arrival. The customer picked it up the next day. We believe the repair was done correctly and the screen should provide years of service. We apologize for the delays in getting the screen replacement. We did attempt to keep the customer informed of the status of the shipment of his screen. When we called the customer, we normally got his voicemail and we would leave a message on it."

Dropped off the monitor on a Friday morning.  Was told to expect a call on Monday.  Didn't hear until Thursday (thus the ding on punctuality).  Was told that the problem could be a capacitor (an hour's labor to repair) or something larger.

I expected to be told I could pay for the attempted repair and, if it worked, great.  If not then I was out the money.  But no, I was told that if the repair didn't work there was NO CHARGE.  Wow!  A no-risk, high-reward option for the customer!

Happily, the replaced capacitor fixed the problem and I got a call on Monday to pick up the monitor.
Response from Absolute Computers
"I am very sorry about the delayed response, but are happy the monitor returned to life."

I contacted Absolute Computers by email and got a response within a couple of hours, quoting me a price of $20 for the installation (I already bought the replacement online). The email also said they would install the keyboard while I waited and that I didn't need to make an appointment. Since this was the best price I was quoted and I didn't want to give up my only computer for a few days, I decided to take my laptop into Absolute. When I got there, I didn't have to wait on line. The technician installed the keyboard in about two minutes and he tested it out for me. The service was great, and the price was about 2 to 4 times less than a vast majority of the other quotes I received.

Called and Len answered immediately. Very knowledgeable and clear. Obviously they could not do an exact estimate until they actually examined the computer but he gave me a good idea of likely best and worst case scenario (no fee diagnosis and approx $60 to to $170 for repair - again, obviously they cannot tell if there is something more substantively wrong until they actually evaluate). I am definitely a computer guy but like to leave the hardware and/or software fixes to the people that specialize in that area... and based upon my interaction this is a place I would bring my computer before shelling out the money to buy a new one.
PS. The phone number is valid but they have changed location from what is in their Angie's list profile. I suggested that they update the address and any other information that may have changed since I might have otherwise dropped by the wrong location.
