I cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff and service I received at Animal Hospital East – they are a credit to the veterinary community. In a family crisis that resulted in a need to fly with our anxious cat from NC to TX, our usual vet was unable/unwilling to assist with updating her vaccinations and providing pharmaceutical assistance for the plane ride. Luckily for my family, Animal Hospital East stepped up to the plate. They fit us into their schedule on the next day and were friendly, professional, knowledgeable and thorough while addressing our cat’s needs. Their kindness and obvious care for animals was very much appreciated. I highly recommend Dr. Kuhn and the staff as people who genuinely care about animals and people.

I took my Boarder Collie mix for unusual weakness in the rear legs. (2 yrs earlier another vet had suspected hip dysplasia.) The medical exam consisted of some touching of the hips. We left with a hefty bill and pain killers, but no diagnosis. It was just assumed, hip dysplasia was a correct diagnosis already. It was not. It took a third veterenarian at another clinic to find my dogs real problem.

They were very good. I have taken my dog there several times. They were a little more expensive than the other veterinarian. They were keeping long hours and they were available outside the regular hours.

Took my dog, Sparkey, in for wellness exam and to comply with postcard sent stating his need for shots. My main concerns were a slight limp developing and numerous lumps appearing on his body. Especially, I pointed out my concern for the large tumor on Sparkey's neck Prior to this visit Sparkey, a very athletic dog, had been active, running, catching a ball, etc. He seemed ok except for a slight limp. Dr. Kidney told us nothing unusual aappeared on the x-rays, and Sparkey's lumps were nothing more than fatty (sebaceous) tumors.
Within a few days after visiting the vet, Sparkey could no longer go up stairs, became listless, and would not eat. With great difficulty, encouragement, and our help we could get him ouside to eliminate. However, his bowels were like water, and he stumbled about to return and just lay on the foam I bought to make him comfortable. I believed he was in pain, but dogs rarely show their pain. Sparkey was unable to travel in his condition. I returned to Dr. Kidney asking for pain medication and help. He said he had no idea what could be causing this. He offered no help, ideas, nothing--just pain meds. He became annoyed with me when I said Sparkey wasn't like this when we brought him in for his checkup. He started to leave the exam room and didn't want to bother discussing the matter further. I insisted he not leave and told him something must have happened when we left him for his exam. If looks could kill, I'd be dead. I asked about the large lump and told him more lumps were appearing. He said they were merely sebaceous tumors all dogs get them. I asked to see the biopsy report. He said he only looked at the tissue under a microscope. (Note: Later in civil court Dr. Kidney said he had asked his partner (Kuhn) about previous removal of lumps from Sparkey and was told they were Sebaceous.) No pathologists reports were done.
It would take too many pages to write all that we went through due to the negligence of Animal Hospital East. Let me sum up by letting you know we spent over $4000 on expenses to help us find out what was happening to our Sparkey. The incompetence and neglect of Animal Hospital East was attrocious. Because they had no answer I spent days researcing into the top veterninary schools and articles, books, written by other vets. I learned much. Yearly vaccinations (distempoer, parvo virus, etc. to dogs is no longer acceptable. The antibodies of these (and other vaccinations) last for years in our pets bodies. When the live viruses and bacteria from vaccinations are put into our dogs on a yearly basis they weaken our pets immune systems big time. Health problems (some vets believe even cancer to our pets) result. If our practicing vets don't keep up with the latest scientific data and follow The American Animal Health Association, The American Veterinary Medical Association, and the 27 veterinary schools of North American stating yearly vaccinations are not needed and vets need not be vaccinating every year and compromise our family pets lives. Furthermore, all vaccinine manufacturers state on every vacinnation vial that vaccinations are never to be given to sick animals. It is the duty of vets to diagnose the correct health of our pets, before administrating any vaccines.

Eventually, we took Sparkey to the University of Tennessee Veterinary Hospital afater exhausing all possibilities here. I emphasized my concern for the large neck lump even though Dr. Kidney said it was nothing to worry about, just a fatty tumor. The very lump I had asked Dr. Kidney to investigate and which he ignored was the first thing they biopsied and found cancer. The doctor their said I was right to be concerned about it. I requested an autopsy be performed and Sparkey had cancer in every organ in his body. The slight limping Sparkey had was caused by a tumor there. There were tumors all over his body. I now realize that all the vaccinations given him (approx. 8 at his appointment at Animal Hosp. East) had weakened his immune system greatly. A month after his well visit to the bet, Sparkey was dead.

I write all this (there's so much more) to make pet lovers aware they must research and learn as much as possible about their pets health and conditions that appear. We have to be educated too and realize for the sake of our loved ones that ignorance is not bliss.
There are vets who allow our ignornance and their greed to be more important than the pets we bring to them and trust we impart to them.
Response from Animal Hospital East
"Although we are all saddened that Sparkey has succumbed to prostate cancer, this letter contains numerous inaccuracies and falsehoods. On both her initial suit and subsequent appeal the judges found her complaint without merit."

Made my appontments and was scheduled right away. Had to wait for the doctor, but when he arrived he gave his complete attention to Rocky. He spoke at great length about Rocky's health with recommendations of what was possible and what wasn't feasible.

I adopted a new puppy in April and it was a rescue puppy that had an issue with its eye. It’s perfect now after the eye surgery. I have had different pets over the years and I have always been with them. I have always been well pleased too. They seem to be very knowledgeable. They always try to work you in and so it’s really good.

The office staff were very helpful and friendly and they saw us right away. After they completed a brief medical history of our cat (we are new to the area) we were shown to an examination room. Our cat was weighed and had his temperature taken while we waited for the vet. The vet examined our cat and we discussed the various options for treatment. We decided upon antibiotics to see if that would reduce the inflammation and fever. Although an Xray was discussed as an option, we decided that it wasn't necessary at this time. We purchased Revolution brand flea and tick treatment and were given a free dosage. The antibiotics apparently worked, as our cat was fine after 10 days.

When I call for an appointment, they can normally fit me right in. The vet that I use does a good job explaining everything to me. I like him too because he handles my dog well by being very friendly and quick to examine her.
