When you go to T&P, you work directly with the mechanic the entire time. In my case, I worked with Thomas, who is the owner. They are all "Master Certified Mechanics" by a company called ASE. I was told the reason they don't work at dealerships is because the dealers all pretty much live up to their bad reputation of ripping people off and doing shotty work.
As far as the actual repair, I went out to the shop (near the new part of Hwy 540 and Hwy 64) and Thomas checked out the A/C. He told me he could have the parts the next day, and gave me the quote. I came back the next day, and Thomas began work on the A/C. I waited in his lobby (which is kinda like a cabin living room). I checked out all his memorabilia, and also met his little daughter while I waited.
After a reasonable amount of time (it was a big repair), Thomas came back in and said "Good as new". He informed me that he had done a bit of an inspection while he was working, and noticed my tires were going bald. He offered to order some new ones for me, but I declined at the time.He printed up my receipt and I paid on card. End of story.
I checked the price of tires on Tirerack and they had them for the same price. I still haven't bought the tires yet, but when I do, I'll head back out there to get it done.
