They did a great job, they serviced our system in the winter, and it was an old unit it just stop working a week ago and they came and tried to fixed everything, it turned out that we needed a new unit system since the existing one was too old to repair and fix; they have recommended a new unit to be installed, we really like the technician's, they were friendly and very knowledgeable.

This outfit take incompetence to a whole other level. They simply didn't turn up for my first scheduled A/C maintenance. They screwed up the scheduling of the 2nd visit, taking 30 minutes on hold to resolve. Finally a "supervisor" assures me we are scheduled Today I got a call cancelling my service, spouting some complete claptrap about "seniors without heat" taking priority (it is 81 degrees out today.) Avoid at all costs

Background: In August 2017, 72 Degrees installed an HVAC system to replace the failing upstairs AC unit located in the attic. Since our downstairs system carries most of the heating and cooling load on a regular basis, we wanted to install an upstairs system that met our specific needs. I talked to and received quotes from several companies. Eddie Blanchard from 72 Degrees provided the best explanation and cost estimate of an HVAC system that would provide a cost-appropriate, long-term solution. We paid $6980 for a 2.5 ton, 15 SEER, Ruud 80% Gas Furnace/AC system and obtained a 2-year financing deal (zero interest) thru Synchrony Financial (affiliated with Ruud). After observing them work, I felt that the two 72 Degree installers were perfectionists. My original system was not installed properly when the house was built (a too common story….). 72 Degrees installed properly sized and configured supply and return plenums, and repositioned all of the supply lines to correct obvious problems. I was very impressed by the attention to detail and final outcome. Scheduling on/off timing through the new Honeywell thermostat, we only run the upstairs system on a limited basis and in combination with our downstairs unit. To date, the system has worked well, fully cooling and heating the upstairs when needed. Today, Justin visited and completed the routine (warranty oriented) maintenance check on the furnace in about 20 minutes. We spent an additional 15 minutes talking about the system. Cost: $48. In support of this visit, 72 Degrees reliably emailed and texted me on the appointment. Justin called just before arriving ahead of schedule. Overall, a very efficient and satisfactory visit.

We had work done in 2013 to have our single unit “zoned” to provide separate controls for upstairs and downstairs. 72 Degrees did a good job at a good price. I was less impressed when it came time to replace our HVAC and we went with another company. My problem is 72 Degrees will not stop calling me about “scheduled” service checkups or maintenance tune-ups or whatever they call it, as it changes from call to call. No matter if I am polite or less than polite, I can’t get them to stop calling me. It appears there is nothing I can do, except to warn others that if you hire 72 Degrees, you may be called repeatedly during dinner for services you don’t want long after you’ve stopped doing business with them.

All went as planned and was very professional. The service technician was very friendly and knowledgeable on both mechanical and electrical matters. When I ordered a replacement unit the technician came back to my house to take pictures and double check the details so the installation would go smoothly. I am very please with my choice of 72Degrees for this job.

A nightmare. We were given a timeline of 3 days. We left and when we returned, ductwork not complete. The two technicians did a horrible job. Broke our water lines twice. We had to live in our backyard in our RV. They finally claimed ductwork job complete on the 9th day. We were so exasperated told them we changed our mind on encapsulation. When they left, no air coming from both bathroom vents, no air flowing through second air return, they left it taped over, and one vent in kitchen forgotten, no ductwork connected, could see the ground under house when you removed the vent cover. We called another HVAC company, thinking they could just fix what was forgotten by 72 Degrees. Could not be done. Everything had to be ripped out and new ductwork installed correctly. We also had to replace the air handler under the house, which had been installed 4 years earlier by 72 Degrees. The air handler was installed incorrectly, it was tilted in such a way that the condensation did not drain but pooled, which is why we began to see mold under the house. How it passed Harnett County inspection, we will never know. The President of 72 Degrees, who is located in Browns Summit, NC, reviewed our case and apologized. He returned the $1900 down payment we made to their company. The workers and supervisor working on our job were coming from the Apex, NC location. We do not recommend them.

Never again. Used discounted groupon of $39. Tech. came and told me freon was low. He knew I had a contract with another company. Did not ask me if I wanted it fixed. Did not tell me the freon was $110 a lb. Came back in house said fixed and used 3 lbs of freon for $354. Stated I had a leak in the coil under my house. Well left and later that night I noticed the system would not work. Had my warranty company come out (Progressive) after 3 days of no heat or cool. He checked out with appropriate equipment and found the leak. Today he is replacing the coil under warranty. He told me the reason not working at all over weekend was that 72degrees tech put too much freon in system. He had a bad read that day. Anyway system will lock up after 3 attempts of changing system. He took out about 1 lb. Here is the kicker; I could have gotten freon free(did not know). Their freon cost $60 a lb. Guess 72degrees needed the extra money. I called the company manager in Apex and told him about things. He did not say anything except they do not warranty freon fills. Al I wanted them to do was come back and correct their mistake. Would not do without additional charges. Did not offer me a refund or an I'm sorry. 72degrees never again.

