I never felt pressured to buy anything - the woman who helped us was very nice - even though they are selling a hybrid that DOES NOT work on everybody - especially large people like myself. They need more knowledge about that. I purchased a ISerta hybrid mattress - an Applause Firm - that felt very firm in the store. Within months - it started to sag - triggering a sciatic flare. Serta does warranty there beds - but you have to PAY an inspector to come and measure for "visible indentatons". This hybrid is very soft - and great for smaller people - my husband loves it - but I am twice his size. It is covered, individual pocket coils with a thin layer of tempurpedic and gel foam. The bed is lumpy - since the coils aren't connected to can compress and poke you. My sinking hips cause the coils in the ribcage area to be compressed and it hurts - I am experiencing more nerve damage on this bed. The mattress is a full-size King on top of two twin adjustable twin frames. They should NEVER sell a full King as this type of compressable mattress because you feel the hump in the middle. Really badly designed - that and the fact that the King is slightly smaller than the frame and slips around constantly. Really disappointed and embarassed I spent that much money. We are going to switch to two Twin mattresses - custom and locally made. Back to an innerspring - the best for people weighing over 250 lbs! It's all about weight distribution - that which hybrid mattresses to do not do well.
Description of Work: They delivered and setup an adjustable bed and hybrid mattress - WITHOUT the low profile legs that I desperately needed. Jeff - the owner - upon callback about legs assured me that when the legs came in - the delivery people would come and put them on my bed. Did not happen. - When they arrived weeks later I got a call from the woman who works there (she is very nice) called to say the were ready to pickup with no mention of them being delivered and set up. They should have been proactive and got another pair of profile legs for me BEFORE delivery. I was able to buy my own legs on a Serta website 6 weeks before theirs came in. Why didn't/couldn't they do the same for me? I have arthritis and fibromyalgia and the woman knew how important the lower legs were to me.

I am sorry that you have had difficulties with your adjustable bed purchase, but I wish you had said something earlier as all of this could have been solved without cost to you. Serta does offer a 120 day comfort exchange with zero restock fee, so we could have simply swapped the mattress for you. Even though it's been over a year, your mattress is under warranty. All that is needed to make a warranty claim is to send me a photo of the sag and the law tag. There is no need to pay for an inspector when you have a retailer to support you. The shorter legs were ordered the same time as the mattress and adjustable bases that you selected. Serta directed us to order the legs directly from the manufacturer, Ergomotion. I'm not sure why Ergomotion was back ordered on the shorter legs, but it is probably because it is a Chinese made product. In the past, I have seen Chinese manufactured products on back order for months. Had I known that you had health issues that made getting the shorter legs imperative, I would certainly have investigated other options. Regarding selecting a different mattress, I do agree that two twin xl's is the way to go; while we do have the occassional customer select a single king mattress, we never recommend this. As far as the type of mattress, I disagree that an innerspring is best. The Serta mattress that you bought from us is the firmest of their iSeries line, and with a dual coil in coil design, is a very strong innerspring mattress with a 25 year warranty. The most durable option would be a natural latex mattress with a latex, not polyfoam, core. The Pure Latex Bliss brand that we carry has a full 20 year warranty, and only requires a 3/4" sag, vs 1-1/2" for innersprings, to be replaced. If you have your heart set on an innerspring, I would recommend the old style, heavy coil, flippable mattress. I have two models from Kingsdown due in on Friday. I would encourage you to contact me to process your warranty. Of the $3600 you spent on the bed, about $1400 is in the mattress, and it would be a shame to waste this money. Once approved, the credit can be applied to any mattress, not just a Serta. Also, if you bought legs from us, and never got them, you should be due a credit. You can reach me by phone or email if you would like me to initiate a warranty claim for you. Thank You, Jeff Cobb Manager, Sleepworld 828.277.2500 [email protected]

