"[member name removed], thank you for giving me the opportunity to work on your home, I am very pleased with the outcome of the project.Thank you for the post. It was a pleasure working with and let me know if you need any further assistance in the future thanks James Mascari Carolina home Exterior."
"(Member name removed), It was a pleasure to do business with you.The job turned out great thanks for the good referral if I can help improve your home in any way please let me know thanks Jim."
On the second job around 2011 job installer was much better and experienced and job went well with exception of their attemp to flash a shed roof connecting the main house to an addition. They drove small nails into the flashing-siding and it begin to leak after about one year. I had to seal the area with caulk. They did do GOOD job at replacing some rotten
facia board and straighting it down the length of the house.
Later met with owner Jim to get estimate on "hardie" board siding job and trim on another house. . He agreed to do the job but kept making excuses why he could not start the job. Bottom line he finally quit calling me back and I had someone else do the job. My thoughts were if this was an installition he did not have a crew for or experience in he should have just said so and not lead me on for over a month.
"I am shocked and surprised at this review about my company and my experience with (Member name removed). In response to the first line that says I never showed up for the job is wrong.I have applied vinyl siding to two of (Member name removed) homes that were both of his daughter's homes and have not had any issues with either one. I did use a new crew on one of the homes that were not sub contracted but a factory trained crew by the manufacture and I always check my jobs personally to ensure quality since that is what I sell. These homes were foreclosed homes that needed my full attention as well as my great crews attention. when homes are in this type of shape it takes experience and diligence to do these homes the right way . By the manufactures guidebook. The third home in question where (Member name removed) said that I did not show up is because (Member name removed) remodeled this home himself and left the dormers undone. When (Member name removed) called me to bid on the job I told him that I did not have a crew available to do this work since it was high on the roof with a steep pitch and very little to do. No contract was signed or was he waiting on me to do this job.I run a good company that prides itself on quality and training to do this work.If (Member name removed) was waiting on me then why did I not get a call from him asking when was I coming to do this job. Because my company was not signed up to do this job that's why he never herd from me.(Member name removed) knew that I was not signed up to do the job or I would have been there and got it done."
"In response to {removed member name}, As a prominent business man in Asheville for over 20 years this post is out of context with the guidelines in the contract. This repair contract was contingent upon the availability of one of my factory trained crews.{removed member name} was under the impression that I was going to start immediately on this repair. I called when I was scheduled to for an update on our starting a and she was expecting me every day to start knowing that I was calling to let her know when we would start this repair.I had to order materials and work around the weather as well. The repair was done to the manufactures guidelines and was done by a factory trained crew. The fix for this problem is a start date signed by both parties on the contract and communication by the contractor and homeowner. I am extremely upset by this post and do apologize for any anxiety that was caused in this case. James Mascari Owner Carolina Home Exteriors."
all debris. A few nicks on the painted window sills, but otherwise
nicely done. Workers are polite and pleasant. They also went up on my
roof to check on some broken shingles and did their best to repair them
while they were there. Very helpful folks. I definitely would recommend
them.
I want to update this review that I posted earlier. This is my second experience with this company. Each time the owner made promises that he failed to keep. The first time he was to refund me some money for something his crew did that they should not have. This most recent time, they never came back to do some minor roof repairs that could potentially cause my rood to leak. Also, one of the new windows does not operate properly.
But the owner has not answered my emails and I have been waiting for several months for the roof service.
My experience has been that once the company has their money for the main job, they are no longer interested in keeping their promises.
"(member name removed), I think we need the whole story here. The refund that was given was because my company installed new gutters on the rear of the home after I repaired the fascia board that was rotten along with the rear wall. When installing the new gutters we found the home needed two downspouts instead of one that was priced.my company installed two downspouts that was needed to ensure that the water was flowing away from the home instead of one downspout that could have caused further problems latter on.I refunded her the money with no problem and absorbed the extra cost.My window installers fixed some minor roof issues that she had and did not even know about at no charge! My recomendation to Mary was to get a qualified roofer to fix the bad roof job that she had. If she has a window problem I will fix it right away. My phone number is 828-281-4663 I have not had a call about this problem Jim."
The Energy Star windows themselves are very good quality.
I would highly recommend Carolina Home Exteriors!
The workers were very prompt, neat, and the job was completed as scheduled.
That was my first experience with Jim and Carolina Home Exteriors. Four years later he and his company have become my "go to" for ALL things windows and have done a great job on a few roofing and exterior painting jobs as well.
Also, tenants typically do not call in to compliment contractors, but on large jobs that Carolina Home is involved with I get several per job. They are always so happy that he communicates when the work will be performed and the quality/professionalism that his workers exhibit....particularly in cleaning up after themselves.
Jim and Carolina Home Exteriors have been an asset to my business and I recommend him to anyone that ever asks for my opinion on window installers, painters, or roofers.
Carolina Home Exteriors offered me the best quality shingles for the best price.
I drove by several jobs completed by Jim, the owner of Carolina Home Exteriors, and found the work looked beautiful.
Thanks to the weather cooperating, and Jim's crew arriving on time each morning, the roof job was completed as scheduled in 3 days.
Each day the area around my house was cleaned perfectly, so I never worried about stray nails in the driveway or my gardens.
I was very impressed by the professional and honest way of doing business. Jim Mascari is a native of Asheville, who has lived and done business here his entire life. I believe in the "Buy LOCAL, Support LOCAL business here in Asheville"
The worst part of the experience was in regard to the storm windows. I signed the contract in mid-May, and Jim said the windows would arrive and be installed by early June. When I inquired in mid-June, he said the factory had a large order that had to be fulfilled before mine. I checked back in mid-July, and he told me that the factory had messed up the finish and had to re-do it. I followed up again in early August, and Jim said the windows had still not arrived. I asked for the factory's phone number and order number, and he said he would provide it. When I spoke to Jim a few days later, he said the factory had messed up the windows again and that he no longer wanted to use that factory because "something wasn't right" and the plant seemed to be "having issues." He offered to refund my deposit or order the windows from another manufacturer. His story sounded bogus and I demanded the factory's phone number. He told me he used a "direct line" to the plant that wasn't a public phone number. I persisted, and he said he would try to find a number and call me back. He called back two days later and confessed that the story had been a lie. He claims that he hired an inept office manager last spring, who never ordered my windows and then mistakenly provided Jim with updates about another customer's storm windows as though they were mine. Once Jim figured it out, he didn't want to admit it so he lied. Jim said he fired the office manager, and he offered to order my windows himself but I declined and requested my deposit back. Getting my deposit back took 3 weeks: Jim said "your check is in the mail", and 2 weeks later I still didn't have it. I followed up, and he claimed it must have been "lost in the mail", and once again I had to become semi-threatening. Jim responds to threats, and he brought my check by the next day.
Now that I have my money back, Hendersonville Aluminum is going to install the same storm windows for $800 less than Jim, hence the "C" I gave Jim on price.
Jim's references were genuinely positive, and he seems very knowledgeable about his work. (I believe the chimney flashing work was sound, though it's hard to say since it's on the roof.) But Jim lacks the office management and job management skills to run a business, and he lacks integrity. I do not recommend him.
