Carpet Sales and Installation
$8,000
I planned a big party for my only son’s high school graduation this past June. Friends and family came as far as California to attend, and I hosted them at my house. I wanted to refresh the guest spaces (bedrooms and lower level) so ordered new carpeting. I bought carpet from Connie at Home Depot in Asheville on May 27th, and she rushed the order for installation prior to June 15th (graduation weekend). However, when the carpet arrived at my home on June 12, the installers discovered that the person who measured my rooms, had made mistakes by confusing the rooms and measurements so that the truck had the wrong carpeting, in the wrong amounts, and even some missing! I agreed to let them install what they had on the truck because I’d packed the house up in preparation, and my guests arrived in two days. The installers pulled out the old carpeting upstairs and exposed the sub floor in the hallway and my son’s room. Then they rolled out the new carpeting to cut, and saw it was moldy and dirty. I decided not to continue with the installation. A new team of installers came out 2 weeks later and discovered the measurements of the rooms were mis-labeled and incorrect in places, and again carpeting was missing. After lengthy conversations with the Installers, I decided to visit my local store and speak directly to management, who said the installer would be back the next day with the correct carpeting, but likely they wouldn’t have enough.(?) From June 12th (the original installation date) until now, July 7th my life has changed. I’ve been accepted to a Culinary School in California. I now need to rent my house to pay for my lodging while going to school. The color of carpeting that I originally chose is too light for a rental property, and so I asked if I could (as long as the carpet hasn’t been installed yet) change the color. Management said that I could as long as I paid 20% restock fee ($1500!). I couldn’t believe it. I suggested that if they’d installed the carpet on June 12th that I’d just accept the color, but since they hadn’t—perhaps we could even split the restock fee? They refused. I reluctantly agreed to let them install them install the originally ordered carpet. I feel coerced. I STILL do not have carpeting in my home that I paid $8000 for in May! I have not heard from Home Depot, and my house is still packed. The graduation has come and gone, and still exposed staples and nails riddle the floor in my upstairs hallway and the entrance to my son’s room. It’s hazardous to walk. I told the management of Home Depot about this, and still no carpet. I feel disappointed, angry and have lost faith in Home Depot. Home Depot insisted that I pay 100% of the carpet and installation up front. If they didn’t have my money—I’d choose to do business elsewhere.

First, let me say that Home Depot performed at a grade A on this job. However, they contract with a company that should replace their office staff. That company's name is Stabella, located in Monroe, NC. On 9/19/16, I purchased and set up measurement for the counter tops at Home Depot. The appointment for measurement was for 10/6/16. My carpenter, who installed the cabinets wanted to be there for the appointment, in case there were any issues with the cabinets. On 10/6/16, my carpenter and I waited 2 hours for Stabella. We finally called them and asked when they expected their workers to be here. Megan in the office said that it was not on the calendar. She apologized and said it was their mistake--and that they would try to hurry our order because of this. 10/10/16- Oscar from Stabella, came to measure. He was very professional. I asked Oscar a question about the countertops and he referred me to the office. 10/12/16- I called Stabella to discuss my being able to get the cut-out from the counter tops, so I could use the remnants for cutting boards. I had to leave a message with Megan because she didn't answer. By 10/28/16, I received no call back, so called again. Megan quickly told me that she was no longer my contact person and that I would be working with Britt. I expressed to Megan that I was frustrated because they had not called me back. At that point, I felt like I was dealing with high school girls. Megan talked to me very sarcastically, saying that she would transfer me to Britt. When I talked with Britt, I explained what I wanted. She too sounded very sarcastic in her tone. Britt told me that the counter tops would be finished on October 31 and would be installed possibly a few days later. On 11/9/16, I called Home Depot because I had not heard from Megan nor Britt. I was not interested in communicating with these 2 girls again. I explained to Home Depot what had been going on. They contacted Stabella and Britt told them that the counter tops were ready and that they had had trouble with scheduling with me. Home Depot called me back and reported this to me. I had in the meantime gotten a message from Britt saying that the counter tops were not ready yet, but would be soon. They left a date that they could install. 11/17/16- Installers were very professional. I've never felt so jerked around by a business. I have rental property that I will be putting in new kitchens. I definitely will not be using them.

They gave us a quote for $1025 for new vinyl flooring for a large kitchen in which the floor had not been replaced in over 15 years.  About $850 was for the installation.  When the contractor came to the house, we had moved the refrigerator and all other furniture out of the kitchen, he ripped up the old flooring and stopped as there was mold there from when the sink had clogged several years before.  He refused to continue working until we had a certificate of inspection from a mold removal inspector.  I paid his hourly rate and to remove the old vinyl - about $150.
I was not willing to proceed with this contractor nor take on the additional expense of bringing in a mold removal contractor, when the mold was isolated and easily removed with clorox and a bit of scrubbing.  We got another estimate and they finished the job for less than $200, saving me $500  plus the cost of the mold inspection.  I know this would have been a good job and they do give a lifetime guarantee on any work that's done, however I just felt like the cost of the labor and installation was higher than it should have been.   From now on, we'll stick with the private contractor.

It was all done very well. It took them a little time for them to get out to our home, but once they did, it took them just a day to do the work. They were very professional.

I called the provider and asked if they could provide a 10' fence. It seems rare that anyone carries that high of a fence in stock. They had to research it and get back to me. It took several days and I didn't hear from them so I had to call them back. They didn't know but they would send someone out. They set an appointment time and gave me the name of the person who would be coming.
That morning, about 10 minutes before the appointment time, the person scheduled to come called and said, and quot;What is a good day I should come?and quot; I said, and quot;We had an appointment scheduled in 10 minutes.and quot; He said, and quot;Ok I can be there. sorry no one told me.and quot; I waited and 20 minutes after the set appointment time I got a phone call saying they were lost. They said they were calling from a neighbors phone because they didn't get reception from their cell. So were actually in someone's house! Very unprofessional indeed.
I am not out in the country but less than five minutes from a mall and two minutes from a gas station.
When he arrived he didn't have the proper equiptment to measure, he didn't have sample pictures to show me, he called his store and didn't have the answers to my questions as to if he had the heighth I asked for or the type of fence but said he's call me within
30 miuntes. He did not call me.
I called the store and they said they couldn't get the heighth I wanted.
It was an unpleasant experience.

The last time I was there I simply needed to find a large C-clamp and I did not have much time. I asked the first person I came to and she walked me to the selection.

We shopped at a number of places, including local carpet stores, and decided on Home Depot because they had a great price on high quality carpet and they had the anti-microbial/waterproof thick pad we wanted. Because our builder had never dealt with HD for carpet install he was reluctant so we took over that part of the project ourselves. Building a house is a dynamic process and we needed to change install dates, twice. No problem. Carpet sellers like to sell you up to 20% extra carpet AND pad for seams and matching. HD worked hard with us to minimize waste on our order but still do a good job. This saved us significant money.
The icing on the cake was the day before we moved into our new home. The professional cleaners were there getting rid of all the construction dust and polishing everything up. One asked who had done our carpet. She said and quot;it is one of the better installs I have seen and I see a lot. These guys really knew what they were doing.and quot;
