The floors are gorgeous and I would recommend him.
Marvin and Scott were very professional and hard-working.
He also refinished all the floors, and you cannot tell the new flooring he installed from the 50 year old existing flooring.
Excellent work, great value, on time!
6 months after its completion as when it was brand new. * We are very pleased with the EcoTimber and its installation.* However, I hope to never have to do this again...EVER! Despite everything arriving on time and work being done on schedule, it took some 6 weeks to get our home back to normal.
Marvin and his assistant were fanatical about cleanup and dust containment at the end of each work day. Despite the tarps, the dust got everywhere. I would suggest bagging and further covering everything, everywhere. Again, he vacuumed all the time.
We moved all the furniture ourselves. Some of the wall entertainment units were 100's of pounds. We discovered the furniture could be easily slid / moved on LAYERS of flattened heavy cardboard boxes (i.e. ones flooring came in). Despite all the weight, the new bamboo was never scratched this way.
This was a nearly perfect job.
A few nails had were noticeable and had to be countersunk.
We attached 'Marvin approved' rounded white plastic feet to our kitchen chair. My husband and I are respectively 165 lbs and 130 lbs yet these protectors did not do their job. The flooring has a few superficial scratches under these chairs. DO =Use only the felt pads under any frequently moved furniture; they, annoyingly, have to be repositioned and often replaced.
There were two large pencil marks that were sealed to the floor under the Bona Kemi, unfortunately in very visible areas. When the floor is refinished, I will make sure they are removed.
The minor criticism above should not dissuade anyone from using Marvin Ashburn as their hardwood installer. The man is a true
flooring craftsman and artisan who takes much pride in his work. We had this work done during the winter months. He and his assistant did everything to keep in the house heat, not trek in the rain or lawn debris and, as stated above, did intense cleanup every work day.
We sincerely recommend Ashburn's Custom Floors for the installation of EcoTimber bamboo (one of the toughest jobs); we will readily use him again for repairs, refinish and another install.
"This home was built sometime in the 1920-1940 era in the woods near a lake in Hendersonville, N.C. using "Long Leaf Heart Pine" flooring. As best we could tell the floor had been sanded and finished one time and was worn from years of hard use. Our company bid to buff and recoat over the existing finish using 1 coat of "PARKS" procoat sealer and 2 coats of "FABULON" oil modified polyurethane. The project began on the 2nd floor with buffing using a worn 100 grit screen and then applying the sealer. A problem arose-- a chemical reaction took place the sealer wrinkled. I showed our client the problem and came to an agreement to sand the 2nd floor since we have no control over what cleaning products or finishes may have caused this problem. This in-tern created additional work and extended the completion scheudle. Upon comlpeting the 2nd floor and stairs our company started the !st floor buff and recoat using a different technique which included adding a special additive called "PRO COAT" directly to the "FABULON" poly The finish did not wrinkle only one more problem HIGH HUMIDITY caused the floor to go thru "haze and blush" .Buff the floor and recoat again Our schedule is dead in the winter and very busy spring summer fall And the extra work to correct these problems ment we must work long hours. Yes we worked on our client's residence until 10:30 pm I don't recall this being against her wishes....for which if this offended I'am sorry. Our company and I have always attempted to provide the best products and service in the industry I personally am a NWFA (Natioal Wood Flooring Assoc.) trained flooring inspector held to a higher standard than most in the industry. This project was completed several years ago... I am just now responding... the truth be told I don't type well and honestly dislike computers Should anyone desire additional details regarding this floor feel free to call 828-768-6326 ask for Marvin Ashburn"