I don't like reviewing places where I have not made a purchase. But that's not going to happen. Sleepworld is within two miles of our house and less than 1/2 mile from a different bed store where I restarted a search. My criteria wasn't too difficult. I didn't want a pillowtop bed. I made that clear (and it was where I was steered to a higher priced set). I was told to lie down on the beds. But every time I got down on a bed, I was called to a different one. I was unable to write many notes because of the speed in which I was jerked around the store. I tried two beds (I wouldn't call it "trying") and was called to try a pillowtop . "The sale ended yesterday but if you come back today (or tomorrow), I'll get you the price." "Go home and look up the bed." "You have to love your bed." I wanted the saleswoman to listen to me. That didn't happen. I did look on the internet and every review about the pillowtop including what I laid on last confirmed what I knew and why I won't buy them. The pillowtop wears out before the mattress. I created that situation with my current bed by adding a top and it is worn out well before the mattress. The other information on the bed wasn't what I cared about. Mainly, what about, "I don't want a pillowtop," didn't the saleswoman understand? She was obviously uncomfortable about the cheaper beds I was viewing because she made a comment about it a few times. I don't remember how she said it but she did. My total cost for the queen bed I didn't want would've been close to $1500 (included a frame). No way. That may be the regular cost but I didn't want it anyway... I won't be pressured and if I'm not treated with respect and as a customer. If I'm not listened to and driven to higher priced beds, I won't buy from a company. I didn't care about a sale ending. If Sleepworld wanted my money, there would be another sale or I'd do as I did and went down the street the following day where they were interested in helping the customer. There was a delivery charge and something I didn't need was thrown in ... It was not a nice environment - it was dark. I was one customer in the store and I was rushed as heck by the salesperson. I found a bed at the place where they make beds but it wasn't the other store's brand. I looked it up and didn't like what I read. But I went back the next day to get a similar bed made by that company for slightly more. The quality was superior, I'm getting a cotton organic cover for the mattress and there's no delivery charge. It's also NOT a pillowtop! I'm paying less for a bed I want, for a bed that I actually want. * * * * Just an update to respond to Sleepworld's response. I apologize for the redundancy because this is almost all in the original review. Sleepworld Folks: I appreciate your response. It doesn't change what happened, though. On the day I went in, I was indeed rushed. I'm from outside NYC and have decompressed from a type AAA to maybe a type B personality in the years we've been here. That's why I had my shoes by one bed, my fairly useless notebook elsewhere (I wasn't given time to write down anything except the third and final bed I tried because only then was I allowed time to write anything down), and I think my glasses were yet someplace else. I knew about pillowtops and their reputation based on research I did @15 years ago, several years ago, and based on what was I was told to do by the salesperson - I looked up the model suggested. I did my homework before and after. In terms of fitting, when I walk into a store and pretty close to my first words out of my mouth were "I don't want a pillowtop" but am directed to one after the first two beds didn't work for me, it's sort of silly. I didn't care about the cost of it because in the end it may have been a little more ($100 or $200) than what I bought. I really wish you the best in your business. My only suggestion to you is that you may want to revisit what happens vs happened. If a potential customer says no pillowtop, why direct them to one? Direct me out the door ... you don't have something that will suit me. The return policy is okay but I'd have to pay for the return and with the limitation to what I was willing to pay and what you had, it wouldn't have worked because this would've locked me into staying with the store where (I agree) the best option was a pillowtop and I made it clear I didn't want one based on my "homework" :).
Description of Work: I wanted a mattress or bed. They were one of two places I went to check them out.

We are sorry we couldn't accommodate your needs. You are NEVER rushed into a purchase at Sleepworld, that's why we want you to research and think about your purchase before buying it. The customer is best fitted with the mattress that accommodates their sleep position and the constraints of their criteria. The salesperson is usually best equipped for that diagnosis. That being said, If you are happy with your selection?, Congratulations! Hope you have many years of wonderful rested nights! :)
