If you want furniture quality cabinetry, this is the way to go! We visited showrooms, talked with local cabinet shops till we could have dropped. We went to home centers, mid-range shops, all the way through the high end companies. Many companies did not even bother to return our calls. It was beyond disappointing. Since we built a classic Colonial style home, we wanted beaded full inset face frame cherry cabinets to go with our style. Only a few cabinet makers were even willing to attempt what we were looking for and at exorbitant prices. Most of the work we looked at was sub-par even on simply designed cabinets. One "high end" showroom had glass front doors with crooked muntins (cross pieces) which was shocking to us. We knew of an excellent high quality cabinet/furniture shop in the resort town of Whitefish, Montana and contacted our friend there. He is interested in expanding to the Salt Lake area and was interested in building our cabinets. Since he is out of the area, we did do our own precise measurements and sent them to him. This part could be a challenge, but my husband has construction experience. Rich was always available to take our calls, knew the right questions to ask us, and made excellent suggestions. His design was classic with beautiful artistic elements. His design expertise helped us fully utilize the available space. The workmanship is incredible. He used only the best cherry, removing any blemishes and using only the prime pieces. Sets of doors are bookmatched using matching boards. Every detail is impeccably carried out. He built the panels for our built-in dishwasher and refrigerator. We also had him build a custom matching desk and cabinetry for our computer and home office. Drawers are dovetail maple boxes. Lazy susans and pull out shelves are maple. They use the finest hardware and installed soft close units on everything. Our glass front cabinets are true divided light panels; they craft a beautiful crown molding and also a molding under the cabinets so you can install under-cabinet lighting. His bid was the same as other high end shops here, but we got way more for our money since the local shops often had extra charges not included...plus they couldn't build the style we wanted. Home center bids were about $18k and of course that is apples to oranges. (random pieces of cherry with blemishes included--no guarantees on that at all, standard size cabinets they have to fit into your space, lower quality hardware and drawers, etc.) Not only is Rich a craftsman, but he is also a perfectionist. He took extra care in all aspects of installation, making sure everything fit and worked perfectly. We are delighted we went with Closson Customs.
