"Thank you so much for the great feedback [Member Name Removed] and the A rating!! Just let us know if there is anything else we can ever do for you or anyone you know when it comes to moving!"
I was told upon their arrival that the timer started when they left the Company, so travel and discussion was part of the hourly fee, in excess of the advertised price. I was quoted for a higher price that morning than advertised, on a 'guesstimate' by the driver, even though I had boxed and stacked everything.
Although I had been told to not bother emptying drawers, my furniture was not wrapped in blankets and secured until it was on the truck while I was in the apartment with the 2 other movers. Felt a bit uncomfortable. Also felt the wrapping was to protect furniture during the drive to my new house, rather than protecting it for my benefit.
Well... what I was told and what actually happened were worlds apart!! I believe Noel and Dakota were acting in good faith. I am placing wrong doing in the hands of United Van Lines. Since my house was mostly delivered to 3 storage units and I have not unpacked, I don't yet know to what extent, if any, additional damages were incurred. I spoke with a Customer Service Representative at Union, Bob Cassidy, who listened to my observations and then stated "We'll investigate". That's the last I have heard from them. There was never an offer to discount my costs.
Here's the low down:
WHEN LOADING
Did not protect hardwood floors with paper. I was told they would. Consequently, they tracked mud throughout the house on beautiful hard wood floors.
They did not wrap or pad/shrink wrap furniture as Noel said they would, with the exception of my sofa and two mattresses and one box spring.
They put an antique floor lamp with non removable white shade on the truck without shrink wrapping the shade, as noel said they would.
I asked them to wrap and pad my furniture twice, told them I was told they would and still they did not. They explained that they can?t get a good grip if the furniture is wrapped and padded.
This resulted in two deep scratches/scrapes made in the head and footboard of my solid maple bed.
They were careless in the handling of the boxes-turned boxes and packed boxes on their side. Disregarded labels on boxes that read ?Do not stack?/ ?fragile?., this side up, etc. (There were probably 6 boxes in total that were labeled as such.) They literally tossed boxes to get them stacked on top of other boxes that they couldn?t reach.
Smoked cigarettes at my doorstep. (Left butts in driveway). Noel said they would not.
One mover described in detail his ETOH addiction
Asked to follow me to bank to get cash for 75.00 tip for each man, because they didn't have bank accounts
AT DELIVERY
One mover dropped cushion from unwrapped upholstered chair onto dirty, wet floor of truck and didn?t check to see if
needed tobe cleaned. Placed this chair unwrapped in a dusty storage unit.
Dragged unpadded book shelf along gravel. KICKED book shelf out of the way while it was still on the truck
Placed unwrapped, upholstered footstool face down on top of soiled plastic tote that had been in dirty crawl space.
Positioned latex mattress in the storage unit in such a way that it crumpled on itself and then got caught on storage unit door and tore when I opened door.
Repeatedly attempted to stack items on top of same two boxes of glass that were labeled ?Do Not Stack?. I finally had to remove some of the boxes from the area, telling the guys I would take the boxes with me. When I told them I was going to rent an additional storage bin so they could follow my directions, they told me not to worry, they knew what they were doing.
When taking an unwrapped table top off the truck, one of the guys asked me if I wanted it wrapped (this is only
time throughout entire move that I was asked). I agreed. Then later, I realized he might have been trying to disguise
damage. Now the tabletop is packed in the back of a tightly packed storage unit, so I can?t inspect.
When placing the unpadded and damaged head and foot board into the storage unit, I asked that all wooden parts of the bed be padded before stored as we had just identified the damage to the head and footboard. David was bewildered by my request and wrapped two of six pieces (with my pads) with an astonished facial expression. When I asked him to wrap the remaining pieces, he sighed a few times, expressing his resistance, but did so eventually, This same man, required frequent redirection from the second man, named Willie.
No one gave me my screws from the bed (for reassembly) and they were not attached to the bed. This combined with everything else that happened on load day and delivery, leaves me feeling infuriated!
Once again, the guys, same driver different guys, were smoking cigarettes with smoke blowing in our faces
Two plastic wheels broke off two plastic totes. No big deal except for the time it's going to take to shop for replacements as well as time it will take to shop for screws, bolts, allen wrench for bed. When I took a photo of totes, they flippantly said it was no big deal because they?re easy to replace. They are easy to replace this is true, but again the carelessness in their dismissal was unsettling
At least two other wooden pieces had small dents/scratches (a rocker and a bed side table).
They dragged our piano across concrete, so that the front leg bowed as if it could snap off. My friend and daughter witnessed
this and both my friend and I had to tell them to stop dragging.
One of the men went into detail about his past drug addiction and all the missed opportunities he?s had because of it.
One positive is that all four men were very strong. Amazing!
"We are extremely sorry to hear the negative feedback on your move [Member Name Removed]. As a 10 time Customer Choice Award winner for United Van Lines, I do not take feedback like this lightly and will make sure to follow this through so that all parties have been addressed. I can tell you that Noel and Dakota are employees of our agency here in Asheville, however the driver and helpers that loaded your belongings came down from a different United agent up north. Unfortunately, the timing request of your move did not allow a driver from my Asheville agency to actually move your belongings. Since your review, I have reached out to their agency and have addressed your concerns with their General Manager and he has assured me that he will be meeting with these individuals in a timely manner and will be following back up with me on the feedback he receives. As you are aware, I have also followed up with you by email to receive some additional feedback to make sure this is addressed properly."
Union Transfer and Storage was punctual and professional. They packed and loaded us on a Monday and half of Tuesday, and then delivered the goods on Friday. Tim was driver and Chris was packer. They worked non-stop on Monday and Tuesday before leaving at 1PM. The planned unloading for Thursday was delayed until Friday because of a snow storm. Tim came by the new house on Thursday to survey the house and its location for the Friday unloading. Marty, Gregg, and DJ joined Tim for the unloading which went very quickly. All of our belongings were placed in their proper rooms and Marty set up the beds. To avoid tracking in any mud, Marty cut up cardboard boxes to lay on the snow covered grass out back. We appreciated their cheerfulness and can do attitude. One small formal glass was broken in the move, but the company reimbursed us for its replacement without any hassle.
We would recommend this company to anyone without reservation.
