They did an excellent job!

I received 3 quotes and British Standard Fencing was the best quote which included both labor and materials. The 2 fellows who completed the labor worked hard. They removed the old posts and fencing and had to put in new posts and fencing. They were here for 4 days. It was a pleasure doing business with British Standard Fencing. I would recommend them to anyone needing fencing.

Perfect! After contacting this company James came out and gave us a written quote. I noticed unlike other quotes I got from others, he puts concrete in every post while others only do it in the corners and the gate posts. James was very maticulious in getting everything right. He took his time and was detailed oriented. When my wife came home from work that day she was thrilled by the results. We will definitely recommend him to others. Thank you James.

We called James in late-February 2020. He came promptly and provided a repair estimate. Repair was delayed a while by several days of constant rain and by us being out of town. In early March, James called to schedule the repair. James and a co-worker arrived at the appointed time. They completed the repair and replacement work in good order and at the estimate price. Very satisfied with the repair work.

In May 2018, we contacted James about the job and setup an appointment for an estimate. James came at the appointed time. Because of the nature of the space to be enclosed we spent considerable time discussing and reviewing options for routing of the fence and fencing options. We setup a date in mid-July 2018 to install the fence - to allow time for materials to come in and to accommodate our June/July vacation plans. On the appointed date, James and his crew arrived to install the fence. They part of one day removing our old fence and setting posts for the new fence. They returned a day later to install the chain link. All went well. The crew did a professional job. The work area was nice and clean at the end of the project. Overall great experience.

We have a PVC fence, originally installed by a different company, and it needed minor repair. The work took about a half hour. James came out and gave us an estimate, and returned in a few days to do the repair with an assistant. For both appointments he was on time and respectful of our property. We would definitely use him again.

Great! And right on budget

Great. This time he installed a 230 ft long, 4 ft tall, 3 rail, split rail fence. Responsive and professional, as he was the first time we used him a couple years ago.$3,345

The fence is beautiful and exceeded our expectations! James was great! We were fully expecting him to arrive with pre-fab fence panels and gates to be installed, but instead they set up saws and equipment and cut each piece individually on our site -- pickets, gates, and all. The materials were of a much higher quality than expected. He arrived on time, did the work when promised, and the price was very competitive. If you need a fence of any sort, British Standard Fence is the one to hire.

Fast, excellent work, very professional. Talked to several others who did not follow through or tried to change my mind about what I wanted. His crew was very hard working. Never left the property, ate lunch in their trucks.

Contacted contractor on May 15, 2017 an left message. James Smith did job walk on May 23, 2017. Said he would have to order the mesh. I asked that they complete the work by June 29 if at all possible. They did not not contact me prior to June 29 and did not do any work. I called and left a phone message on July 10, 2017, and told them if they could not complete the work by July 20, we will get another contractor. They called 2 days later and said there was no way they could do the job by July 20. Both James and his wife seem to be very nice people, but waiting for over 2 months for the repair and still having no idea when it might happen is poor service in my opinion.

excellent work, hard working

I gave James about 7-10 days to get the estimate worked up as I knew he was pretty busy. Then I phoned and left a message to check in. No response. Then I phone again. And again. All spread out over several days so that I was giving him plenty of time to get my phone call returned. I never received a call back, an explanation, or even a response saying that he was not going to be able to work on this project. In all, I wasted at least 2 weeks waiting on him, a few hours of my valuable time, and my fencing project is still not done. In the meantime, the safety of my animals is a large concern, and I am no closer to finding a reliable fencing contractor. Contractors should really realize that the client's time and investment in them is valuable and have at least the courtesy to follow up, even if they are unable or unwilling to do a job. A contractor who won't return calls during the bidding stage is a contractor who probably won't communicate very well or at all once they start getting deposit checks, and I now have no trust in hiring British Standard Fencing.

I have a contract with them but I haven't worked with them yet. We're not doing that until August. We chose them because we talked to three other people, and we saw a fence and liked it.

A change of plans so fence was not required at this time.

Annoying and rude. We were told in the beginning that it would be 6 weeks for him to get to our job. We gave him the required 50% deposit and waited. After 8 weeks my husband emailed him ( he doesn't answer his phone) asking when he would get started and was told it would be the next week. A week later he comes to put the supports in place. Another week goes by and nobody comes to finish. After numerous calls and messages he calls back to say he was out of town and they would come the next week which they did. It took 3 days to finish and this guy has the nerve to call the very next morning to come and pick up the check for the remaining balance. He was 4 weeks late, never having contacted us unless we kept calling or emailing him, and definitely no apology, but he could certainly find the time to call when it was time to be paid. I am assuming the workmanship is good quality but really it takes time to tell that.

They arrived on the scheduled day and completed the work as anticipated. The new fence looks great, and the gates work fine!

Excellent, truly professional job. Compliments from every neighbor. When my house contractor asked who built the fence, as it is such a good job, they confirmed that British Standard was the best fence company in the Asheville area.

In 2014 the people at British Standard installed fencing for us. They did a great job then, but more importantly, we had a minor problem this summer and they fixed it with no charge. Incredible service, even two years later.

Excellent. Beautiful fencing job done just as we requested. Fencing very tight to irregular terrain.