We had a new system installed about 18 months ago after receiving numerous quotes. What a mistake, it has been nothing but trouble. Technicians have been numberous times only to be told that we needed a maintenance. That was done and nothing changed. Then the a/c wasn’t cooling and the tech said it wasn’t draining properly but he fixed, nothing changed. Then in the winter it ran constantly and we were told we needed new thermostat (the old one was only 12 months old) which was replaced and nothing changed. Now we turn our a/c on it isn’t cooling again. Tech says he can’t come of course but he thinks it isn’t draining, same problem once again. So now we have to pay for a service call for a problem that has been ongoing since day 1. Also, we referred a friend and they purchased a new unit and we never got our referral as promised even after 8 calls to the office. They are very frustrating and I would never recommend this company to anyone.

Technician stated that he was unable to start the compressor. Said it was burnt out. He could not say for certain what caused the problem, mentioning three things that might have caused the problem, giving me price quotes on replacing those things (totaling around $800). We then began talking about replacing the system (which is 11 years old) and a representative of the company came the following day to provide specific quotes on replacement. With the intent of getting a second quote, I called another company. Their technician looked at the system and within 10 minutes found the problem. Two wires connected by a connector cap were not passing electricity. When the cap was removed, it was found that one of the wires had no copper showing. In a typical failure scenario, where the wire broke, a small piece would have fallen from the cap. It did not. This technician corrected the connection and, because of it's simplicity, refused to accept payment for his service. I spoke to the owner of 72 Degrees. He agreed to return the money I paid for service call. He defended the integrity of his repairman and suggested their failure to repair the system may have been due to an intermittent electrical/mechanical problem.
Response from 72 Degrees Heating & Air Conditioning
"I am very sorry for your trouble. There are companies in this industry that jump at an opportunity to bad mouth another company for their own gain. Below you will find the exact terminology from your invoice. It does not state that you compressor is burnt out and it gives you many options. "Your downstairs system is 12 years old Troubleshot the system and found weak , high resistance compressor, slow drain, weak battery cap, repairs not recommended due to age cost and value, recommend free budget quote on replacement""

I used 72 Degrees for our past winter maintenance and that went very smoothly so I scheduled the to look at our A/C during the summer for a tune up. This visit was a completely different experience and I will not recommend them any longer. Their schedule is busy so it took around 5 weeks for them to find a time to visit. Busy could be good, means others may recognize their capabilities. In that interim period, one of our A/C systems began performing poorly. The window of time on the day of the appointment was between 8 to 10 and Greg didn't show up until 11:20. He evaluated both units and suggested $1500 worth of additional equipment added to our upper-level system which seems to have worked fine for ten years and a complete replacement of our lower level system for $9000 due to broken components, rust, and mold. Our units are manufactured by Trane which is not a brand 72 Degrees installs, so I got a second opinion from a different service provider recommended by Trane and they were able to repair the unit for $650, and did not note rust or mold. This service upsets me for many reasons including 1) there was no mention of rust, mold, and likely need to replace a system when they provided winter maintenance, 2) they triple charged for the service call which I had to call for a reversal of two of the charges, 3) I don't think this was an authentic recommendation as I received a positive opinion for a simpler repair from a different service provider for something rather simple that Greg did not even tell me, and 4) Greg told me 72 Degrees was perhaps the only remaining Duke Energy prequalified contractor in the area for HVAC installs/audits which is untrue after reviewing the list of 100 I could find. Lesson learned - maybe only call 72 Degrees if you have a Reem or Carrier brand of HVAC system.

They arrived late and sent only one crew, even though two had been scheduled. They could not finish all the work that day and neglected to schedule a return date. The system they did install can't cool below 76 degrees, and when I called to complain was told I was using it wrong. The installation crew arrived today, told me it just needed Freon, which did not fix it. I'm still waiting for a repair on the first unit. The second unit is now being installed.

