Animal Removal
Update: In Fall 2012, a man took out straw and leaves from the squirrel's nest and found no entrance into the attic, none at all. He put in a board and wire mesh so that squirrels could not build a nest there in the future. This took about 10 - 15 minutes to find a board.. He did not charge me anything.
In this situation, I think that I was a stupid, but trusting, old (65+++) woman. $400 is a large amount for me, and for nothing.

I paid them half the price. I then terminated the contract because the person was not certified. He said he could remove the squirrels, but that he could only put them in my yard. He mainly takes out the baby squirrels, but then he would put them in my backyard where my dogs or cats would eat them. Last fall I had somebody to be clear out that mess. They said there was no way that the squirrels had gotten in the attic. They said if I had squirrels in the attic I would hear them, which I never had and I told this to the first person. They put an extra board and some wire over the soffit so that squirrels couldn't get in there in the future. So I didn't have squirrels in the attic and I paid a lot of money. The original estimate was over $800, and I think I paid $475. I was very distressed about that. I called him and I then sort of gave up on it. He went up to the attic and said that the wires had not gone through. He also wouldn't give me my money back. He also wanted me to pay him $400, but I did not do that. It was a bad experience.

He said that there were squirrels in the attic, so I paid him half up front, but the squirrels didn't get in the attic. I lost the money I paid him because there were no squirrels to remove.

I understood from Nate at AUWC that the squirrel business was an emergency, as squirrels would chew up wires, leave fleas and diseases, and stink if walled in by roofers. I feel that he misrepresented himself to me. Nate charged me $825, which is a lot of money, and he wasn't licensed to do the job. I paid him ahead of time, being a trusting senior citizen, and then I told him not to do the job. He did a 15-minuted appraisal, didn't even look in the squirrel hole, and ignored my other concern about rats. He charged me $75 for the appraisal, which most companies would do for free. I paid $325 more to help him get started. I would like my $400 back. I thought that Nate would be fair after some time "pondering the situation," as he said. I've worked 25 years with young men in troubles such as prison, and generally find them eager to prove themselves in order to improve their lives.
