I began having problems with my Carbon Monoxide detector. I had to call and was told, in the middle of the night, the beeping I was hearing was not their equipment. I insisted it was and she insisted it was not. I finally called back, got someone else and was walked thru disconnecting the monitor which was not easy for an old lady!!!! The next day I purchased the new battery and replaced it. In a few days it began beeping again, this time they were very rude, I was upset and they finally resolved the issue by placing my system in test mode for an hour while I again replaced the battery. In an hour the main alarm went off. I was told by ADT to wait outside on the front lawn. The fire department came...checked... all was ok and pointed out the unit should have been replace four months ago. I called ADT the next day to complain and cancel my service. I was told they wait for several false alarms then send someone out to check the unit. REALLY???? They told me they would cancel but I had to power down by getting up on a ladder in the garage and pulling the AC monitor. Never bothered to mention the battery for WI FI in the house. So of course the system kept going off.
I would never recommend ADT to anyone. I have since replaced my system with a local company and am, very happy.
DO NOT USE ADT!
I signed up with ADT via a special offer in the newspaper. I was told on the phone that my provider would be local. (I live in Weaverville and specifically wanted a service provider in Asheville.) This turned out not to be the case. I did not know it but my contract was actually with a subcontracting company located 70 miles away in Johnson City, Tennessee called Protect Your Home. In addition, I was misled about the cost of the system.
In addition, I have had consistent problems with the alarm system not arming when I leave my home. When I have called, it has taken three to four days for them to send a technician out from Johnson City even though the ADT website says they can ?in most locations? have someone at your house in 24 hours.
When I complained and told ADT that I want to switch to the local ADT, I was told that I had to wait until the end of my contract ? in three years!
Other than the fact that the technician was professional and a nice person, our experience with ADT has been horrible.
"This customer contracted service with an authorized dealer, Protect Your Home, also known as Defender Security. ADT does not own this authorized dealer, also the name of the dealer is listed on the contract that the customer signed. If the customer has any issues with the dealer, they would have to contact them directly at 1-800-689-9554 as ADT currently only provides the monitoring services for their home. Thank you."
schedules repair days out or requires very high emergency service fee $200+ so if you want security when it breaks you wait or it cost you a significant amount
