"[Member Name Removed], Thank you for your payment. We have completed the House Exam and Report part of our service. Next comes the discussion and guidance part. Taking the time to closely examine the parts and pieces of the house, and knowing which tools to use in which circumstance, marks us as experienced professionals. That is especially necessary in the matter of house performance forensics, which is an interpretive science. The tools can only reflect conditions that are generally in the Present. They are poor-to-fair at best at revealing what has played out in Past seasons and years. Tools also cannot anticipate how the house will perform in Future periods, key to preventing troubles before they have a chance to develop. We carry with us our Borescope, Moisture meter, Hygrometer, Infrared thermometer, Thermal imaging camera, RF meter, EMI meter, Air sample/Swab/Bulk sampling equipment for Mold, and bring out those that are needed at the house we are examining. They remain in our vehicle, always ready when needed. If house examination reveals a need for other methods of testing, then other equipment can be brought to the site at an appropriate time. Our exam revealed that the black stains on the surfaces of your interior walls are not from mold, rather, they are deposits from combustion: Gas appliances, candles, oils, and the like. Call us for guidance on clean-up and prevention measures to the staining, and on the other house conditions we defined on house exam day. Environment, house conditions, and health are always in a state of change. Over the coming weeks, seasons, and years, we remain available to guide you through answering today's and tomorrow's questions, and to help you define smart action steps as you address house performance, maintenance, expenditure, and healthiness matters."
"Thanks for your kind words. Call us with questions that come up. We remain available to you to guide you through your projects. Our end objective is to help you get to where you need to end up...achieving and maintaining healthier home conditions."
"Thank you. We know there are many obstacles in the way of achieving healthier home conditions and are here to help you see your way past them."
"We are happy to see a house that is not overwhelmed with issue. But, of course, we have to examine the house closely to confirm that issues are few and small. The discussions we had on the conditions of your house and the adjustments we suggested should help maintain acceptable conditions. Keep us posted on progress, setbacks, and new questions. House conditions are always in a state of change. With houses that are in good shape, the bigger issues may be in what happens down the road. We're still here to help."
"[Member Name Removed], I am here to help. As you and I examined many of the mold locations in the house together, we were easily able to confirm where the mold was, why it was in the spots it was in, how to clean up from that, and how to prevent it from reoccurring. It appeared that you were following me very well on the conversations we were having and jotting some notes on your handheld. We agreed that your handyman could easily handle most all of the projects we defined together. That included the outside projects you and I defined with the main house and with the back house. You and I did come up with a fairly long list together. I expected that your handyman would have a number of questions for me and that I'd be hearing from them soon with questions. I made my records of the day's visit that I'd refer to for the discussions your handyman and I were needing to have. I'll send that to you to compare with notes that you have. The second half of my service is to guide you through the completion of your projects. I am always ready to help you resolve the issues you need help with. I give everyone I visit my personal phone number and remind everyone to call me with questions as often as you need. Lots of folks call me over many seasons as they complete one project and ask me to review and guide them through their next steps. I watch my phone and email throughout the day, into the evening, through the weekend, on holidays, and whenever I go out of town. Mrs Bayless isn't always happy that I respond to requests from my clients whenever they call me. But, they need me when they need me. First and foremost, I'm here to help. Call me always with any concern."
Overall, my husband and I were very impressed with Mr. Bayless. He spent several hours at our place and we felt he gave the whole house a thorough inspection. We were prepared to make some very pricey upgrades to our home to try to solve our problem; I'm glad we brought in an expert to redirect us to more effective (and less expensive) solutions. We will absolutely be in touch with him again as we continue to make improvements to our home!
"[Member Name Removed], Thank you for allowing me the time I needed at your house: First, to understand your concerns that you had, and second, to let me explore your house for why it wasn't working as it should. The answers are there for us to be found. One just needs to know how to solve these home healthiness mysteries. I'd like to apologize to my college professors for not "Ace"-ing each and every class as I began to explore the environmental field. As you can see, once you discover your passion, it's easy then to get straight "A"s on your report card. Thanks, [Member Name Removed], for taking the time grade me on my work."
Rick showed me how to seal the HVAC in the basement (which I did myself). He gave the name of a company to service my unit (which I used). He showed me how to seal off the floor registers inside the house (which I did myself). He showed me what needed to be done in the attic. There was a leak in the roof which he found. I hired someone to come fix it. He showed me what needed to be done to air seal the attic. The insulation was adequate. I have hired a contractor (checked out on Angie's List) to come and take care of the attic.
Rick said to call him anytime. A month after his visit, I called him yesterday. The one outstanding issue I have with the house is some odors. I told him the steps I had taken and he gave me some suggestions on further things to try and people to contact. I plan on following up with that.
"[Member Name Removed], Yes, it does take hours to examine and discuss the many parts of a house. 80% of what needs doing can be do-it- yourself projects. I'm here to guide you through getting them done. When you need help, I'm here to connect you with able folks and to answer questions they may have. My objective is to help get lots of homeowners on to making the progress they need to improve health, home, and environment."
"Thank you for hanging in there with me as we scoured the house together to identify, interpret, and confirm its performance status. Health, Maintenance, Efficiency, Comfort, Safety...these are all impacted by the many parts and systems of the house. I'll break all this down into understandable, manageable projects for you."
"When I take the Community College class students with me to their first house field examination together, I can see both the light bulbs of understanding begin to glow on some aspects of the house... and I can see the cloud of overwhelm that sets in later into the field trip. It's a lot for them to absorb all at once. At subsequent trips I take them through the items to learn about a few at a time through the semester. Feel free to call me anytime to discus other elements of the house in more detail. We'll focus on more critical needs first then work our way through other helpful measures. I don't mind at all to revisit with you to take a closer look at some things. I'm here to help."
"Dr. [Member Name Removed], Thank you for your kind words. Keep me posted of questions, new observations, progress, and setbacks. I am here next to guide you and those who will be helping you reduce stressors within the house so that it better supports your health and the health of family as well. Thanks for calling on me to assist. Rick Bayless."
"Mr [Member name removed], This is Rick Bayless, of A Healthier Home. I remember two year's back that you asked to help you find some issues at your home that might explain some of the healthiness symptoms that were being experienced inside the house. Together you and I explored the rainwater control system, the rooms inside, the small basement, and the HVAC system. Then we crawled through the several chambers of the crawl space. It was there we found high humidity levels, dusts, significant mold colonization on the flooring overhead, and signs of former flooding. The crawl space was a primary source of respiratory irritants that certainly could adversely affect the healthiness of occupants in the house. Together we defined some do-able projects that would improve the crawl conditions and should translate into healthier conditions above. You asked if I could connect you with a handyman who could do some or all of the work for you. I gave you his name and number and I called the handyman and gave him your contact information. In conversation some time later I recall that you and this individual did not get together to proceed with the projects. I know that plans are always being changed as we all do our best to keep up with life's demands. I invite all of my clients to call me anytime to update me on progress, setbacks, and new questions. Every week I touch bases with several among the thousands of clients I've helped in the past and continue to give them guidance on making theirs a healthier home. Its been many seasons since you and I have talked about your place and how things are going. Call me at 828-243-5192. Let's review the status of the projects we defined back in 2013 and how the house has been performing since."