We rent our home, so do not have extensive knowledge of the house/unit and service that has been provided before. Upon initial exam, the tech became a bit hostile and asked who we'd had out to look at the unit before him. I explained that we were tenants and were only aware of the prior repair which had been done while we lived in the home. He calmed down and documented some concerns he had with prior work that he felt had been done incorrectly, and we did have him complete the necessary work to the system. We currently need work done on our AC system, and when I called them today, was told they are unable to come out until the end of June (6 weeks from now). Feels like we've been unofficially fired from their business. I would expected a more professional approach, and courteous behavior. I would not recommend, nor will I contact them again.

My husband and I traded our HVAC, upstairs and downstairs, two units, its been a few years ago. They came in, and it was one disaster after the another. I documented everything. The worst part is, after they left, I had to go back in and change several things. Including the copper wiring in the house. It didn't the copper wiring didn't accommodated it. That was extra. They wanted to work on it for all the copper, and I said no, I'm keeping the copper. I gave it to a guy down on his luck, and had a little girl, and he could recycle it, and get a little cash for it. The worst thing is, when one of their person comes out to check it, it was worse, than it was when they first came. I dreaded maintenance checks. What had happen is one of their men came out, and he,shortly after it was installed. He did something, and walked downstairs with the unit, whatever its call. He is carrying the thing, and I asked what he was doing. He said it needed changing out. I just purchased that. He said it needed changing out. He took the one that they just installed, and set it on my step. I took a picture of it, while he went to his truck for the new one. I though this was really shady. Come to find out, he installed an older one, called dirty socks syndrome. My whole house smelled terrible. In the whole system.Up and downstairs. I had to turn around and get someone to check it. Most people don't know about it, and said it was the dirty socks syndrome. That man got fired, because he told me the truth. He also went to the owner, which was Blanchard. Told Blanchard what had happened. I spoke with Blanchard, and one of his men. They came to try to work it out, but then I had to installed uv lights on both units. Those lights are six hundred dollars each. When the things come on, because of the dirty socks syndrome, the bacteria gets in my house, and the light zaps it. I had to come up with six hundred times two, because there is two units, one upstairs, and one downstairs, every three years. Twelve hundred dollars for my home. They tried to be very nice there. They knew they had messed up, and they fired the man who took it out. By that time, it was so much mess going on, and I was frustrated. The man came and said everything was going to be ok. I called him back, because I was smelling the smell. They installed it backwards. The light hadn't even been working. When I called him back, he said I have been the pain in his a.., since day one. I do not say that word. That is what that man said to me. I was appalled. I wrote up a letter, that he isn't allowed on my property ever. This went on for about two to three years. It was hell on earth. The way that they shut me down is, when you called to complain is, you don't even have an maintenance agreement. I said I was told every time that they came, I was under the maintenance agreement. They were twisting my behind. They just said that because they knew that I could sue them. They were so nice to me, trying to work it out, bla bla bla. When I called him, he said I had a hundred thousand dollar job, and you call me out of the office, to complain about your little house. I would have never ever used him. Never would have called him. The guy who owns it, Eddie Blanchard and the guy who worked for  him, I can't remember, and he the one who came in my house, and he cussed me out. As a christian, I called him, and I was ready to report it, and said are you ready to apologize to me,for the way you treated me as your customer. He said he has no idea what you are talking about. I said ok. I was trying to give him a chance.

They were terrible the whole time. Even though they were trying to be nice to me. I could see through it, just as plain as day. I knew what their purpose was. As a christian. I was going to be nice back. I never was ugly to them.  I give you business, I expect you to deliver it. They did keep coming back. I was persistent. They didn't like this woman, saying get back here, get your mess together. This is 72 degrees, how can I make you smile. You can make me smile by doing the right thing. They would come out when I called, but I dreaded them coming out. I will give you credit where credit is due. They did show up when they said they would. I said to send a different person, since I had so much trouble. That person would say Joe wouldn't do it right, Sam didn't do it right, Charles didn't do it right. Every time they sent a different person, they would fuss about the previous person's work. They weren't competent. I said for here forth, I wanted one person to come, to communicate. There were so many coming and going. I asked for continuity. One guy came, and another came, and I called, asked if Charles coming. He said, no Aaron coming. I asked for Charles. I told Aaron, that I'm sorry, to please send Charles. There was a couple black people, couple white people, and Aaron was the black man, and they going to thing I was racist, cause I asked for Charles. This was my eight years with them. There is so much racism. If I lived in Africa right now, and operated in Nairobi, and Kenya. If I give my money to these children, for clean water. Its nothing to do with racism, just wanted continuity.

"I am very sorry for all of the confusion. We work with thousands of customers and we had become complacent. We have completely revamped our office and service department so that this kind of thing will not happen any more. We are working hard to be the best in the industry when it comes to customer service. Please give us a chance to make this right. You will not be disappointed."
