Asheville Gastroenterology

Picture a Detroit assembly plant and that is what this place is! Especially their money hungry docs who push colonoscopy's like it is candy! Worse is the treatment regime for Hepatitis with Harvoni. These folks are so inept, dishonest, and unwilling to do anything but push Harvoni, all while claiming no side effects, nor do they help with any side effects. DO NOT BE DECEIVED by these negligent lying medical staff! They most certainly do not discuss or even acknowledge the cancers, respiratory and heart problems, deaths, and other serious diseases many succumb to after completing the Harvoni treatment. GO to Mission Infectious Diseases or Sylva for medical care! You will encounter caring, honest and empathetic staff...as opposed to the the less than mediocre treatment at this factory! People are very nice, but they are the only show in town and they know. The facility has all the personality of a slaughterhouse. Unfortunately, they have also bought the Hendersonville provider. Anyone providing the same services with a more patient centered facility would do very well as many of us are upset with the treatment provided.

I was appalled at my experience here. 1. Took forever for someone to call and make the appointment. 2. They set up a patient portal for communication between staff there and the patient - I sent a message through the patient portal with question about my preparation - never got an answer. 3. Doctor was running 45 mins late. I understand this happens but why can't they phone the patient ahead of time and advise them to come 30 mins later - not fair to ask my driver to give up a further chunk of her time. Certainly if the patient showed up 45 mins late it would be quite unacceptable. 4. doctor appeared as uninterested in me as was possible. The meet and greet before the procedure seemed to be a nuisance to him. Once in the procedure room, he began the proceedings before the sedative had even been administered. He was brusque and totally lacking in empathy. this is an unpleasant and embarrassing medical procedure - bedside manner goes a long way. 5. in the recovery room, I found myself coming in and out of the sedation for a while. I was left propped up with a soda and a straw in my mouth - no one else in room - and when I woke up properly, I discovered I had dribbled soda all down my front and was soaking wet. Glad I didnt just choke. 6. waiting room - where drivers are asked to stay for the duration had no coffee machine or other simple niceties to make the waiting more pleasant. They couldn't afford a Keurig? 7. overall this is a factory - get the bodies in and out with as little human interaction as possible. I will be trying to find another gastroenterologist for the next visit.

I am very satisfied with the care I receive on an ongoing basis. 

My family doctor referred me to Asheville Gastro on Dec 15, 2015 for a routine screening colonoscopy.  When i had heard nothing from that practice by a month later, I asked my family doc to refer me again.  Two weeks after I was referred for the 2nd time, I received a voice mail from Avl Gastro to call back to schedule an appt.  I called back that afternoon but heard nothing for another 2 weeks.  Then, another voice mail was left, asking me to call back; again, I called back that day and heard nothing.  Today, weeks later, they left yet another message to call back.  I don't know if they're the only "game in town" in Asheville but, just this week, I scheduled (easily, I might add) an appt with a provider in a nearby town and would never consider going to Asheville Gastro.  I've seen similar reviews and should have heeded those before I got myself into this runaround.  Being a "busy practice" is not a reason, it's an excuse.

Procedure performed by Dr. Matthew Wood of the practice. Would highly recommend him as a choice for this service. Prep before procedure moved very rapidly and no wait time to speak of after they took me back from the waiting area. Nurses were friendly, only issue I had was the venipuncture on top of my hand. A bit painful and afterwards a bruise covered the entire top of my hand for days. Doctor had a very professional bedside manner, test administered with no adverse side effects. I went in with the first group of the day and was out and back home by 10:30 a.m. They gave me complete test results that day before I left with pictures of the procedure.

Everyone was efficient and courteous in getting me prepped and explaining what I should expect from start to finish with the procedure. They made sure I was comfortable and that they had answered all of my questions. The doctor talked with me before the procedure. I had no lingering side effects after the anesthesia. I was not drowsy. The doctor came back to make sure I was fine and explained what he had done and all was negative. It was nice not to have to wait unnecessarily in the waiting room before the procedure. They were prompt in calling me.

I have been going to Dr Bond for over 20 years, getting a colonoscopy every 5 years and have always been pleased with his approach - direct and easy to talk to. He is very clear and lets you know the options. And maybe most important I think he knows his stuff - and I trust him.

Dr. Beavers is very personable.  She has been working in conjunction with my internist to solve the mystery of elevated liver enzymes.  They have concluded that medication is the culprit and worked to find a suitable alternative.

It was great! Before your procedure you come into the office for a information session and scheduling plus answer any question you may have or concerns. The worst part of the colonoscopy is the prep the night before and to be honest that wasn't that bad. Dr. Garrett came spoke with me before the procedure and spoke with my husband and myself after it was complete.

He has helped me more than any other gastroenterologist in the past.  He is very professional and spends a lot of time talking with me about my health.

This practice is really on the ball. The whole process is so streamlined and efficient. Highly recommend them.

This is a very well organized practice. From start to finish, everything went well. The staff is friendly, well trained and easy to communicate with. I was treated with respect and the nurses were very kind.
