I got good, timely service and they did a good job, but I think their price is a little high. I have never had any problems with their quality. My biggest problem is the price, which is probably understandable since it is a dealership. I have been using them for about three years. They bought out the previous dealer about three years ago. Things were handled in a timely fashion, they did work and I was treated well by their staff.
To summarize: It started off fine, but once we started discussing financial matters, everything seemed completely shady. They avoided my requests for quotes, left out important financial details, and told me a lot of and quot;storiesand quot; about what my trade-in car was worth.
The details:
I wanted to test drive and compare a 2014 Forester and an Outback. I had a ten year old Forester that I was considering trading in. The test drives went fine. However, I asked for quotes on both models and what they would give me for my car as a trade-in. They repeatedly tried to avoid quoting me prices and wanted to know and quot;what I wanted to payand quot; and and quot;what I wanted to getand quot; for my car. I kept saying I just wanted to get quotes. Finally, the guy roughly handed a book to my sales person and said and quot;Give her invoice on any of theseand quot; and told me my car was worth and quot;about $4000.and quot; I wrote down the invoice prices and said I wanted to think about it and that decide if I would just sell my car on my own.
The next day my sales person called and said that she had “Good News! They had a deal for me for “today only” for the Outback.
She said that they would give me $4000 for my car if I bought the Outback. I asked about the Forester, and she reluctantly went to ask some guy about it. He said $3000 trade-in if I bought the Forester. The sales person said that I would never get the Kelley Blue Book value for my car ($6500 for and quot;fairand quot; condition) if I sold it on my own and that my car smelled like dogs (she never went anywhere near the inside of my car, and I had just had it professionally detailed in their own shop!). Never-the-less, I decided to go ahead because I wanted to move on and not deal with the hassle of selling my car.
They had prepared monthly payment amounts for both cars. I decided to go Forester. When they showed me the monthly payment, the interest rates listed were 2.9, 3.9, and 4.9% for 36, 60, and 72 months....none were the 1.9% incentive as we had discussed. I questioned this and they “redid” the paperwork. This dropped the rates down to 1.9, 2.9, and 3.9%. I questioned it again and for the FIRST time she mentioned that the 1.9% interest rate we had discussed was only for a 36 month contract. The payment still seemed higher than it should have been so I looked through the papers. On one of the pages there was an additional fee that had never been mentioned before. (This and quot;documentationand quot; fee might have been legit, but why didn't they mention it in our discussion of the costs?) In any case, I said that the payments were more than I wanted, so I wanted to see the Outback papers again, which had lower interest rates. She said that that the guy had and quot;thrown awayand quot; those papers (this was 5 minutes after I had just looked at them). I said OK, I would need to think about it then and she said no, I had to decide right then and that the price wouldn't be good after today. She said that I wasn't willing to negotiate and that they had done more for me than they had for and quot;anyone elseand quot;. (All I ever did was ask for quotes on the cars and what they would give me for my car!) Needless to say, I left without a car!
