We knew we needed to have some work done due to minor water damage on a small area of our house - basically replacing some indoor paneling and outdoor siding. Our initial interactions with Mr. Aldophson were positive, he was very up front about estimates and what he would need to do to determine the amount of work that would need to be done. The first wrinkle was that we had a date scheduled for the work, when the weather forecast to be perfect (dry) and we had made time to be home, etc, but at the last minute he rescheduled for a week or so later. The second date was not ideal for the work that needed to be done because it was raining, and work had to be done on the outside of the house (also because water getting in was the problem in the first place).
Mr. Adolphson suggested some things we could do on our own, like repainting once the siding was up, which at the time seemed helpful. Then he left and his 2 workers did the rest of the work; we didn't see Mr. Adolphson again. Everything seemed fine and when they were done with the outside siding they put up a plastic sheet on the outside to protect it from the rain until we could paint it. It rained for several days and the plastic seemed to protect the wall pretty well but not perfectly, plus they had nailed it up which meant extra nails in the siding (not a huge deal but they are visible even after painting). After things got dried out we repainted the outdoor siding ourselves, and we also repainted the indoor paneling they had used - which Mr. Adolphson advised us was the closest match he could get to what was originally there.
Up to that point we were basically satisfied with the service, though I really wish that we'd had the option of rescheduling for a drier period because having unpainted wood siding on our house for 2-3 rainy days in an area that had seen water damage before was stressful. But the really bad part is that in the 7 months since the work was done, the paneling they used on the inside has warped noticeably. All the rest of the paneling in our house is perfect but this one patch now has obvious warps and buckles in it - and even before, when there had been water getting in, that area wasn't warped at all. I don't know if the material they used was cheap/defective or if the workers installed it with no give so that it buckled because of humidity, but in any case it looks awful. Right now we have it mostly covered with a large piece of furniture but it looks like we're going to have to replace it yet again. The outdoor siding has been fine but the really poor job done on the inside means I cannot recommend this company to others.

Response from Adolphson Building Company, LLC
"Delay was due to late receipt of deposit from the customer. We had no control over the weather nor how long it took for homeowner to paint. Customer was informed to paint ASAP and declined my offer to paint and save money. Would recommend having a professional complete job 100% and not blame the contractor when short cuts are taken by the homeowner."

Cliff came to me with high recommendations from a local realtor and I found his work to be excellent. He fully explained what was required and gave us a detailed cost of materials and labor in a professional bid, telling me that the cost would not be higher than that. His work was completed on-time using a very professional crew and Cliff even went up on our steep roof to help with the final touches, in order to finish on time. We hold him and his work in highest regard. My final bill was more than $300 below Cliff's bid.

Cliff and his crew arrived a few minutes early after picking up the doors we had purchased at the building supply store. They removed the old doors which had rotted frames with a minimum of difficulty and no damage to the interior moulding or exterior siding. They protected the floor and cleaned up after their work. They were very professional the entire time. I felt the price was very reasonable. Cliff also provided me with other estimates for future work I would like done by his crew. I would highly recommend him for any home projects you are considering.
