I had approximately 25 reels of 8mm film that my Mother had taken in the mid-50s. I had never seen any of the film and was not aware if it was still viewable. Looking at reviews, I saw that Home Video Studio had a number of positive reviews for this service. I took the film to them in April, received an estimate of $300, and was told the process would take about 6 weeks. For this process, they send the 8mm film to a centralized place with special equipment. After 6 weeks I had not heard from them, and I called to check on the status. They checked, returned my call, and informed me it would be another week. Within the week, they called me to let me know my film and DVDs were back. They DVDs are amazing with very clear pictures. I could not imagine a better result.

Review of Home Video Studio, Apex, NC
Over about 40 years, we had accumulated many 8 mm black/white and color movies of family activities and events. A number of them had faded significantly. Wanting to preserve and share those memories and avoid further deterioration of the images, we contacted Sharon and Peter Galluzzo?s Home Video Studio from the listing on Angie?s list.
As indicated in the name, their business is in their home, where they have high tech equipment for digitizing and recording home movies. Sharon was very friendly and professional in showing me the facilities and discussing a plan to create several DVDs of the films for sharing with family. I submitted 20-30 8 mm films, numbered in chronological order. She reassured me that the processing would be completed and the films and DVDs available for pickup at the end of the month, by
Christmas eve, despite the high volume of requests that might be expected for that time of year.
However, we were disappointed that by early Christmas eve we still did not have the disks or films. Just as we were about to resign ourselves to not having them available to show family visiting at that time, Peter delivered them to us personally. We enjoyed viewing and reviewing old times. The quality was great. So, the bottom line is that the job was done on time and the result was excellent. The cost was not cheap, but the result was worth the money, and the discount that Sharon gave us initially was appreciated.
I did have some concern, however, about how events unfolded. My main concern is that the processing was not done in-house but was shipped off to another site and then shipped back. Had there been some snafu in addressing or shipping, it is possible that our precious films might have been damaged or lost. It would not have been the first time that had happened to us or friends through other companies. Fortunately, it did not. Or, the items might not have been delivered on time. They actually came to the home office late that day, the reason they were delivered personally, for which we were grateful. However, the timing of delivery (without notification) was fortuitous, as we were about to go off caroling when the doorbell rang. Had we done so, what would have been the result? Fortunately, we did not have to deal with that problem.

"Hello [Member Name Removed] and thank you for your review. We actually completed your project in 2011 and at that time we were running the franchise business from our home. We have since moved to a store front location in downtown Apex! Since we are a franchise company,we do centralize our Film Transfer service. This is the only service we do not handle locally. It is more cost effective to centralize our film transfer and the state of the art equipment is quite expensive for each location to have one and trained staff as well. Any company these days that is doing film locally is most likely using outdated technology to preserve your family films. So just look into that before handing over your films. We were personally as concerned as you that we wanted your film in your hands on Christmas Eve - after all, we promised. And though it was much later than we hoped or anticipated, we did get them to you. Since the time of your Christmas Eve delivery in 2011, we have seen vast improvement in our film transfers department processes, we now do almost twice the amount of film at Christmas time and have it completed before Christmas Eve. Although, we always tell our clients that film can arrive as late as Christmas Eve but has not happened since 2011. We hope your family is enjoying the memories we preserved for a lifetime and now even offer Archival Platinum DVDs. Please contact us directly if you have any questions.
