Steer clear unless you enjoy being talked down to, belittled, and yelled at by the customer 'service' guy (Alex), all while creating further problems for you.
I bought a very expensive workstation for architectural design purposes about a year ago from First Call and had them set up the system. I was given a small gift certificate for First Call and decided to use it for set up in my home. I could tell that this was bothersome at the time, but I was also a paying customer. Having been in the Mac world for years prior to this station, I had trusted that the disgruntled technician sent out to me had set it up accordingly. He said he had installed a security system and I mistakenly trusted that he had. He was setting things up, but didn't even attempt to clue me in on the process of what he was doing. We were speaking different languages and he didn't care that I had questions and wanted answers. When I called a week later for advice, he'd quit and no one could help to answer my questions.
Then, last week, surprise! Total meltdown of the computer. I take it in and the technician finds all sorts of attacks on it. Being without my computer takes a huge toll on my efficiency. I brought the tower in on Wednesday and couldn't get it back until the following Monday. When explaining the issues, the technician told me that a Microsoft Security System had been put on the computer but never activated. Great. They gave me a handout of how to minimize the threat of attacks, including emphasizing that I should never download programs from the internet.
After reuniting with my computer, and under project deadlines, I come to find that they had removed all basic Microsoft programs essential to the functioning of the computer: Word, Excel, etc, and did not reinstall anything. I couldn't access any of my files, edit them, or even write a note. When I called, Alex answered the phone and proceeded to tell me that I could bring the tower back in and they would eventually get to it. When I asked if someone could come to my office and reinstall what needed to be reinstalled, he told me that under no circumstances could he 'spare one of his guys for my problem', saying, 'he needs them here'. When I asked if there was anything I could do, he suggested I download free x, y, and z programs off of the internet (?!). When I pointed out to him the serious inconvenience this has caused because they have allowed a computer to go out of their service door that essentially doesn't function, he proceeded to belittle me, talk down to me, and then escalated into yelling at me.
I hung up the phone and will not be back after receiving the horrible level of service that I experienced. I don't trust that they will perform the tasks that they claim they have done / will do, and I honestly don't trust that they would treat my computer or me well at all.
I understand there is a lot to know in IT service and repair but First Call did absolutely nothing to make me feel like they were delivering honest service to my small business. The man on the phone not only disrespected me, but was also rolling his eyes at the customer he was on the phone with when I had gone in person to pick up my system (while I was waiting for over 20 minutes after being told that my technician was 'still in the restroom'. Yuck.).
After hiring another company to investigate what First Call had left me with, they determined after 7 billable hours, that the only way to fix it was to WIPE THE OPERATING SYSTEM and reload everything from scratch! This left me nervous and without my computer for another week, all thanks to First Call.
Disgraceful, Dishonest, and Disrespectful should be First Call's slogan. They should be your Last Call.
First Call not only did a great job on both websites, but they have been a wealth of knowledge for me. If I have any questions they are very accessible and knowledgeable. My websites consistently rank in the top one or two in the search results and are second only to referrals from past customers for new business. I can't recommend them enough!
